Good Morning,
Here is the latest update from the Bar Billiards World Championships.
Saturday morning saw the beginning of the Singles competition with 164 entrants, with Phil Collins of Oxford looking to retain his World Champion status, however like several past winners in failed to get through to round 2 being beaten by Michael Phillips of Jersey, 6000 to 3000. In a tremendous 90 minutes of action other big name casulties, former 2 time winner Terry Race losing to Jean Brackenridge, the UK leading lady, both players being from Brighton. 2010 Doubles winners Keith Sheard & Steven Sheard both bit the dust, Leon Beer, half of 2009 Pairs winners lost to former Junior winner Nick Wren and James Jeanne of Jersey crashing to Geoff Pitt of Berkshire.
In the Plate competition for first round losers it didn't get much better for some of them either, both Leon beer and Keith Sheard losing again, their weekends ending very prematurely.
On Saturday evening the conclusion of the Pairs competition took place and the results were not to Jersey likings but the UK throughly enjoyed themselves. Of the 8 pairs remaining, 5 were Jersey, however by the time the final arrived 2 UK pairings fought out two games of bar billiards, the scores not reflecting the true competitive nature of the final match:
Keith & Steven Sheard 18,410 versus Curt Driver & Mark Brewster 3,550
Sunday morning sees the resumption of the Main & Plate competition with some potential exciting clashes ahead, however judging on yesterdays results we are not guaranteed anything.
