I don't like Proboards and never have done. They are full of adverts unless you pay and are not as feature rich either.
There are plenty of free forums out there that we could move to, but Proboards prevent you from taking the existing forum setup and threads with you.
I've looked at it since taking over from Glenn, but feel there is too much here to lose.

Further to this it occurred to me that I should let the board know the Proboards charges.
If members wanted to make the board ad free, Proboards charge £4 (7$) a month fo up to 50k hits.
The bad news is that unused hits do not roll over from one month to the next.
Any feelings in the future??? are there twelve (or more) volunteers to pay £4 once a year and make the board ad-free????
There are other additional services, such as file storage, but most appear to be using tinypics

I do not get the Google ads as I use Mozilla Firefox with the NoScripts addon where you can choose what you see, downside is that it sometimes stops something happening that you want so then you have to change NoScripts. It is a good extra security system and easy to use AND recommended by KP (no less ;D)
Choose 'Forbid GoogleSyndication.Com' to stop the adds 8-)
Incidentally you will just get a blank band where the adds would appear after the first post.

Thanks Sparky. As I said it was ok when they were just at the top but now they are on every thread it is a pain. :'( Ian. I agree with Ian, it's only started happening like this recently. Hardly noticed 'em before but they're annoyingly intrusive now.

I've found an ad setting trawling through the admin stuff.
Though ads cannot be removed without paying, they should now only appear at the top of the board.

Funny, but the latest buzzword to be picked on by Google ads is "Reaper" following Kevin's Jersey exploits. Had a quick look and found these amusing cartoons: www.offthemark.com/grim/grim03.htm

Google ads are back and with a vengeance. Now they're annoyingly interactive ones that are slowing this computer down to about 10% efficiency.
No problem if I switch to the laptop, on which (see Sparky's note above) I have mozilla Firefox.

I keep getting an advert with pictures of oriental ladies. Are they trying to tell me something and, if so, how do they know?

Please explain what you are seeing that has changed, also what browser and version you are using.
If possible. when you have the extra adverts displayed get me a screen dump.
Open 'Paint' start / programs / accessories Return to Proboards window with adverts press printscreen (Records the screen) Return to 'Paint' and paste the image Save the file Email it to me.
I use IE7 with popups suppressed and am not experiencing a problem.

Having done some research in the support forums, there are some comments there, regarding the banner adverts going interactive.
I assume this is what you are talking about.
They cannot be removed without paying to go adfree.
I have found some Java scripting that I have applied to the board admin to move the adverts up above the board banner to try and get them offscreen and make them less obtrusive.
I'll also try and see if I can pad Glenn's banner to shove them out of the way some more.
Is this better please?

Much better now, Sav.
There's one up there at the moment called MLB Commissioner, flashing away saying "Let us run your League" but it's less obtrusive being above the British Bar Billiards banner.
But the Japanese animee one (which Pete saw as well) was particularly annoying, as the guy had a glint in his eye and was taunting you to have a go if you were hard enough. And was linked to a nasty cookie "Ad yield manager" which was slowing things down considerably, and still came back no matter how many times I zapped it.
Performance improved today, thankfully.

I haven't seen any such ads (using Mozilla Firefox with NoScripts blocking GoogleSyndication.com) and am tempted to allow it in just to see what it's all about ;D ;D ;D
