After a disastrous World Cup year and poor results in the Champions League it falls upon Guernsey to save the day for England ! Following the fantastic achievement of winning the FA National Systems Cup, they now are pulling on the red Jerseys of England in the finals of the Uefa Regions Cup which starts tomorrow in a very warm Croatia. There is a Bar Billiards connection. One of the star players from Guernsey is Glyn Dyer, son of Layabouts Paul (Diddy) Dyer. Unmistakable, as No 15 in the early clips and number 7 in the semi final and final. See report on how they got there on CTV Channel Report. A bit long, but good background music. www.channelonline.tv/channelonline_regionscup/home.aspWill keep you all updated. Come on England (I mean Guernsey).

Another round of matches played today. Good news Guernsey 3 Gwent County 0 The Welsh representatives proved they have a leeky defence by conceding another three goals. Guernsey's No. 7 Glyn Dyer scoring the second with a goal showing great individual skill. Turkey 0 Croatia 0 Therefore Turkey and Guernsey are joint top of the group with identical goal difference. Tuesdays clash between the two teams will be crucial with the winners going through to the last 16. Brief match report www.channelonline.tv/channelonline_sportnews/displayarticle.asp?id=490995

The dream is over for Guernsey.... Guernsey 0 Ankera 3
In a bad tempered and physical game, Guernsey lost out this time. they had goalie Tom Le Tissier sent off at the end of half time, so played the second half with just 10 men. Guernsey held out to the mid. way of second half before conceding. Turkey got two very late goals after Guernsey narrowly missed an equaliser.
Not sure who won on the card count with approx 8 yellow in total.
Still, it was a great experience against opposition that they would not normally face. Bring on The Murrati v Jersey May 2011 !

Is Le Tiss any relation to the best player I have ever seen grace a football pitch in 30 years of being an active supporter at all levels ?

I've witnessed some of the famous incidents including the so-called Beckham wonder-goal, but the game I rate the best was 17/03/1990 at Plough Lane: Wimbledon were 3-0 up against Southampton at half time and the game finished 3-3. We were destroyed by a Matt Le Tissier hat trick in the second half, all of them spectacular solo efforts.

English FA to lodge complaint about Turkish football team ::) ::) More stories are emerging re Guernsey's exit from the competition, following a defeat by the Turkish representatives. Three Guernsey team members were apparently bitten during the match, and at least one has the marks to prove it. :-/ :-/ :-/ Guernsey.s Glyn Dyer was on the end of a right hook during one of the incidents, and the Turkish No. 3 can clearly be seen committing the foul. Surprisingly, no Turkish players were sent off ??? ??? Undetered Guernsey have vowed to defend the trophy they won, which gained them entry into the competition this season, and are looking to qualify as England's Amateur representatives again next season. Glyn Dyer says a few words at the end of the clip and is Guernsey;s No. 7. They wore white for their final group match. Needless to say rump steak and turkey will be off the menu in several Guernsey households for some time to come ;D ;D ;D WARNING - the following clip contains images of a mild sexual nature and violence ;) www.channelonline.tv/channelonline_sportnews/DisplayArticle.asp?id=491075

Today sees the second most important Guernsey v Jersey football match, where the respective league champions St Martins (Guernsey) play St Pauls (Jersey) in the Upton trophy, to be played in Jersey. Glyn Dyer, son of Layabouts star Paul Dyer is facing a fitness battle ahead of today's clash, which will feature many of the Channel Islands top footballers, ahead of the "big one" - The Muratti, the second most important Inter-Insular clash of the year. (The most important being the Guernsey v Jersey Bar Billiards match) :o :o :o
