Hi guys, I thought that we should have a review of the rankings for 2008. For those that don't know, the current rankings officially endorsed by the AEBBA at this years AGM. It seemed a sensible way forward, and now the rankings that appear on the AEBBA website are the offiicial AEBBA rankings. I am opening it out to the players (if they wish to) to take a look at the current ranking system and if there is anything that they feel needs to be looked at or altered on the current system then add a proposal to this thread or by email to me by the 9th Jan 2009. What will then happen is that the 5 on the committee (myself, Mal Spier, Dave May, Mark Trafford and Clive Thompson) will discuss the proposals made and make a final decision before the start of the first tournament of 2009. We very much want this to be a player's ranking system so that anyone who has an interest and wants to have input can do so. Some links that may be useful the current mens rankings list www.aebba.org/a_rankings.shtmlthe current ladies rankings list www.aebba.org/a_rankingsL.shtmlthe changes made last year barbilliards.proboards30.com/index.cgi?board=Tournaments&action=display&thread=224

Hi Nigel, Just as an appetiser for anyone interested, this is one suggestion I tabled a while back: I have just one proposal for next time they are reviewed (at the end of 2008), which stems from looking at the full transcript of Berks (which I couldn't attend) and thinking 'he had a good tournament etc etc' and then checking the points at the end to find the yield was nil ! So my recommendation is that, as we award 1.0 RP for each match won in an Open 'main competition', there should also be 0.2 RPs for every match won in the Plate. Even if four Plate games were won, it would still add up to less than the 1.0 for winning a round of the main. And anyone having a good run in the Plate would at least get something for their efforts instead of diddly squat to show for it ! You did make a point in your acknowledgement on the Ranking Changes thread that points gained in Plates should not be allowed to exceed those gained in the Main. I concur with you on that, but we are only talking fractions of a point here, and even those are valued by aspiring players trying to gain a rung on the ladder. ;)

Tommos proposal has been discussed and we have arrived at the following ranking points change effective from the Oxon Open 2009
There will be an award of 0.1 per match won in the plate, rising to 0.2 for a 2 leg match (usually semis onwards in plates) The winner of the plate will get a bonus to 2.0 and 1.0 for runners up (they will make up the drop in points in win bonusses). This I think redistributes the points through the plate players who at least won a match. This will affect the other plates as follows Bournemouth pairs/ alternative rules - 0.7 for winner, 0.35 for runner up, 0.05 for matches won Jersey - 4 for winner, 2 for runner up, 0.7 for semis, 0.1 for 1 leg matches won and 0.2 for 2 leg matches won.
This is only a minor change and will only result in a small ammount of additional points being awarded, but it perhaps gives a better chance of some lesser players being able to make it on to the list.
