Good Evening All,
Just finished with a meeting at The Merton Hotel, reviewing this years event and discussing the 2011 tournament. Therefore the official dates for the Tournament are:
Friday 4th, Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th 2011
There may be a few changes with regards to the weekend however further information will follow later on in the new year.
In January I shall be hearing from them again when they shall confirm room prices along with many other things. They have mentioned that there may be a slight increase on Room prices but at the moment, due to people consuming at the Bar, they shall try to hold off (Bearing in mind we have just had a G.S.T. rise of 2% placed on us from 2011).
Finally, book your flights as soon as possible and your rooms from when I next meet up with them and confirm prices.
As always, if anyone has any questions then please E-mail me as I only occasionally review the board. Look forward to seeing you all at next years event - number 31.
Many thanks Sean

Hi All,
Confirmed back by E-mail already to Bernie, however thought I better also let everyone else know.
With regards to Sunday evening, two suggestions have been placed forward:
1. An extension put in place 2. An extension put in place and the tournament structure adjusted slightly to allow for even more time.
More details to follow in January.
Many thanks all Sean

Following up on a comment someone made on the Guernsey Open thread, can someone please explain what the changes are to this years Championship. It is getting to the time to start looking to book flights/hotel etc. but would like to know if the format is going to change and then make a decision if to attend or not based on what the new format may be?
Thanks Mark

Hi All,
Apologies for the delay in responding, been extremely busy in sorting out various options. The tournament Directors have a meeting on Thursday to finalise the tournament timings before releasing the final draft.
Please check back before the end of the weekend for definite details on everything important.

I have run into a small problem....
AirSouthWest has been sold, the owners also own(ed) Plymouth Airport.
These owners are property developers. As I thought a while back.. the news appeared that they were closing Plymouth Airport in December.
OK I thought, November comes before December so I'll be OK this year... and there's always Newquay Airport.
Today I tried to book my flight, AirSouthWest list no flights from Plymouth after August :( so I tried Newquay, again nothing >:( so I phoned ASW (based in Crawley, cant get away from the damn place) to be told that the new owners haven't arranged their winter schedules yet (remember August is the latest showing, so September must be winter), they should be sorting it out late June or early July (its the 25th June NOW ffs) so I pressed her for a little more information to be told that they haven't decided IF they will fly to Jersey from Plymouth (this year) or Newquay.... EVER :'(
So now I wait, if they decide that Jersey is too far to fly ;) then I have 3 choices:
1. Fly from Exeter with Flybe and get ripped off (flights look good value but luggage... forget it and if I should want to take my cue... well how very dare I) 2. Drive 150 miles to Poole and catch a ferry 3. Drive 250 miles to Crawley and join up with the Sussex mob flying from Gatwick
I suppose there is a 4th option... and that is to give up and realise that the powers that be have decided that I shouldn't play competitive bar billiards anymore (no sarky comments please)

Harry and Jill have probably given the best option there, but if you did want to sail, Q, you can usually go via Weymouth (equidistant for you and me).

Thanks Harry & Jill, its certainly another option, however it does seem ludicrous that having had a choice of 2 local airports the possibilty now exists that neither of them will fly to the channel islands. Plymouth is definately closing in December (if not before).
Its annoying because I had been planning on coming over possibly on the Wednesday so I could actually see some of the island as opposed to a few of the pubs, a hotel and of course the Dicq shack ;D

Finally had an answer from Air Southwest, not to my emails or phone calls but from the news. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-14154909So thats it as far as Plymouth or Newquay are concerned unless one of the other Newquay airlines takes up the Jersey route, still looking at Exeter, Gatwick and the ferry from Weymouth (Bristol is a bit too far with no friends or family nearby) I cant believe that they've done this at this precise time, Plymouthand the South west are still hoping to get some trade from the Olympics... not likely to happen if everyone has to travel by road or rail

Tip for next year, book it early doors. I booked mine in February and got it for £50.49 It may be early doors, but entrants would be well advised to bring torches and candles with them :o The Channel Islands have experienced two massive power cuts in three days, thanks to the French grid packing up. No wonder everything the wife cooks tastes of garlic ::) ::) ::) www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-guernsey-15101829
