I have received details from The Ommaroo Hotel for the World Champ stay and am a little startled by it.
Single room £34 for first 3 nights, £27 for extra night/s - (was £27/? last year) Double room £29 for first 3 nights, £22 for extra night/s, per person) - (was £22/16 last year)
which represents a £27 extra cost for each of my party of 7 (4 nights). AND this averages 32% increase from last year. AND they want a 36% deposit (£280). AND they want the balance (£503) 8 weeks before arrival (2 weeks last year) and judging by last year will send a Cancellation policy that further sours the taste.
I would be interested to know if the JBBL were aware of this price hike and whether the Hotel actually want us to go elsewhere which is the message I got from it.

I reckon that the DeNormandie will be rubbing their hands together at that news. As they say, watch this space.

Evening All,
I too being the Secretary of the league were startled to see the price hikes, considering we had a meeting with the new manager only 4-6 weeks ago.
I am aware that Graeme received a very similar letter earlier this week and his response was also the same.
I shall be giving them a call in the next couple of days to find out why the prices have changed again and why they are requiring everything so far in advance of the tournament.
I shall keep you posted on the situation and as mentioned earlier in this post - the De Normandie, after letting the Committee down numerous times in the past could well be laughing!

The increase in price could be partly to do with the impending GST (goods and services tax) which comes into effect next week. This will apply to all Hotels in Jersey.
The headilne in this evenings Jersey Evening Post states that beer in some establishments could soon cost £3 per pint !!
More reasons to enter the Guernsey Open this weekend - still a few places left !

I expected the GST to have some effect but £6 or 7 per person/per night increases cannot possibly be down to GST (32% :'()

Harry the Spider for Chief Minister.
Ban GST. Free the Jersey Royals. No fishing limits for Jersey boats. Indepedence for The Minquies. No Airport landing charges for UFO's.

I phoned the Ommaroo on Sunday to book rooms and they told me they are not holding the World Champs there this year. Is this correct or did the person I talking to not have a clue ??
They really did not seem to know anything about it.

Hi Richard,
The World Championships is at the Ommaroo this year, for the last time. Please phone up again, unfortunately the prices in the thread are correct (shockingly) and ask to speak to Beverley (General Manager) and she will assist.
If you have no luck please send me an E-mail: slebeuvant@yahoo.co.uk and I shall sort it as they are severely testing our patience this year.

I reckon that the DeNormandie will be rubbing their hands together at that news. As they say, watch this space. The De Normandie is now a no-goer: I had heard at the weekend that it had lost its stay of execution and is to be demolished after all. But it came as a shock to be told today that the De Normandie are not taking any November bookings as it will be shut by then. Shame, as they looked after us really well last year and the food was excellent. So I have now booked up with a hotel further down the road in Saint Clement, which is about 15 minutes' walk from the Ommaroo.

I've emailed the manager at the De Normandie as its news to me and we stay there every year.
I'll ring them later if no reply.

I'd better qualify my statement then, if this is causing some slight panic. My attempted booking was through Condor Ferries and I did ask the girl to double-check her information. This she did with her supervisor, and was told that although not closed yet, the hotel would be boarded up by November.
If anyone is after an alternative place to say, I think I have found an ideal choice of a 3-star hotel at 2-star prices: 5-course evening meal, swimming pool, good parking facilities, the lot ! 8-)

I have been waiting for a reply to my email to the De Normandie for about two weeks. The hotel we book will need to have easy disabled access. Any ideas?

Jungle Grapevine again!!
Straight from the horses mouth.
The De Normandie will be open for the Bar Billiards weekend, but closes it's doors for good the following Sunday.
My concern would be the enthusiasm of the staff pending the closure.

Exactly what Richard Wooton suggested when we were discussing it casually last Sunday. Sounds to me if they are scaling down on operations by not taking bookings from tour companies, but you would still be all right by booking direct. I for one though have already moved on. :)
