A reminder for this Saturday for Redhill people and any outside guests lucky to have received an invite. ;D ;D ;D
This is a fun competition, held annually at the Limes, South Merstham (great pub). Mine Hosts are Jason Wadsworth and the lovely Trisha. Competition organisers Dave and Caroline Jones and John Childs.
The entry is hopefully 48, and they start off by doing a draw, everyone goes in either Pool A, Pool B or Pool C. Each of the 16 Triples thus drawn at random is put into one of four groups, and you play against the other 3 triples in your group, then there's quarterfinals, semifinals and the grand Final. And of course a Plate competition.
The C-rated player in the combi has 1st break in first prelim game, the B player first go in the 2nd game and the A player goes first in the 3rd game. At all times 2000 is the maximum break, if you go over you not only lose the break but have to wear this stupid donkey hat until someone else does similar or has a black peg to take it off you.
It's usually a great day with lots of see-sawing in fortune (and ee-awing !) and the inevitable great banter.
Play starts at midday (prompt !) and finishes around 8pm.

Well Josie, you and Mick missed a great day.
You play for South Park 'B' - right ? How surprised would you be if I said that three of your team-mates appeared in the Finals, one on each side in the Main competition, and one playing against the World Champion in the Plate Final ? ;D

Tommo
Firstly - don't make me feel any worse than I already do!!! I'm sitting at work doing the most boring job today - every minute feels like an hour!!!!
Secondly, I wouldn't be surprised at all. I play for the very best team in Surrey with the very best players!!!!!! The only thing I'm trying to work out now is who was the third player? You, BBR and ??? Paul ??? :-/
Now you have me intrigued. You and BBR in the main final? Come on - tell me - who do I need to congratulate? I'm guessing you as you're being so secretive!!!!!!! ;)

The Main Final was full of incident: We won by 7120-1470, but BB Reaper and Andy Farmer-Wright both tragically spilled 3k breaks when trying not to exceed the 3k limit. Not wishing to rub it in, but I have an excellent photo on my phone of the Reaper wearing the clown's hat. ;)
It should not go unheralded that Sir KT won his first ever Redhill trophy to add to his vast collection, and is in trouble with Lady Hayley for having beaten her twice including in the final. :o :o
I believe that the day was enjoyed by all, and it was pleasing to see some teenagers taking part and showing great promise for the future.

I will just confirm Tommo`s thoughts. An excellent fun day, well organised, great pub, fantastic hosts & lots of nice people as well. :D Lady H & I would again like to thank Jason & Tommo for our first invites to the Limes. As you can see i`m still alive after my team had beaten Hayley`s twice in the day :-X & thanks to my 2 partners,Cherry & Claire for their company. Well done to Tommo`s team for beating teammate Kev Hall`s in the final, i think the clowns hat looked better on a couple of other competitors and we`ve got the photos just to remind Kev. :-[
As i said yesterday, an excellent competition to promote the newcomers & younger element to the game, there was certainly a few for the future there. One or two more of these throughout other counties would i think keep Bar Billiards on the map for a bit longer. Back in Wallingford, we ran the Wolfie Storch Charity pairs, which was a mixture of players/non players/newcomers and always went down well, as well as raising money for charity.
Thanks again to the Limes
Good luck to all in the County singles today ;)
