The rusty old cue had its first outing since the 2011 Guernsey Open tonight. Spent a good evening practising at La Fontaine with Andy, Tom and Bob Le M. Table running well, some close fought matches. Andy and I were the highest scorers Diddy and Matt are recovering Ex Service table this week.
Many thanks to Gary Naftel for securing the venue for next year's (2012) Guernsey Open at Les Rocquettes Hotel, which I am sure will be hugely supported and well attended following the success of this year's competition.

Quick question - do you have to book on both Friday AND Saturday to get the Sunday rate?
Would like to attend next year having missed this year, but still VERY expensive for the single traveller, just as Jersey is :(

Guernsey Airport Closure; This is not a joke or a wind up - Heads up to all players thinking of attending Guernsey Open.
They have just announced that Guernsey Airport will close for eight days next year. We are having a major re build of the runway costing loadsofmoney ::) ::) ::)
Two of the days may effect travel back to UK so book early. The airport will definitely close on 8th & 9th May 2012 :-X There is likely to be a lot of bookings on the 7th May, the day a lot of competitors are traveling home, so it would be a good idea to book now. Also the 10th May will be busy also following our Liberation day bank holiday on 9th May. Stay the week and make a holiday of it 8-) 8-) 8-)

Ok, we're now booked so you can count Margo and Tommo in. Word of warning to anyone intending to come by boat......This year's sailing times are different to those of last year ! - No Saturday 5am sailing at all.
- Earliest Saturday boat is not 9am (arriving Guernsey 11.30am) as advertised currently as the sailing time - which would have made it tight (but possible) for entering the Pairs.
- Due to tidal changes this is now 11am (arriving Guernsey 1.30pm).
To get round this we are coming over a day early, having taken advantage of a deal where we get an extra night free. Anyone wishing to do the same, please get in quick, as these offers end soon!

Just curious which hotel is offering deal Tommo ? Is it through Condor ? Our fifth visit and we haven't stayed in the same Hotel twice! This is deliberate, variety being the spice of life. Original plan was to stay at La Chene, for ease of direction back from the venue late at night (simply follow signs to the airport) but as stated before our plans to take part in the Doubles would have been thwarted by the later-than-advertised sailing. So we've gone for this one: www.condorbreaks.com/imperial.php

Ah yes - The Imperial. More or less at Guernsey's Land's End. Superb coastal location, beach is literally just across road. Has one of the few remaining "locals" public bars where you can hear the local patois being spoken and the fish and meat draws on a Friday nights are well supported. They used to have a Bar Billiards table there and that is where Trevor started playing, in his home parish. Good reputation for food and hospitality. There is a road nearby that is closed to traffic, which is worth walking to the end, about 10 minutes, where the views are stunning and there is a fort, together with ancient Stone Circle. www.bbc.co.uk/guernsey/content/articles/2007/03/06/fairy_ring_feature.shtml

Thanks Stormin' We remembered your 'Lands End' recommendation from when we stayed at L'Eree which also had stunning views.
So far we've stayed at: 1. St Margaret's Lodge - a bit run down , views of dilapidated greenhouses from our hotel room. 2. L'Eree Bay - balcony and great sea view 3. Peninsula 4. Pandora - difficult access (right up in the clouds), but food was par excellence (5-course meals) .....and now the Imperial.
Of those stayed in so far, the Peninsula was the best, though sadly now out of our price range.

Hi everyone, great to see all these positive posts about envelope with Guernsey open and rest assured we are putting the same effort in to keep you all satisfied.
Not sure if Mr Hampton is monitoring these pro boards but last year he mentioned about coming over on the Friday so us Guernsey lads could take him for a round of golf and learn a few of his tricks. If anyone else fancies around with us on Friday morning or afternoon and don't forget to bring your clubs.
We are also thinking of running a few smaller fun games such as fastest break over 3 min to keep those occupied who get knocked out that the early stages. Any other ideas like this to keep you lot entertained are more than welcome so please keep the posts coming.

Hi Dave
Gary is away at the moment, We may have trouble getting on the L'ancresse Golf course as you have to be a member (6 year waiting list) except for some odd days and times. (there is a chance though)
La Grande Mare though is a nice venue for some proper Golf. Most of us are members at ST PP and i am sure we would also be happy for a round thursday night. As long as we are not still setting up tables for the weekend.
