Any Update on Hotel Prices ? Are we going to get an answer on this before i give up ? ::) If i don't know what the hotel prices are soon, then the flight costs are going to go up massively and wont be able to afford to go anyway!

You could always go by boat. Works out a lot cheaper as you can sail on the Saturday at that time of year, which means one night less to pay for. Only takes 2 hours to Guernsey, and you can take your car for free if you book direct with Condor Ferries, and stock up with duty frees on the return journey. ;)

Hi all
The room rate are to stay the same as per the original post. The deal we got was that they would remain at 2009 prices and not be increased in line with 2010 rates.
The problem we are having arranging cheaper deals are they get booked up anyway so they are not keen to reduce there prices just for us.
If you are arriving by boat and need lifts, the Guernsey players are usually pretty keen to help out and will offer lifts to the hotel.
Cheers Oge

What is going on??
I have just spoken to Donna at the Wayside Hotel and she has told me that there are only 3 or 4 rooms left available, she said as only one person had booked regarding Bar Billiards the hotel has now taken a block booking of 34 people from the Ramblers!!
The rooms that are not booked yet are double rooms at £35 per person with a £10 supplement for one person only. The one person that has booked a room already will have a £10 deduction on the £80 they have paid.
The lady also said that she thought that most players had gone back to the Peninsula Hotel to stay.
I find it very strange that a tournament will be held in a hotel that has not given players enough time to book up, someone should have explained to the hotel that there was a very good chance that it would be filled by the bar billiard contingent, especially as there is an International at the hotel on the Sat, as well.

Unfortunately, Milko is right..... I have just spoken to Donna at the Wayside Cheer who told me that all of the rooms are now booked, but not by people coming over for the Open! >:( :'(
As Keith says, most players would not book the hotel 6 months in advance..... and we only got confirmation of the prices 1 week ago..... however Donna told me that as they hadn't received any bookings from Bar Billiards players, they had to fill the rooms or they could have ended up empty for that period. ::)
This will mean that either people will have to stay in one hotel and make their way to and from the Wayside each day or...... hopefully..... a new venue will have to be found? ??? ???
Bring back the Peninsula..... 8-) ;D ;D ;D

Bring back the Peninsula..... 8-) ;D ;D ;D Have to agree with you there Warrior ;) Had a fantastic time there this year & am giving some serious thought about going next year but everything looks a bit chaotic at the moment. :( My view is:- If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I am one of the people that have booked a room at the Wayside Cheer as the competition is going to be played there, so I would be pretty cheesed off if the venue was changed.

Having aqlready booked our flights, we don't want to be in the position where we can't book a hotel in case the venue changes to another part of the island..... ::)

We too have flights booked already.
Going back to the Penninsula given the circumstances and at least we know we can have a smoking room with service, food and room all very good.
Oh well ... shame though ... as now I can't have a drink.

Hi All
I am still wating for confirmation from the committee but it looks as though the open will remain at the Wayside. Champ is looking at what deals he can get from the Hougue de Pommier Hotel which is about a 10 min walk from the wayside. The Pennisular is just around the coast road and buses will be quite frequent.
The Chalets that Champ mentioned are also supposed to be excellent and are opposite the wayside.
I will chase again this week

Hi All Had a call from the Peninsula this morning they can't hold on any longer waiting to be contacted so have rented out the room for the Saturday (some poor bloke is getting married). The room is still availiable for Sunday. Oge and Champs can you let the committee know when you see them. BC

I have booked the Penninsula today.
Don't want to find this booked out with the wedding party ;D
It is £10 cheaper than the hougue du Pommier per couple but further away and not a 10 minute walk.
Cheque in the post for both of us re entries. Chris

I was encouraged when I read this post from Oge......... Hi Everyone Champs is desperately running around trying to sort out our options. This has not come at the best time and we may not know straight away. So please bare with us. What ever happens i can assure you it will be worth comming. Oge I assumed that meant that alternative venues..... including the obvious choice, the Peninsula....... would be approached to allow people to stay at the venue rather than having to walk or take buses or taxis. ;) However, from the post below...... Hi All Had a call from the Peninsula this morning they can't hold on any longer waiting to be contacted so have rented out the room for the Saturday (some poor bloke is getting married). The room is still availiable for Sunday. Oge and Champs can you let the committee know when you see them. BC ..... it would seem that the Peninsula was never an option and had not been "officially" contacted? :o >:( So, it looks as though the Open will be at the Wayside...... Hi All I am still wating for confirmation from the committee but it looks as though the open will remain at the Wayside. I will chase again this week Oge ......with the "lucky few" having rooms at the venue, even if they are having to pay more to stay there than we did last year at the Peninsula - which based on what I have heard (and seen of the website for the new venue) is a far higher quality than the Wayside Cheer. :P >:( I understand that the chalets are fairly good..... and reasonably priced..... however they are really aimed at "Groups of 6" to be cost-effective, whereas most people coming over will be either couples or individuals...... ::) I do appreciate that sometimes there are very good reasons to change a venue..... the move to the Merton in Jersey is a good example and proved very successful last year...... however I would like some form of "official" answer to these questions.... 1) What "benefit" is there from the move to the new venue for people travelling over from the UK or Jersey? It would appear that we are having to pay more for an inferior hotel...... :P 2) Why was the venue not "provisionally booked" for players in advance, bearing in mind that there is the Guernsey v England match being played (which would certainly guarantee a certain number of players coming over) plus the "regular" players that have come over before, most of whom had indicated that they would probably return this year? 3) Alternatively, should the GBBA not explained to players that they would have to book the hotel at least 6 months in advance to ensure they can get a room? >:( Last year, it was February before the Entry Forms were available and , historically, most players would only confirm their entries 2-3 months (as a maximum) before an Open Tournament and nearly everybody (I would imagine) would wait at least until after Christmas before they even think about booking flights, hotels and sending off their entry forms. We booked our Flights towards the end of last year..... Flybe had a sale on.... 8-) ..... and sent our Entry Forms shortly after that. Until we saw the post from Milko we certainly did not think we would have to book the hotel that early to get a room at the venue...... only to find that the hotel had taken a block booking from a group of "Ramblers" as they hadn't had any bookings from players - 5 months before the actual Open. >:( >:( >:( So, we will be at the Open in May....... but don't know where we will be staying..... ::) ...... or, sadly, if we will return again in the future, that will entirely depend on whether we feel that the new venue offers good "value for money" in comparison to the Peninsula. :-X

I think we just have to be patient, Dave, and trust the Guernsey organising Committee to be able to sort it all out. There is the International on the Saturday also to be arranged, which cannot now be at the Peninsula (unfortunately), so I'm sure we'll hear something definite soon. So please bare with us. Oge I've already taken all my clothes off as suggested by Oge. ;) ;D

I do agree with the points made by Dave and also hope that it wont take too long for everything to be finalised, so we can book up somewhere to stay, close or at the venue.
Can someone please tell me what the name of the chalets is opposite the Wayside Cheer, so I can check on everything.
Keith.

hi all
sorry not been able to reply to anyones messages or comments as i am not in charge of the open just helping out with a few things.
i can assure you all that we are doing what we can to make this a great open, please don`t judge this open on the last two. we are hoping this will be as good as the last two but we can only wait and see.
there was a slight mix up with the wayside with rooms, we have had a meeting tonight and i will go to the hougue du pommier to see what deal he can do for you all, i will also reserve rooms just for the billiard players. the hotel is not far about 5-10 minute on foot from the wayside.
cheers champs
feel free to call me on 07781111812 if you need to know anything.
