HI ALL BAR-BILLIARD PLAYERS THIS IS AN EARLY MESSAGE I KNOW BUT JUST TO LET YOU KNOW OF THE GOINGS ON OVER HERE IN ADVANCE. WE HAVE CHANGED VENUE FOR NEXT YEARS OPEN, THE NEW VENUE IS NOW AT THE WAYSIDE CHEER HOTEL, THIS HOTEL IS NOT TO FAR FROM LAST YEARS VENUE BUT I THINK OFFERS MORE FOR THE PLAYERS IN THE LOCATION IT IS. COSTINGS OF ACCOMMODATION, WE HAVE LOOKED INTO GETTING SOME DEALS, NOW THE WAYSIDE CHEER WORKS OUT AT £40 PER PERSON A NIGHT 2 PEOPLE SHARING. A HOTEL NOT FAR FROM THE VENUE CALLED HOTEL HOUGUE DU POMMIER IS £45 PER PERSON A NIGHT 2 PEOPLE SHARING. THIS HOTEL IS ON-LINE AT www.hotelhouguedupommier.comTHIS HOTEL IS A 5 MINUTE WALK AWAY. ANOTHER PLACE I HAVE LOOKED INTO IS SELF CATERING APARTMENTS, NOW I THINK THIS IS A REALLY GREAT OFFER BUT THERE IS A CATCH, EACH APARTMENT SLEEPS 6 PEOPLE, THERE IS ONE ROOM WITH A DOUBLE BED AND HAS EN-SUITE TOILET/BATHROOM, THE OTHER TWO ROOMS ARE TWIN BEDS BUT HAVE ONE BATHROOM BETWEEN THE TWO ROOMS SHARED IF THIS MAKES SENSE TO YOU. THEY HAVE THERE OWN APPLIANCE'S AND LOUNGE AREA WITH T.V. THESE ARE LOCATED A STONE THROW AWAY FROM THE VENUE, ITS JUST THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD. I`VE ASKED THE LADY AND SHE HAS GIVEN ME A PRICE OF £400 FOR 3 NIGHTS, SOUNDS A LOT BUT IF 6 SHARE IT WORKS OUT AT ABOUT £22 A NIGHT EACH, 4 SHARING IS STILL ONLY £33 A NIGHT EACH. IF ANYONE WANTS MORE INFORMATION ABOUT ANY OF THESE PLACES I HAVE LISTED OR ANY WHERE ELSE YOU MAY HAVE HEARD OF YOU CAN CONTACT ME ON 07781 111 812 OR E-MAIL ME AT ianchampion@hotmail.com AS I WAS SAYING BEFORE THE AREA IS GREAT IT HAS A LOVELY BEACH NEARBY, CHINESE RESTAURANT, CHIP SHOP AND BARS NEARBY. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ANY OF THESE PLACES SO I CAN RESERVE ROOMS OR APARTMENTS. MANY THANKS AND LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL AGAIN. IAN CHAMPION (CHAMPS).

Good to hear that there will be a Guernsey Open next year..... ;D
.... disappointing that the new hotel is more expensive than the Peninsular (only £37 per person per night this year) though, which has been an excellent venue for the last 2 years. 3 nights would therefore cost the 2 of us £240 before flights and spending money, which is considerably more than the Merton in Jersey for the World Championships this year (£192 for 3 nights) which has all of the leisure facilities available. :'(
According to their website, the £40 per person seems to be the standard rate per night for the Wayside Cheer..... so could a "deal" by done for us poor mainlanders coming over as they do seem to offer some special rates (3 nights for £99, 4 nights for £123 is on offer for Autumn / Winter) for bookings of 3 nights or more? :-/ ;)
Perhaps somebody could investigate and advise.....? ;)

See you in November??

It’s good to see that the Guernsey Open will be taking place again next year in a new venue together with new sponsors and trophies.
It would have been appreciated if the GBBA could have let Hamilton Trustees know that their involvement was not required for 2010, the funds had been earmarked for 2010 but will now be utilised on other projects. I will on behalf of the old sponsors inform the Peninsula that the premises are not required for next year.
It is good however to see that there is so much money available for Bar Billiards in Guernsey that old sponsors can be pushed aside without even a thank you.
It would also be appreciated if the GBBA could confirm that the trophies for the 2009 Open have been handed to the Open winner, finalist and Plate winner and that Steve has been refunded the £8 as agreed for having the Plate Trophy engraved, I know the Plate finalist has received his trophy as it was left on the doorstep.

As a venue, it is difficult to believe that the Peninsula could possibly be bettered. :o
Having said that, Margo and I will be supporting the event wherever it ends up being held. We have really enjoyed the first two. 8-)
Sounds like some extra work will be involved in the staging of the Guernsey Open for 2010, and hope you can manage to sort it all out. :-/

I too applaud the continuation of The Guernsey Open. However would question the current Guernsey Bar Billiards Associations lack of contacts, respect and goodwill towards the previous sponsors Hamilton Trustees. The first two Guernsey Opens attracted a huge number of posetive comments regarding the prize money on offer, organisation and not least the venue. These comments were also voiced by the Jersey contingent, which is rare - that is - praise of anything to do with Guernsey by Jerseymen ! The timing of the recent announcement, so soon after the last Open, seems very provocative and a kick in the teeth towards the former President and respresentative of the major sponsers. If it it not broke - does it need fixing ? I call upon the current President Tom Oliver to find some common ground to stop this political In-Fighting, which does not reflect well in a small league like we have in Guernsey. To attract the quality of UK and Jersey players we have had over in the past two years, the venue and facilities have to be spot on. Did the current committee look at the Pennisula at all for next years venue, or make their mind up on a change just to spite someone ? Offers of six per room and a bag of chips from the Cobo chippy does not match what was on offer the previous two years.

Having been to both of the Guernsey Opens held so far, I would like to offer my thanks to Bob Chapple and Hamilton Trustees for the superb organisation and support that they have given to the event, which has made it such a success to date. 8-) ;D
I am sure that everybody who has been there for the last 2 opens would agree that the Peninsula was a fantastic venue providing good service and facilities at a price that proved to be excellent value for money..... 8-)
Colleen & I were certainly both looking forward to returning there next year and can only hope that the new venue proves to be a similar success for those who will run the event in the future, which hopefully (subject to costs & finances permitting) we will be able to attend. :-/
So, again my thanks to BC for all his hard work in getting the event up and running...... it is certainly appreciated...... and to all of the friends we have made over in Guernsey who always make us feel so welcome. 8-) 8-)
We hope to see you all again soon. ;)

Many thanks for your comments Stormin and BBW.
I'm sure that the new venue will be fine and the committee will do a first class job in running the event.
I hope and trust that the numbers of entries will be as good if not higher than the past two years, we were geared up to handle 96 entries this year so lets see if next year can get close to that.

I too would like to add comment as to how enjoyable the first two Guernsey Opens were, and to assure Bob that his efforts and the generosity of the Sponsors were very much appreciated this side of the Pond. ;)

We have had a wonderful time at the Penninsula... warm, friendly and accommodate smoking guests.
Yes we are in the minority, but the new suggested Hotel is no smoking...not sure re the venue
I personally love to go away, and have a smoking room so that I can wind down and play..
We both enjoyed a great game of Pitch and Putt, walking to the Sea ... and the delightful ducklings... the food was great especially the buffet...
Personally I am sad this has moved, we had great service and accommodation...
I respect the organisers have to make their decisions and ensure Best Value.
It though does seem very different to the Penninsula in Quality from what I have viewed on the internet...
Regards Chris

Flybe currently have a sale on for flights to Guernsey up until June 2010, which works out to be a saving of £40 against the prices we paid earlier this year. ;D
Worth a look for anybody who is planning to go next May..... ;)

Ian Champion has informed me that entry forms for the 2010 Guernsey Open may be available in time The World championship in Jersey in November. If not, I am sure they will be taking early entries. Further information will be available from Tom Oliver or Matt Ogier who will also be there. I am 100% certain that the G.B.B.A. will put on a first class event, and it is basically the same organizer's as the previous two years. I fully support all the efforts that are already, at this early stage, going into making this tournament as successful as the previous two, and I am sure a strong challenge will be forthcoming from England and Jersey. Can Guernsey produce a home winner next year ? Looking forward to the banter and usual 'from on the spot' debate ;D

I just wish that the spot was much bigger - about the same size as a normal D would be a good start! :P ;D ;D

Hi Chelle
The Wayside will be different but we feel it will not be a let down. With a bit more of a local pub feel it should be a bit more fun down there. With line dancing every thursday and Karoke a regular feature there could be a few laughs to be had.
You might even get Champ singing again which i hear is a little entertaining.

I'm not altogether sure you'd be able to handle 'Chelle, Lewis. ;D ;D ;D You might even get Champ singing again which i hear is a little entertaining. We were entertained. We had the MJ twirls, moonwalking, the crotch grab and something even the great MJ himself never attempted - a forward roll somersault. :o Also a protest from Champs that the track was going on a bit longer than anticipated. Hilarious. ;D ;D ;D

Is there any chance someone could let us know what the prices are for the single traveller, the original post says it is £40 per person based on 2 people sharing, but doesnt say how much for a single room?

When I spoke to Champs over in Jersey, he told me that he was hoping to have a meeting with the hotel fairly soon to see if they could offer a "special deal" for the players who were staying there for the Open..... so, hopefully, there will be some news on that soon. 8-)
