But a bigger well done to the Rangers for making the Layabouts sweat a bit in some games.
No sweat at The Ex Service Club Temperature fine, although we expect it will be fffffreezing for the return leg at the Rangers Club on 27th January 2009 !
My long range weather prediction was just 7 days out. If Darren reads this can he let myself or Matt know if they will be opening The Rangers clubhouse up on Tuesday evening ? We are there for the second consecutive week. Will need more than the famous Hotdogs there to keep us warm and Diddy couldn't get the antique electric fire to work !

Hi Norman
The Rangers will be open for sure. I have explained to diddy the error of his ways and breaking the damn heater. It was never broken just turned off.
I assume the Hotdogs went down well though. It might be bacon rolls this week.

3/02/09 Layabouts 5 v Vicky Arms 0 played at Rangers Club - (equal breaks)
A.Rundle 4,200 v Joe Cunningham 1,990 N.Wilkinson 5,060 v R.Billion 1,530 (former Island darts player) T.Girard 1,290 v A. Tostevin 0 (BP) M.Ogier 3,470 v S.Billion 400 P.Dyer 3,570 v D.Crittel 790
An expected whitewash againt a new team, who fair play to them, turn out every week against guys like us who have been playing for years. Played in good spirits as the snow melted on the pitch, none of us were keen on a five-a-side football match afterwards. Biggest excitement of the evening being the antique electric fire going out again and a frantic phone call to Darren for instructions on how to get it working. GST free beefburgers to soak up the beers afterwards. Happy days !!!

9/2/09 match re-arranged from 4/11/08 Layabouts 4 Ex Service 1 (had the breaks) The two stablemates met (eventualy - as only one from the Ex Service was there at 8.30 !) Match started some time after 9.30 pm !!
Andy Rundle 6,300 Paul Mason 620 Fresh from his swimming practice and alarmed that 3/5ths of his team had forgotten about the re-arranged game, Mace was up against it from the start. Still suffering from his weekend swims in the sea, he made a cold start and Andy played a blinder yet again.
Paul Dyer 5,929 Dave de Jersey 4,460 Jers did not expect to have to play tonight as he had forgotten. However he put together a good opening 2,500 break. He lead for most of the game until Dids came back to play the table out with a 3,200 break to deservedly sneak ahead.
Tel Girard 3, 080 Dave Le Maitre 2,340 Woken from his sick bed, Dave made a good start, being the only sober one playing tonight. Tel fought hard to regain the lead, and came out tops.
Norman Wilkinson 940 Pete Goubert 2,110 Some one had to let the side down and it was me ! Never got the break back and did not have the run of the balls. Pete kept his scores, having got the pace of the table after playing skittles earlier. Might get a better quote for my bathroom now as I let him win (?!)
Matt Ogier 5,720 Davey "Little Legs" Richardson 1,710 Having arrived at the venue approx 3 hours before all his teamates, playing last was not a good idea. (Good plan by us). Matt played well and Davey was just happy to be there complaining to his team mates about their memory cells. Look out for some dodgy wiring on the site tommorow.
Layabouts are playing again at Ex service tommorow evening v Giants.

12/02/09 Layabouts 2 v Giants 3. (Giants had the breaks) A game of two halves (if you can half five). Good night of competative Bar Billiards between the current champions (Giants) and the current league leaders on the night.
Matt Ogier 5,870 Luke Oliver 4,090 Luke started off in an impressive & confident manner, playing the best I have ever seen him play. His opening break put pressure on Matt, with nearly half the game gone. However Matt cooly came back with a higher total break to secure the win.
Paul Dyer 6,460 Karl Ogier 3,260 Karl did well also, although he wished he had done more. Diddy's timed his come back once again with perfection, with a 6,100 break. Two nil to the home team, then it all went a bit pear-shaped.
Andy Rundle 1,180 Bob Le Moignan 5,230 Andy got on the table early after Bob's opening 300. However failed to get the break back. Things went from bad to worse for Andy, as Bob desevedly played a steady game, buliding breaks and keeping scores. Andy's run had to end sometime. Only his second league defeat.
Norman 0 Tom Oliver 9,210 With only one contencious defeat this season, Tom took full advantage of his opening break. When I got on it was already a lost cause and a peg on about 1,200 was my last shot of the game. Tom then played it out to record his highest league score ever.
Terry Girard 260 John van Katwyck 5,390 John made good use of his opening break and Terry was up against it from the start. The Atlantic rower John, stretching his lead as the game went on.
So a good win for the Giants recording their highest points total for 25 years, so I am reliably informed by "Mr Statistics" Sir Bob, and only the second league defeat for Layabouts this season.

Breakaways 5 Ex Service 0
Great victory for the breakaways playing against the break.
Steve Fallaize 1580 Dave le Maitre 800
Dave opened up with only 400 and letting in Steve. Steve got the break back quickly but only managed just over a 1000. The 2 players then plodded away with both their scores and the regular peg.
Ian Champion 11490 Dave Richardson 0
Little davey set off nuicely on the break scoring about 1500 when he mis hit a shot and pegged. Ian normaly not a fan of his home table quickly got the break back. Tonight though was the night to put his fear of the home table to bed. Scoring a 11250 break. Davey back on the table was unable to get going again allowing Ian to finsih off the time.
Darren Ogier 6080 Pete Goubert 1680
Pete opened up with just over 1000. Darren had seen pete recent form and knew that he need to put in a good score. Unable to get the break straight back though and allowed pete back in. Pete didn't do anything either and Darren managed to get the break back, scorig 4700 and sticking. With the game now safe Pete plodded before darren managed to get the break back before the end to play the table out with 960.
Geoff Ogier 3990 Dave De Jesey 940
The Ex service now had their 2 big guns to play Dave was disappointed to only score 450 on his opening. geoff then had his chance to take the breakaways into a 4 - 0 lead. The pressure told though as he had 2 breaks of 1500 and then just 300. Dave sensed a chance to come back and with 2500 break he pegged. This time Geoff took his chance with a 1980 break. with no time left Dave dissapointment was easy to see.
Roy Le Page 4530 Paul Mason 2870
Paul started off with a few lucky shots to keep going n the break. Although the guiness had flowed the paul knew he had to concentrate to secure a point for his team. With 2500 on the board to paul stuck. Was this going to be enough to secure a point. Roy has struggled of late and was desperate for that 5 - 0 win. Playing some of his best billiards this year scored 4320. With the game effectively over both players ran down the clock with some moderate scores.

17/02/09 Ex Service 0 Layabouts 5 Stablemates met for the third and final time this season. Layabouts had the breaks and this win apparently takes us to the top of the league (for now). Our total score for the night beats Giants total that they were so ecstatic about last week !
Paul Mason 860 N.Wilkinson 6,640 No problems with the table this week for me, and Mace was suffering from his weekend in Paris. good start.
Dave de Jersey 1,410 T.Girard 4,860 Jers has been unlucky in recent weeks and the game was not to go his way tonight also. Tel back to his old self with a steady win.
Pete Goubert 1,780 Andy Rundle 8,070 A day trip to Jersey did wonders for Andy after his dissapointment of last week. Powered by blackcurrant juice he produced the top score of the night.
D.Le Maitre 1,160 Matt Ogier 4,630 Looking better than he did last week, Dave could not however keep up with Matt's performance. Matt lost a 2k+ break, however still put in a good total.
Davey Richardson (representing Scotland) 3,310 Diddy Dyer 5.550 "The Battle of Little Shortcues" Conquerer of Trevor Gallienne already this season, Little Legs was out to cause another upset and almost did ! With only five minutes left on the clock Davey was looking favourite, over 3K up. Then as per usual, Diddy got back on and played out the table with a 5,270 break. Unlucky one Davey, but much improved games this season. top score for home team.
After the game we retired to the bar for £1.95 pints and the selection of Walkers crisps on offer, Cajun Squirrel coming out tops. with the Hoisin Duck a close second.

Hi Norm I have been off work looking after the kids Rangers 1 Vicky Arms 4 Coleen Ogier 570 Stan Billien 600 A real shame for Coleen as Stan denied her first win after putting the last ball to win. Janet Avery 880 Derek Crittell 840 A Janet wins. Although the scores look close Derek putted the red in the 200 on t he last ball. Clare Anderson 870 Mick Mason 1500 Clare was rather dissapointed with her self as week earlier she had scored 2000. Keiran Ogier 700 Rick Billien 1140 Another close game it will not be long before keiran gets his first victory Robin Everest 700 Joe Cunningham 3230 I think this is the best score joe has had all season. That will teach champ and I for teaching him some shots after our pairs.

Jamaica 2 Breakaways 3
Baz Warr 3240 R Le Page 5640 Terry Kenny 230 I Champion 11650 Bob Chapple 3840 S Fallaize 6150 Pete Lowe 3710 D Ogier 400 R Chapple 2170 G Ogier 1510
What a start for the breakaways, Playing the team top of the league we raced into a 3 - 0 lead.
Roy set the pace with a good opening break of 3500. Baz was unable to get the break back quick enough to put Roy under any pressure. He controlled the game from start to finish adding a couple more thousand.
Champ to the table, He had already played Terry twice this year 1 a each. Champ knew he had to start well with Terry more than capable of coming back at you on his own table.
Champ knocked in a slow and steady 11350. Game over and 2 - 0.
Captain Bob then put himself in to steady the ship. Steve started edgy knowing that Bob was the league form player. After scoring around 1500 he let bob in. Bob got the break back straight away but was unable to score his normal big score. Steve back at the table and playing some of his best billiards this year ending with a comfortable win come the end.
Next up Darren Ogier. Looking to continue his current form. That all ended once the 50p was in. Scoring only 150 on his break. Pete was then able to score a 3000 break and then loaded the table to stop getting the break back. This stiffled me although i did manage to keep my scores and slowly catch Pete. I ended getting the break back with 30 secs to go. Bar drops and i am 650 behind. All the balls in the tray except the red. That lay between the 50 and 200 holes.
So after so time to think i decided to come off the left hand cushion and attempt to cut the red in the 200. The shot was almost brilliant. The white sat nicely in front of the left hand peg. The Red into the 200 after spinning and knocking over the black. Gutted !!!!!
Last game
Saw Dad open up with 2500 and with a bad kick pegged and allowed young Robert in. This ended up being the worst game i had seen for a while as both players played some rubbish and surprising shots.
With just under 2 mins to go Rober got the break back scored a 1000 and it was to late.
A 3-2 victory still happy

24/2/09 Layabouts 3 Baulkliners 2 Played at The Jamaica Inn - equal breaks.
With the amplified sounds of the San Siro stadium ringing in our ears this match kicked off in a very crowded pub, due to a league card game also being played on the same night. If you did not stay on the break this table had some strange rolls tonight. Baukliners had their full side out with no reserves, so they were out to avenge the defeat we had already inflicted on them this season
N.Wilkinson 1,240 Pete Sanders 3,230 I fluffed my opening break and Pete was looking favourite when he came back with 5K. However an underhit stick shot lost him the score. I failed to get going as the game progressed and Pete settled to take the first.
Matt Ogier 5,940 Rodney Smith 1,010 As I was marking, I was amazed that both players just did not get to grips with the table. With over half the game gone neither had scored over 1k. However Oggy eventualy got his act together and put in a decent break. Man U still can not score.
Paul Dyer 10,100 Peter Webb 1,780 Good opening break put Diddy ahead and he never looked back. When the game was won, Diddy relaxed and started to build a good second break. over 10 k total . Would he have top score of the night ?. More groans from Man U fans.
Terry Girard 1,790 Trevor Gallienne 10.990 Trevor broke off first, and surprisingly was off after just 500. Shock on the cards ? I don't think so. Terrys reply was not enough and Trev settled, banging in a score that beat Diddy's. 2-2 - Now the decider.
Andy Rundle 6,560 Barry Osborne 2,580 Andy ignored the groans of the ManU supporters, and concentrated on his opening break of 5,660. Ozzy had no real answer to this and Andy was pleased to win us the match.
Quick dash down to the Fontaine afterwards where Jers is running the place for his brother. His team's opponents did not turn up so we helped finish off the remaining sausage and chips.

Stable mates Breakaways and the Rangers met at the Vicky Arms.
Breakaways 5 Rangers 0
Janet Avery 1030 Steve Fallaize 2040
Steve struggled with this table and scored very few on his opening break. Janet looked good in the practice but the nerves got the better of her, missing the break from the start. Steve not comfortable all night but managed to score enough to win. Janet however improved and scord over 1000 from the vback of the table.
Ian Merrien 1110 R le Page 2690
Ian another family memeber of the Ogier stepped in as a reserve. He was unable to keep 1 up on the break and gave Roy an easy start. Roy however could not get the break either. The 2 players then took turns to lead the match. As the end neared the end a very nervous Roy managed to get a break and take the lead for the final time.
Coleen Ogier 870 Geoff Ogier 1360
Husband and wife met for the second time this season. Both players looked to score points on and off the table as the banter was wild in this one. Coleen battled hard and managed some very good shots. Geoff though made sure he scored enough for the win and some bragging rights.
Clare Anderson 620 Ian Champion 4690
Childhhood sweat hearts met again. This time Clare had been practicing was deteremined to mount a better challenge. Clare though would score well then 1 silly shot would result in a loss of score. Ian was determined to top score for the night and get a bonus for the 5000 mark. My he tried and with some gentle ribbing from his team mates Failed.
Keiran Ogier 410 R le Page 2690
The 2 brothers met in this 1. Kerian was unable to get going though. Darren had 1 mission to beat Ian.

3/03/09 Layabouts 4 Jamaica 1 played at Ex Service club. Jamaica had the breaks.
N.Wilkinson 1,220 Pete Lowe 4,220 My poor form continued, however I had my chances. Pete was off early with just 500 and I thought my luck was in. However the table was not playing as it was last week, as others were to find out during the course of the evening. Pete then got the break back half way through the game, and took his second chance, playing some good shots. However we were both unhappy with our performances. Scrappy game.
Paul Dyer 6,310 Robert Chapple 2,270 Robert is only one of two players to take a game off Diddy this season, and he started off looking like he could repeat the feat. However a ball on the back cush was his undoing, and a lost break of 1,550 let Dids back on. Paul failed to capitalize at first and only scored 700. However Robert let him on again and Dids made sure of the point at his second attempt with a 5,500 break.
Tel Girard 3,100 Barry Warr 1,160 At one each, this match was very much in the balance. Nothing wrong the table, however no one seemed to feel comfortable with it this evening. Baz was off early with just 350 and Tel struggled also. then Baz seemed to get the pace and put together a very useful 3K break, however another missed ball in the centre was crucial. Tel accepted the chance to steal another point, finishing strongly.
Andy Rundle 3,730 Bob Chapple 590 A big score was expected between two of the top players this season. Bob started off confidently, sinking a huge variety of shots and was looking good at 2,600 on the break. However for the third time on the night a big loss of score proved crucial to the outcome. Andy came back on and scored slowly, however Bob did not get the run of the balls. Andy then banged in 3,000, and then the game was out of reach for Bob. Andy then took his time as Bob tried in vain to get the break back.
Matt Ogier 5,550 Terry Kenny 3,490 In what proved to be the best game of the evening Terry was out to salvage another point. Playing better than any of his teamates, surprisingly he was off at just 1k. However a further 2K had him looking favourite. But then Matt came back with some superb shots to get back on the break. and built up a timely 4,050. Terry had no more in the tank, and Matt secured a 4-1 win for the home team.
Witnessed by Champ* whos team had no game tonight (*who was very scared) - next weeks two fixtures against the Breakaways will be crucial in the outcome of the league. Monday we are home and Tuesday away at Rangers club, so title is still wide open.

Another good win for the layabouts especially as it was against the break
Results from the Rangers
Rangers 1 Giants 4
Coleen Ogier 240 Karl Ogier 2740
Karl had a poor start and scored less than 1k. He struggled all game but coleen also struggled and was unable to get any decent scores. Both Players could do better Karl still took a drink.
Clare Anderson 990 RLe Moignan 3040
Bob started off very nervously and struggled on his opening few shots. He was still on the table though and once settled down played very well. Best performance by a gianst Player. Clare was a little unlucky with some shots and showed how she has improved so much this year. No more off the wall bizzare shots.
Katie Leaf 290 J Van Katwyk 1720
Katie another new player. Another female off the Specsavers Conveyor belt. Managed to rope in that day. She showed some shots to say only ever played for 15mins before hand at lunch time. Jon never looked in danger of losing this one. He would though not of been happy with his performance. Good sportsmanship shown though.
Ian Merrien 1700 L Oliver 1520
This looked to be a close one from the start with Auntie Coleen, Unlce Geoff and cousin Darren cheering on Ian. To keep the family support going Luke did have his Dad support. Luke started off ok but came off with only 500. Ian played a sensible game not rushing and scoring poiints as much as he could without forcing anything. As the time ticked by the game was nip and tuck and the tension was high. Nearing the end Ian broke away to secure the win although Luke did finish off the table to make the scores closer.
Janet Avery 390 Tom Oliver 2370
Tom didn't look his normal self. Missing some unusual shots for a player of his quality. He never looked in danger of losing though as his experience shone through. Janet Tried in vain but as she built her score a peg was just around the corner. A good few shots though inbetween.
Rangers went away rather pleased with their point. Now with 6 different female players Guernsey may have a female team one day.

9/3/09 Layabouts 0 Breakaways 5 (re - arranged from 6/12/08)
N.Wilkinson 3540 S.Fallaize 3680 In a determined effort to avenge the game I took off him earlier this season, Steve broke off with a steady 2000. Mid game, he was still looking good, scoring and building up to over to 3K. Then I managed to clear some difficult balls to get the break back. replying with 3,500. However I failed to play the table out with about a minute remining. When the bar droped, awkward balls in middle meant it was nip and tuck. Steve managed to score off them and needed the 100 on last ball to win by 140.
Geoff Ogier 8280 Matt Ogier 400 Putting one of our big guns on failed to have any effect. The old master, playing slowly but surely, opened with an impressive 7,400 break, in about 12 minutes. Oggy has no chance after this, and ended up with just 400. Good performance from Geoff without too much dancing for a change.
Terry Girard 2570 Darren Ogier 4810 Probably a little closer than the scores suggest this was a bad game for the home player. Daz only scored a slow 1,000 to start and Terry was soon back on the break. However he broke down early, leaving a short one up. Darren then scored another low break although was still ahead. Terry then got another break back and was looking good with time to spare. However broke down on 2,400. Game effectively over, Darren took control to keep his lead gratefuly.
Paul Dyer 4570 Roy Le Taxi 5650 Roy started off confidently and steady play resuted in an opening 5,500 break. A daunting score to come back from for most players, however if any one could reply it would be Diddy. Quickly getting the break back he was flowing, however a nasty kick on the break put him out of position. The following shot went wrong and he was off at 2,500. Roy then played a steady game with Dids suffering a slight dip in form on the night.
Andy Rundle 340 Ian Champion 10940 This was always going to be about the opening break on such a high scoring top, and we all were surprised when Champ was off with only 3,000. However Andys first attempt to get the break back resulted in a white peg. Champ then took control killing the game off with a superb 7K break, to Thai the game up. A rare defeat for Andy. Good win for the away team who made good use of their opening breaks on a high scoring top.

Result round 2
Breakways 1 Layabouts 4
Steve Fallaize 1020 N Wilkinson
These 2 met for the third time this season. The tension was high as layabouts were out to avenge their 5 - 0 defeat the night before. Norman set off well but was off the table with aroung 1500. Steve then set the tone for the the breakaways and the rest of the night. 1 or 2 really good shots then a horrible miss or peg. Steve fought right to the end however when Norman got the break back just before the bar dropped he extended his lead to comfortably come the end.
Roy Le Page 1220 Matt Ogier 4270
Matt had been on a very good run until it was ended the night before. Now playing the other elder statesman of the breakaways team. He was out to get his season back on track. He too though was off the table early. Roy had plenty of chances but never took one and Matt ran a comfortable winner.
Darren Ogier 1170 Andy Rundle 2480
A game both would like to forget. And broke off with around 1400. This would seem a simple task for the breakaways to get a point on the scorecard. However for all is huffing and puffing Darren could not get the break back. Andy really struggled too as both of them seemed intent on clearing the balls only to peg or put a ball between the 10 and 100 for which they would then miss. Still Layabouts were chirping like the two blokes in Andy picture contribution of the night.
Geoff Ogier 4370 Paul Dyer 3560
The writting was on the wall with the as the breakaways feared a 5 - 0 reversal was now going to be on the cards. Paul broke off with 3500. This being the best break of the night was the old master able to come back. With his first visit Geoff though missed and let Paul Back in. Paul quickly got the break back. For the first time in memory though paul put 4 down. Geoff then seized his chance with a 4100 break. With liitle time left Paul pushed to get going again but only managed 60. Geoff then went on to finish the game and end any hopes for a 5 - 0 revenge.
Ian Champion 1720 Terry Girard 3280
Terry was in a stealy mood and you could feel the tension. Terry was out to avenge his first round defeat to Ian in the singles. Scoring a good 2500 break Ian was under pressure. Ian though was able to score well around the back of the table but could not get that break back. Terry was now in the ascendancy and kept adding to his score. With a couple of minutes to go Ian managed to get the break back he though miss judged the time and forced a few shots. This led to him being out of position and allowed terry back in far too quickly. Terry then ran down the clock for victory.
Breakaways were gutted with the turn around in fortunes from the previous night, however on reflection a 6 - 4 victory over the 2 nights was pleasing.

10/03/09 Result round 2 Breakways 1 Layabouts 4 Breakaways were gutted with the turn around in fortunes from the previous night, however on reflection a 6 - 4 victory over the 2 nights was pleasing. If Mr Ogier would kindly refer to his fixture list, this will confirm that on the three occasions Layabouts have played Breakaways in the league this season, Layabouts have triumphed on two occasions. However I would concede that on legs won, the aformentioned Breakaways are just ahead by 8 legs to 7. Any talk of league titles should be tempered with the fact that Breakaways have yet to face Trevor Gallienne's team The Baulkliners three times this season, wheras the Layabouts have already beaten them twice. ;D

17/3/09 Layabouts 4 Rangers 1 played at Jamaica Inn (single game break comes back)
Norman Wilkinson 1930 Claire Anderson 1110 First game on again, I made hard work of ths one. Claire was never going to win, however she kept some scores and showed that she has learnt to keep her breaks and leave awkward balls on the table. With one eye on Arsenal I noticed them loosing to Hull I was wishing the Blades were there instead !
Matt Ogier 3160 Coleen Ogier 750 Matt made a mess of his opening break, however recovered mid way through the game, although he wished he had scored more on this table.
Terry Girard 2580 Jan Avery 680 jan played very well and was unlucky to loose some big breaks. trouble with the one up, however hope she keeps playing as some good touches shown, and nice cue action !
Andy Rundle 6700 R.Everest 110 Andys' opening break of over a thousand was a good start. however mid game he left Robin with a mountain to climb after a 5000+ break. Obviously after the top score of the night.
Paul Dyer 1940 Ian Merrien 2930 With the opening break Dids looked safe to secure the 5-0. However on about 2k he clipped the peg and it all went downhill after that. Ian played a very steady game and the harder Diddy tried, the worse it got. When he did get the break back it was too late to catch Ian. So a notable husband and wife double over Diddy this season and a surprise point for the Rangers. Good job the Arsenal won otherwise there would have been even more dissapointment for him.

Breakaways 3 Giants 2
Darren Ogier 4240 R Le Moignan 1400
Darren broke off with 2000 this set him up nicely in what is regarded as a difficult table. With this being a neautral game the balls cam back for Bob break. Bob though struggled with only 800. Darren the steadily added soem score. with another chance at the break he put in another 2000. This forced Bob to chase the game. He was unable to get the break and Darren won the game comfotably.
Ian Champion 9690 Jon Van Kat Wyk 1160
Jon Broke of was unable to progress past 500. Ian then put in 1500. Jon then was unable to add to his score. Ian back on the table and the break put in a 6000 break. Jon then had no time to catch Ian. Jon added a some score but allowed Ian back in to extend his winning margin.
G Ogier 1380 T Oliver 3680
Geoff let Tom in early as he tried to force the 50. Tom then was able to break off with 2000. The game was very poor as neither player could add any scores. With a couple of minutes to go the game was still in the balance. Tom though managed to put in a small break a the end.
S Fallaze 1400 K Ogier 1870
Neither played well and it was a game of who could keep their scores in the game. Karl was able to plod away and beat steve by only 470. This brought$ the match back to even 2- 2.
R Le Page 2530 L Oliver 1490
Roy and Luke Pleyed well but were unable to push on with a decent break. Luke had a couple of good chances to get the break back but failed at the crucial moment. As the game beagan to look a tight affair luke handed Roy back the break after leaving the ball on the peg spot.

With only three weeks to go The Guernsey Bar Billiards league title is set up for an interesting final batch of matches. On paper, any one of five teams could end up winning it, due to the high amount of unplayed matches this season for some reason. Layabouts hold the lead however have matches to play against Trevor's Baulkliners against the break and a final match versus current league champions The Giants on the final game of the season. Breakaways have to play The Baulkliners three times and the outcome of these matches will be crucial to both teams. Current league table taken from The Guernsey Bar Billiards Association website;

Game 1 catch up for Breakaways
Played Monday 23/3/09
Vicky Arms 0 Breakaways 5
Steve Murphy 0 S Fallaize
As usual Steve kicked things off for us. Steve f started off well but at just over 1000 he ended his break. Steve M showed some good ability this being the first time he had played. The vicky arms still a tricky table once past the 50's became difficult for both players to score. Steve f managed to keep building his score and extend his lead. In the closing minutes Steve M black pegged to flatter steve f.
S Wasterey 650 I Champion 5050
Ian stuggled on the table this week after scoring 9000 on the same table last week. His opponent another new player to the league. You could hold a cue though and showed some great potting ability an obvious pool player. Ian though had managed to build a good lead as he had made 2 or 3 good visits to the table. Ian now concentrated on ensuring that vital extra point that 5000 brings you. With the bar dropped Ian managed to edge over the line.
Mick Mason 610 Darren Ogier 6180
Darren had a strange kick on his opening break and was off the table with only 500. Mick the more experenced player in there team couldn't get anything going and was soon off the table. Darren then was able to knock in a 3000 break before sticking. The 2 players then had a few shots each around the table before darren added a couple more thousand to end the game.
Sue Murphy 610 G Ogier 1790
Geoff does not like this table and it was all about getting the job done. With a 1200 break he had a good lead. His opponent only playing her second game. Yes another female player for guernsey after none for the last 10 years 7 come along all at once. The table became a battle at the back with Geoff coming out on top.
R Billian 1210 R Le Page 2210
A game Roy would be releived to win. Roy didn't do much on the break and struggled throughout the game. Rick though showed some very good shots and was unlucky not to get more out of the game. Roy did manage to get the break back right at the end to flatter him.

Baulkliner 1 breakays 4
Barry Osbourne 5140 Steve Fallaize 2540
Steve started off well with a 2000 break. Barry though has had a solid season and would not see this as a problem. He quickly got the break back. With 2500 he pegged allowing Steve to have another chance. Steve could not capitalise though and allowed Barry back in. Barry knocked 5000 befor touching up with the bar dropped.
T Gallienne 5060 G Ogier 5550
Could Geoff do enough to beat the worl champion on his own table? Geoff started off nervously as usual with his dancing feet on. With a break of 2000 he was dissapointed to be off the table so early against Trevor. Trevor though was unable to reply. After both players visited the table a number of time Geoff managed to get the break back. He posted 3500 before leaving his 50 / 30 shot short. This left 4 1/2 minutes to go and with Trevor 5500 behind. This was not over as Trevor is more than capable of getting it back. Trevor was unable to catch him though and fell short by just 490.
P Webb 10 I Champion 10750
Ian settled in well and managed a 7500 break to effectively kill the game. Pete had a couple of visits before he got his 10 to save the whitewash. Ian then got the break back and played the table out.
P Sanders 2220 Darren Ogier 4800 Darren Kick off with 2000 but when the ball rolled off the spot when he went to play the one up it put him off and left both balls short. Pete managed to get the break straight back but only managed 1500. Darren back on the break again, this time 3 down and nervous from the previous break left both short again. Pete thogh could not get going and Darren was back on the break again this time played the rest of the table out with 1500 to win.
Jon Williams 1170 Roy Le Page 5210
Roy set off well with a 3000 break. Jon although the baulkliner reserve is more than capable of turning this around. This though was not his night as Roy continued to add to his score and runaway with the game.

24/3/09 Layabouts 5 Vicky Arms 0
Rivals Breakaways had beaten this much changed team 5-0 the previous evening. No pressure then !
Terry Girard 3120 Scott Wastery 1240 First on, Terry made a slow start and was not able to make full use of the break when he got it back the first time. However as the game developed he settled more, and built up a good lead that saw him win comfortably in the end.
Paul Dyer 9,390 R.Billien 250 Diddy played his usual attacking game once he got the break back on his home table and devestated his opponent with two breaks of about 4,500. A contender for top score of the night ?
Norman Wilkinson 4510 Steve Murphy 2150 Another survivor from the old St Jacques tavern days, Steve showed some good touches and managed quite a high break towards the end of the frame. keen to improve, he could cause a few shocks in the future if he continues playing.
Andy Rundle 7650 Sue Murphy 440 Former landlady Sue has taken over the captaincy of this team and is determined to finish the backlog of fixtutes that are outstanding. seems very keen to continue next season and even went back on to table for practice after the game had finished. Another contender for a future Guernsey ladies side. Oh yes - Andy played a steady game with his big break of 6970 coming towards the end rather than at first.
Matt Ogier 9980 Mick Mason 380 Not obviously after Diddys score when he started, Matt played a masterful game, not missing much when he got the break back. As the time ebbed away with Mick slowly sinking into his chair Oggy realised a big score was on the cards. However the fact that he beat Diddy's effort was tempered by the fact that he was so close to the 10K, he was left cursing for a few minutes..
When news came through that Breakaways has beaten Baulkliners 4-1 we knew that the finish to the season will be even closer than expected. Can Trevor & Co. put in a good performance v Breakaways tonight during catch up Game 2 ???? Watch this space...............

Catch Up game 2
Wednesday 25/03/09
Julian Webb 1560 Darren Ogier 0 BP
Julian set off with 1200 in what seemed like 10 mins (more like 4 though). As it was neutral the break was then handed to Darren. This was not a big score to catch on the impressive Ex service table. Darren went off well and at 3800 looked in control. However after leaving red short at the 100 when attempting the 30/100 shot. Darren then went on to miss and give the advantage back to Julian. Julian kept adding to his score and Darren was ubnable to get the break back and lost his score at the end going for the 200.
Trevor Gallienne 13340 Geoff Ogier 0
Geoff had the opening break on this one and knew that Trevor would be after revenge from the previous night. Geoff was looking good at 1500 when he went for a 50/20. Unfortunately though he pegged. This was the last time Geoff went to the table though as Trevor eased to a break of 13340. This put Breakaways 2 - 0 down and it didn't look good.
Barry Osbourne 2820 Steve Fallaize 3500
Steve started poorly struggling to get the weight right. After leaving the red very short and having to push it a long way to the 50 missed. The 2 had also met the previous night and Barry now looked in control. He was knocking in a good break when a sloppy 50 sent him to the back of the table where his break ended. The 2 players then had a number of visits but neither could take control. Steve did get the break back but was unable to capatilise and let Barry back in. With just over 2 mins to go though Steve did master the break and with a 2500 break to win.
Pete Webb 1570 Roy Le Page 7030
Pete only managed 1200. Roy though had struggled with maintaining good break recently and we did't know which way this was going to go. Roy though had other ideas and knocked in a 6500 break to set up a comfortable win.
Pete Sanders 3930 Ian Champion 7430
Now at 2 - 2 wo was going to take the team win. Ian probably the league form player over the last 6 weeks had the opening break. His team where confident in there own player. Ian shocked us though win only a 3000 break. Pete on his day is more than capable of knocking in big scores came back at Ian. Pete was going nicely and managed to take the lead with a break of 3930. With the game now in the balance what could Ian do. Well play the rest of the table out and run out a comfortable winner.
Breakaways are now 3 points behind the Layabouts with 1 game in hand. The Baulkliners look as though they will have a massive say in where the league goes. They play both teams next week and Baulkliners have the break in both games.

31/3/09 Layabouts 2 Baulkliners 3
Following their humiliation of the Breakaways the previous evening, Trevor's team were on a high, looking forward to the opening breaks on the high scoring Ex Service table.
Paul Dyer 4570 Peter Webb 1050 Pete was off early with no score and it looked like a piece of cake for Diddy. However he struggled to get the break back and there followed a spell when each player had their chances then blew them. When all looked lost, Diddy finaly got his act together and managed a half decent break to give us a 1-0 advantage.
Andy Rundle 3330 Rodney "rattle your jewellery" Smith 2070 Rodders was off after just 1600 and it should have been a doddle for Andy to "stamp" his authority. However the pressure was telling and he did not play his normal game. Fortunately he did get back on track with the break in good time to get his nose in front, and although he gave us all heart attacks with a shot off the bottom cush, manged to keep a 2990 break to secure a second win.
Norman Wilkinson 0 Trevor Gallienne 15280 As we feeling a little sorry for our opponents we put Trev on next, who had managed 13K on the table the week previous. Playing like a man possesed he was in no mood to win by a small margin. He touched at 15230 just as the bar dropped, without me even having a shot. I sank most of the remaining balls for consolation points only to loose my score with a peg.
Matt Ogier 1670 Barry Osbourne 8220 Barry has has a fantastic season, turning back the clock for the 20 times league champions. Matt did get a chance half way through when he got the break back. However was dissapointed to come off with just 1600. After that Ozzy took control and never gave Matt another chance. 2-2 now and another point would be most welcome.
Terry Girard 1320 Pete Sanders 10110 Former Island player Pete showed that he still can put in some big scores and looked relaxed as he powered ahead with his opening break and never looked like loosing. Terry played some good shots but never stood a chance against the break on this excellent table. Pete ending up joining the 10K club this season.
As long as Darren sends his missing score cards into Matt, things look equal on points going into the final game next week. We play the Giants and Breakaways play Mace's crowd. We all hope Champ does not postpone the game to visit his Ladyboy friends in Thailand again, as he has not scored much recently.

yes we lost 5 0 to the Baulkliners full results willfollow when i have them
Raqngers 0 Breakaways 5
Keiran Ogier 370 Ian Champion 4260
After the struggles we had the night before it was a relief for Ian to get the win. He still struggled though and it took two 2000 breaks to get his score. Keiran was just glad to be back playing after being sick for the last few weeks.
Janet Avery 430 R Le Page 2400
Roy looked in danger of losing this one right until the end. Janet palyted some good shots and roy was unable to keep any scores. He got the break back at the end to secure a win
Clare Anderson 1140 Darren Ogier 6150
Clare struggled with the one up and ended her break early with only 400. The 2 players then struggled around the back of the table before Darren got the break back scoring 2700. After the 2 players then added to there score Darren regained the break and managed 3000.
Coleen Ogier 100 Steve Fallaize 1460
Coleen struggled to get going and seemed nervous. Steve managed to accrue enough score though to win. Even though it was not much.
Katie Leafe 660 Geoff Ogier 4170
Katie still new to the game shows she has natrual ability and manages to hit shots well. She was not good enough though on this occasion as Geoff was desperate to get back to winning ways.
