For those of you who find it cold at the moment, spare a thought for Paul Mason, captain of Guernsey's Ex-Service team. He is in training for a charity cross-channel swim, and was pictured in today's local paper in the sea last weekend. Further details to follow regarding sponsorship and which charity will benefit from his efforts.

Well...... the moment of truth has arrived for Paul and his swimming partner Becky as they both attempt their own personal Everest of a Channel Swim. Although not well known by a lot of the Uk and Jersey BB players, 'Mace' is a very popular guy here in Guernsey and there is never a dull moment when he is around. Please send them positive thoughts and we hope all the weather and tide conditions are in their favour. Hundreds of hours of training has been put into this single attempt and we wish them both well. All money raised by sponsorship is for good causes. www.thisisguernsey.com/2009/09/08/swimmers-set-for-the-big-one/

Any update on the brave swimmers Norm? Headline in todays local paper. "Channel swim delayed by strong winds" One last chance to swim on Wednesday apparently, however the tide would be against them. Both swiimmers are confident that they can make it if all the saftey checks and support boats are ready. It is up to the boat pilots to make the final decision. After all the build up and swimming in Dover harbour for practice (which is apparently not pleasant) they would be very dissapointed if the swim were to be called off. Fingers crossed that they will get the chance this time ;).

Latest update from the Guernsey channel swim headquarters. Mace and Becky are currently back in Guernsey. Saw Davey "little legs" Richardson last evening who works with Mace, who is one of the chief "Honcho's" at large building company R.G.Falla. The weather forecast was too severe for today apparently, so they both came home to their families and for work reasons. However the weather forcast for the weekend is much better and they plan to travel over to Dover again this weekend, as the tide looks good for another planned attempt. Having had to give up the beer for six weeks, and if you know Mace, this sounds harder to do than the actual swim, he is still determined and psyched up to get this swim behind him.

According to todays local paper. Mace & Becky were due to start their swim this morning. Yesterday they flew to Gatwick as the weather forcast for today was favourable. The swim is expected to take them between 10 and 12 hours and they would be finishing in the dark. Probably will not hear if they succeeded until Sunday morning. Fingers crossed everybody !

They have managed it !!!!!! Not a lot of details yet, apart from the fact that it was very hard work, Mace is feeling "brand new" now and having a beer or severel. Becky came ashore first with a superb time of 11 hours and 43 minutes Mace managed it in 13 hours and 28 minutes, well, it is rumoured he likes to take his time !

Congratulations to them both. Great article, and a historic achievement.
What a sense of relief that they were able to get underway in the first place - that in itself must have spurred them on. 8-)
