The 2009 Guernsey Masters competition was held at The Penisula Hotel last evening. As a prelude to the weekends events, sixteen of the top Guernsey players battled it out on a set of superbly turned out tables. Many thanks on behalf of everbody to Bob Chapple and his band of helpers who worked very hard this week sorting the tables out and even installing one in the Houmet Tavern opposite the Hotel. The quarter final rounds produced some big scores and bigger shocks, as last years finalists Trevor Gallienne and Karl Ogier failed to make it to the semi-final stages. However it was four Guernsey Island players who got some more practice for the Jersey game this evening. Teamates Darren Ogier and Ian Champion lost in the semis. This set up a titanic clash between Andy Rundle (Layabouts) and Bob Chapple (Jamaica). After a long and tireing evening it was Andy who won through in the end. When the bar dropped at 12.20am and Sir KT marked up the final score, Andy was delighted to add the Masters title to his cv this season. On to tonight ! Currently. Guernsey Airport is fogged in, so Tommo's decision to come over by boat seems justified. With only a few of the selected Jersey team here at the moment, tonights encounter could be interesing if the rest of the team fail to make it over. They may be hot footing it down to the harbour as I speak. However this fog usualy clears during the day, and we hope all competitors make it over for tonight and The Open on Sunday. * Watch this space for further weather updates !

I hope it's gone by 3.30 today. More planes getting in now, so the situation will soon improve once those busy people at airport catch up.
