The second on the calendar of Redhill League's hosted competitive events took place today at the Frenches Club, and saw Horsham regain the Team invitation title they won the year before last.
Eight teams took part in two groups of four under standard Interleague Rules for seven-a-side. Mid Sussex took part in the event for the first time, filling the vacancy created when Brighton withdrew in advance of the competition.
Group Stages
Group One Redhill B 4, Portsmouth A 3 Worthing 3, Horsham 4 Worthing 5, Redhill B 2 Horsham 7, Portsmouth A 0 Portsmouth A 4, Worthing 3 Redhill B 1, Horsham 6
Group Two Redhill A 3, Portsmouth B 4 Mid Sussex 1, Tunbridge Wells 6 Tunbridge Wells 5, Portsmouth B 2 Mid Sussex 2, Redhill A 5 Portsmouth B 5, Mid Sussex 2 Redhill A 5, Tunbridge Wells 2
Placings:
Group One 1 Horsham 17pts 2 Worthing 11pts 3=Redhill B 7pts 3=Portsmouth A 7pts
Group Two 1=Redhill A 13pts 1=Tunbridge Wells 13pts 3 Portsmouth B 11pts 4 Mid Sussex 5pts
(Redhill A won Group Two on the tie-break basis of having been winners in the fixture when the two teams involved met earlier.)
Semi-Finals
Horsham 5, Tunbridge Wells 2
Brian Coomber lost to Pete Sainsbury; Steve King lost to Doug Phillips; Dick Dewdney beat Brian Stevens; Kevin Hall beat Martin Russell; John Slee beat Vinny Mitchell; Ricky Dewdney beat Dave Warren; Dick Cable beat Ian Wright.
Redhill A 4, Worthing 3
Dave Constable lost to Rick Cunningham; Pat Smither lost to Alan Messer; Geoff Jukes beat Bill Kerr; Gary Powell beat Arthur Brewster; Colin Robbins lost to Kevin Tunstall; Jason Wadsworth beat Tony Jenner; Paul Reece beat Mal Spier.
The FINAL
Redhill A 2, Horsham 5
Colin Robbins lost to Dick Cable; Gary Powell beat Dick Dewdney; Paul Reece lost to Kevin Hall; Geoff Jukes beat Brian Coomber; Jason Wadsworth lost to Ricky Dewdney; Dave Constable lost to Steve King; Pat Smither lost to John Slee.
Sorry no scores to hand - but the general standard of play was excellent, and one can only speculate how Portsmouth would have fared had they put all their best players together in the one team instead of opting for an even spread of ability.
For the record, the squads of the teams which failed to make it to the later stages:
Redhill B - Tony Cross,Jim Greensted, Keith Wilkinson, Kenny Wilkinson, Richard Plaw, Graham Holman, Martin Greenaway. Portsmouth A - Dave Tallack, Daniel Woolvin, Tony Webster, Richard Hockey, Barry Radford, Lee Radford, John Cole. Portsmouth B - Brian Daniels, Tony Woolvin, Chris Newson, Alan Peters, Dennis Claydon, Alan Chaloner, Joyce Mannel. Mid Sussex - Andy Farmer-Wright, Richard Jeffrey, Lorraine Hall, Graham Sparksman, Clive Thompson, Ian Giffen, Peter Edwards. An enjoyable day, well done to the organisers, and to all those who took part. Congratulations also to Horsham's Ricky Dewdney and Kevin Hall, who each managed five wins out of five on their way to a winner's medal.

Well done Horsham on winning the event - but most of all thanks to the Redhill League for a fantastic welcome and a fun day. and an even bigger thanks to the people who put the competitions together and make it all work. That includes Terry and all his helpers in the kitchen who supply the excellent menu for the day.
Long may the competition continue and also invite its' friends from the other leagues and Worthing in particular

Just like to echo what other posters have said. A very enjoyable and well organised day. Well done to Horsham for winning. Just wish I hadn't overdone it on the cheap Bombadier.
