Semi Final
1st Leg

@ Gladiators Club
Oxford A 2 Witney A 3 :o

From what I remember being told, I think,
Steven Sheard 13,000 beat Jon Bamsey
Dave Tooke beat Terry Cook
Stuart Florey lost to Bill Keenan
Kevin Godfrey lost to Tony Willis
Mark Trafford lost to Roger Bowen

Return Leg Sunday 27th September @ Lamb & Flag

The winners will play Wallingford B or Reading A in the Final.

Perhaps someone can let us know more scores & facts from both Semi Finals.

Well.... Witney A did manage to beat Oxford A 6-4 overall after a dour struggle at the Lamb and Flag last night. The table was definitely NOT at it's best....

Jon Bamsey went off with 15K, only to lose them on a peg and Kevin Godfrey eventually managed 2000 to take the leg. Then Tony Willis scraped 11k together to take the second for Witney against Steven Sheard, but then Witney dropped another point when Mark Trafford took the third against Roger Bowen. Terry Cook had the break in the fourth against Alan Oliver and a really scratchy game ensued with both players ending on 2K and Terry finishing just in front!
With the score at 5-4 to Witney but Oxford up on aggregate, it all came down to who won the last game. Stuart Florey broke for Oxford but only managed about a thousand and Bill Keenan played very steadily through to game to end a comfortable winner and take the tie for Witney.

We will have to play better than this if we are to beat Wallingford B in the final.... :-/

cheers
Tony

Well done Tony on your teams win and unlucky Oxford.

All the best for the final against last years winners Wallingford B.

When was the last time you made the final of the Inter Area?

Keith.

Inter Area Cup
Winners 1963-2008
1991 Wycombe A-???????
1997 Oxford A-???????
1998 Wycombe A-???????

Anyone know who played in these teams then??

I have been trying to find out the 1997 Oxford side, without much success. ???
Maybe Pete E could find out for us. ::)

1992 Wycombe A-J Burrows, E Hill, E Jordan, A Stevens, R Hussey, T Gray
This Wycombe team won it the year after, so I should think most of these players were part of the 91 team.

2000 Wycombe A-E Jordan, T Isard, D Isard, D Clark, J Burrows
Also I should think these players would have been part of the 98 winning side, with the possible inclusion of Kent Murray.
Maybe Ernie could find out for us. ::)

Found it at last....... :D

The 1997 winning Oxford A side was K Godfrey, R Godfrey, B Jones, T Coleman, P Spencer, A Lacey & R McDonnell.

I was in my self imposed exile from the Oxford league from 96/99, so playing in the Wallingford League only.

In 98 and 2000, Alan Donovan was probably in the team. I would think Ernie would be able to say for definate.

Looks to me like Wallingford have dominated recent years with all the wins bar 1 in the 21st century - surely someone can break this incredible run (Go on the witney and surrounding villages boys)

Yes Alan Donovan the 1989 AEBBA Singles Champion, whatever happened to him?

I remember talking to him near where I live in Oxford soon after he won this title and was a bit shocked when he told me.

He packed up playing about 6-7 years ago. I still see him and have the occasional game of golf with him.
