An increase in teams always good news. 8-) Three new venues to go on the map, thus:
Red House, Stanningfield, Bury St Edmunds IP29 4RR Horse & Groom, 35 East Street, Sudbury CO10 2TU Bay Horse, 61 Melford Road, Sudbury CO10 1JS
Bar billiards really taking off well in East Anglia !

well I can tell you that the table at the Horse and Groom in Sudbury has gone, sadly it only lasted about 4 weeks, just long enough for them to play their first league and then the landlords changed and within a couple of days the table was gone and the team forced to pull out of the league. The pool table did a little better, that lasted a few weeks before it was shown the door.
But I do notice that the Five Bells in Great Cornard, 63 Bures Road Great Cornard, Suffolk CO10 0HU is missing from the map, they are playing in the Sudbury League.
I am not sure about a table at the Sudbury Snooker Club, I was there the Friday before Christmas and I didn't notice a table, but there again it was nearly midnight when I got there and it was all I could do to find the bar ::)

Thanks, do I take it from that that the Five Bells we have listed, in Colne Engaine, is the 'wrong' one, or are there two Five Bells with tables ? Sad news about the Horse and Groom table, happens a lot when new people take over. Strange that there was already a demand for it with a team in the League, though.

I have certainly never heard of the 5 bells in Colne Engaine playing in the sudbury league and as I have never been to the pub I dont know if they have a table, I will pop out there when I can to take a look. I know all about the Horse and Groom table as I was the one kept on at the landlord to get a table in. We scraped together 5 players and played just match, that was at home and generated a lot of interest from others in the pub who watched and I am sure by the next week we would of had at least 15 players. Interestingly we won one game by the rule people on here seem to find strange, the away player, who was too far infront to be caught sunk the last ball straight into the 10 hole without first hitting a cushion thus losing his entire score, but hey hoo they won the match anyway

Hi Dave, Not wishing to send you on a wild goose chase, I thought I'd better investigate how I (wrongly) made the assumption that the Five Bells pub in the Sudbury league was the one at Colne Engaine. I was going on the rather tenuous reference found in this link: www.essexdaysout.com/the-five-bells-beer-festival-2010/By contrast, the correct Five Bells, the Great Cornard one, has its own website but doesn't mention the bar billiards as one of its facilities. A quick Google search under 'Five Bells bar billiards' is misleading to as it displays some text relating to a completely different pub where there is 'sadly no longer bar billiards'. So I'm pretty much convinced that we just have to swap the two on the map, and that there could well just be a pool table to greet you on any visit to Colne Engaine, nice as the pub sounds...

Tommo and Margo stopped off at the Bay Horse, Sudbury as a half-way point on our journey to Norwich.
Very nice pub, and we received a friendly welcome. Had a tasty BLT sandwich and a game of 4-Pin on the Narrow table.
Duck to water came to mind as Margo thrashed me with a score of 2000. Met Alasdair, one of the favourites to do well in the 1st ever Open.
Congratulations to the Bay Horse A who I believe have wrapped up the league championship with a couple of weeks to spare.

Just got to thinking, with all the available venues over the border in Essex, and two Essex teams (Thatchers Arms and the Wheatsheaf) playing in Sudbury, would there ever be a prospect of forming an Essex League ? :-/

Hi tommo, there is now a new table installed in The North Street Tavern Sudbury, I have spoken with the landlord and he's going to see how it goes and if good interest will consider joining our league for 2014/15 season, friendlies will be arranged after the new year.

Ye Olde Bell And Steelyard Woodbridge sounds a good place, and their website shows a Supreme table: www.yeoldebellandsteelyard.co.uk/Also, interestingly this comment: "We would happily entertain a bar billiards team, so if you fancy a challenge, please get in touch."

Hi tommo
I did some work at that pub a few months ago table was in poor Nick cloth almost faded to white with numerous rips. It was positioned in a large lobby at the back of the pub which led into the garden, I got the feeling it was there for childrens entertainment rather than for serious play, but things may have changed since

Hello there. I am a new member, very passionate about bar billiards and willing to do what I can to help you keep the UK bar billiards map up to date.
I live in Ipswich and I can report that much to my sadness I do not know of a pub with a table in the town. Neither the Brewery Tap nor Woolpack has a table and these should be removed from the Bar Billiards UK map. If anyone thinks differently re. Ipswich - that there may be a table - then let me know and I will investigate.
I travel widely in the UK and will report back where I can on tables I find, or which are no longer in situ.
Best, Craig

Not heard about that but will ask around.
I haven't been to the pub for at least ten years, although its probably only about 5 miles from my house, its on horrible twisty back road between Bures and Ballingdon so it means a special trip as it isn't a road you would drive on normally. It was always a food orientated place with a great beer garden set on the river banks, marvelous in the summer and dead in the winter.
Will report back

Ok, so looks like I may just have a drive out there over the weekend as that really doesn't look like the pub as I remember many years ago, it was posh then, not cheap wooden flooring etc
I'll have to take an extra peg and maybe a set of rules

There is a good possibility that the :- CROSS KEYS THE STREET REDGRAVE DISS SUFFOLK IP22 1RW Has acquired a table recently , my reason being that they purchased a set of Mushrooms from me , 1 red , 1 black , 2 white . Maybe needs adding to map ?? Confirmed, a picture of the table is shown on Facebook: en-gb.facebook.com/crosskeysredgrave/Seems to be of modern construction, but can't see a slot mechanism so not a Supreme.* Either has an electronic mechanism round the side - or could even be on permanent freeplay ! *in fact, it's a narrow table - ct

I know Jeremy was having talks with globe sometime back about putting a table in, I think he even offered it FOC on the basis the pub kept all the takings but on the condition they looked after the table and paid for it to be recovered once a year, as far as I am aware it never happened though so possibly if they have a table it could well be a supreme table.
Not sure if I've mentioned this before but the table at the bell hotel in Clare has now gone, we recently done a refurb there and the large conservatory at the back of the pub which was mainly used by youngsters was gutted and changed to a restaurant meaning the bar billiards table was made homeless along with the pool table and darts board
