Riley from Caterham, Surrey: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320915031791Self-confessed aborted restoration project. Semi-dismantled state must reduce its potential sale value by £100 meaning it should go for around £400 or less. Not sure that the slate is as perfect as claimed. That looks like a double hairline crack to me in the back right of the picture. Will need recovering also to make it pristine. Went for just £278 after 6 bids.

Tommo, From the pics I think its more of a hatchet job than aborted project? The front plank above the ball tray sits infront / across the top of the legs, rather than rebated into the side of the legs, comparing it with other Riley tables. I'm not convinced if the front panel is original?

Come to think of it, there is something of the Frankenstein's monster about it! ;D Yes, everything points to past damage to the frame, and if the job done serves its purpose, then maybe a better job could have been done in disguising same with a coat of varnish.
Good top, good working timer - pity he couldn't have found the time to put it all back together ! Will probably be snapped up by one of those companies who specialise in refurbishments, who will use its best bits for other tables. :-/

Hi Tommo, Any thoughts on the off centred timer & coin slot, I've not seen that configuration on a Riley ?

Hi Tommo, Any thoughts on the off centred timer & coin slot, I've not seen that configuration on a Riley ? Sorry, should have marked it down as a Burroughes and Watts. Configuration is typical for one of theirs. Have grouped the two types (B & W and Riley) together as one company bought the other and became Riley Burwat. B & W tables are well-constructed and prevalent in Jersey, where the World Championships are hosted.

Electric coin-operated one from NW London: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130717992592Looks quite old from the wood, reckon this one has found its way down from Accrington at some stage. I've seen quite a few from there that are fitted with electronic timers. Went for a bargain £370 after 2 bids.

Hmmmm difficult to say exactly without seeing the legs.
Pity there's only the one photo.
The top itself looks in good nick.

Blowing up and enhancing the enlarged picture, it may be 'Riley Burwatt Limited' on the makers plate.

Riley Burwat from Cheltenham, Glos: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bar-Billiards-Table-/230865210294?Immaculate baize, electronic timer (fine till they go wrong !) Buy-it-now set about £100 too high. :-/ Went for just £281 after 3 bids. Amazed the seller let it go for this after slapping on a £600 "Buy-it-now".

Riley, location Ramsgate, Kent, that has had a recent refurbishment lavished on it. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bar-billiard-table-newly-refurbished-/300808884042Unfortunately the wood matching is not too clever, and the overall effect is that the table has a new front end. So not too much value has been added. £600 top whack. Went to a single bid of £440.

Ooh here's a nice one, Guernsey will like this Riley with a red cloth.....location Gravesend, Kent: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bar-billiards-table-/200848916113Bidding has ended on this item. ....or rather, nobody prepared to make the requested starting bid of £600. Maybe this was set a little high: if they tried again and knocked it down to, say, £500, I'm sure they'd get a bite.

Low start and no reserve on this table from a Hotel in Uppingham, Rutland (my guess is it's the Falcon): www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Antique-Slate-Top-Bar-Billiards-Table-1921-Refurbished-/281034271243The date given of 1921 is "twirly" (1934 on-). Presumably the Jelkes backboard added to this Riley was done at the time of the recent refurbishment, but only serves to detract from its authenticity. Whoever acquires it could offer it to a specialist as a swap. Went for £571.99 after 15 bids.

This one looks strangely familiar (from dogsbody of Wakefield) but I can't find any prior reference to it....... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bar-Billiards-Table-/321041501651Maybe it's just the vendor, seems to be a dealer, has refurbed a pool table recently.Anyway the table looks in nice condition, apart from having had the S.V. Brevete timer removed and replaced with an electronic one. Went for £650 after 25 bids, someone eventually opting for the "Buy-it-now" price.

Riley, Bilston (Staffs) nicely presented but opening bid requested set far too high: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Riley-Bar-Billiard-Table-/170940668845?pt=UK_Sports_Memorabilia_ET&hash=item27ccdb9badNo bids at that starting price (£749.99)!Relisted, but the same comments apply: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Riley-Bar-Billiard-Table-/170944780703?No bids again, surprise surprise as starting bid set too high.Answer here is to ask for opening bid of, say, £500 but set a reserve of £750 and a Buy-it-now of £800. May then get a sniff.......Yes, it's back on again, but no lesson learned, a complete waste of time IMHO: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Riley-Bar-Billiard-Table-/170951529225Bidding has ended on this item. Unsurprisingly, no dice again. Revised approach needed! Yawn........ www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Riley-Bar-Billiard-Table-/170956416306Bidding has ended on this item. The hint taken at last, back on with a requested opening bid of £600. Still a bit high for a Riley: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Riley-Bar-Billiard-Table-/170960627138Bidding has ended on this item.No interest again, despite being the last one standing ! Here we go again, persistent to the extreme ! ::) www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Riley-Bar-Billiard-Table-/170969111472Went to a single bid of £600.Thank the Lord ! Someone finally willing to meet the minimum asking price.

Here's an interesting one on sale from Norfolk: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bar-billiards-table-/290872573620No points for spotting the top is on back to front, but is this done to disguise the absence of a ball tray ? We had one like this a few years ago and it led to some amusing mental images of Milko pulling the handle and then racing round to the other end of the table in an attempt to score 20k! Went for £205 after 11 bids. Shock in store for someone, or maybe a calculated purchase by a dealer ? :-/
