At the World Championships played on 10/11 November 2007, Gary Powell of Merstham Village Club made it to the Semi-Final.
This is the best performance by a Surrey man since Terry Oakley's triumph in 1996.
Receiving a Bye in the First round, Gary beat Tony Webster (Hants) in Round 2 and Richard Jeffrey (Sussex) in Round 3. He then overcame Chris Tupper (Sussex) in Round Four and Gareth Lloyd (Sussex) in Round Five. Kent's Mark Brewster was the victim at the Quarter-final stage, but Sussex's Jim Millward denied him the place in the Final.
Redhill Competitions Secretary Dave Jones also made it to the Last 16 stage before falling to Millward.
Young Kevin Hall (aka the BB Reaper) of South Park CC splits his allegiances between Surrey and Sussex but is a star performer for both counties. This time he managed a Quarter Final place in the World Championships to add to the Surrey County Singles title that he won in the summer.
A fourth trophy winner was Jimmy Greensted, who received a crystal decanter for the privilege of having the highest losing score of all players in the first round.

Tommo I have to agree what a performance and he deserves a big pat on the back! And to think he did this without putting a hair out of place, cool dude indeed!
