Thank you everyone for your support this year and a special thank you to Tony Willis for his help in running the tournament. Also a big thank you to Pete & Marianne for an excellent job on the raffle. Thanks to Tookey & Milko for helping me assemble the tables in the morning.( Milko never set up the tables by the way ;D) and to Dave & Sam Alder who worked hard in transporting the tables into the hall.
We were two entries up on last year (Paying) but a little disappointed that 9 players had to drop out which couldn't be helped.
The full results will be put on the site shortly.
Here is a quick look at the winners. Winner Phil Collins R/U Steven Sheard Semi Finalist Nigel Senior..Tony Martin 1/4 Finalist Dave Ingram, Mark Brewster, Geoff Powell, Bill Kerr. Plate Winner Barry Radford Plate R/U Bert Lovegrove Men's Highest Break Phil Collins 19690 Ladies Highest Break Pauline Withey 5290 Furthest Lady.. Pauline Withey & Colleen Park
The Club is unfortunately being pulled down shortly so I don't know at the moment where next years venue is going to be.
Thank you everyone again.
Cheers Peetee

Did Colleen win her 1st Rd match to make it four ladies in the running for the trophy ? I'm lost!!! :-/

Sigh... ;D ;D
All four ladies lost in the second round but Pauline had the highest losing score amongst them. You have to apply some sort of criterion to separate them or not award 'furthest lady' at all.
cheers Tony

I'm sure it doesn't worry either Colleen or Pauline so I don't know why we're banging on about it really... ;D ;D cheers Tony

..and anyway I should have won the award as I got to Round Three and I was playing like a girl's blouse...oh! perhaps that doesn't count? ;D ;D

There is actually no need to be rude in an open discussion, Dave...
It's a moot point and we'll leave it at that.

And I feel qualified to comment after being out of pocket over a similar incident - Bucks 2007: A 'furthest lady' trophy was billed in the programme, and a very tearful Josie Pitt who'd got to the Last 16 of the Main wasn't presented with one. I felt so sorry for her that I commissioned one for her. There has to be some consistency here. In the World Championships for instance, the ladies readily accept that any high break awards are earned in the Main Competition - the Plate doesn't count for diddley. Likewise I've never heard of a Furthest Lady award in any of the Opens which I've been going to in the last 7 years going to someone in the Plate (no offence, Pauline). In this case, Colleen won a match and proceeded in the Main Competition, which none of the other ladies did. She fell at the next hurdle but didn't go into the Plate. She was therefore unequivocably Furthest Lady, and at the very least deserves an apology from the organizers. >:(

There is actually no need to be rude in an open discussion, Dave... It's a moot point and we'll leave it at that. regards Tony Please accept my apologies if my previous comments caused offence Tony.... I have now removed them as clearly I had misunderstood the basis on which the trophy for furthest lady would be awarded. Although, as pointed out by others, there are precedents that indicate that this is not usually the way in which this type of trophy is awarded, I fully accept that the tournament organisers have every right to make any decision that they feel is correct on the day.

Thank you for the gracious reply David. Please be assured that it was never out intention to upset Colleen in any way, she is a lovely person and a great supporter of bar billiards and, while I can't speak for Pete, I do offer my personal and unreserved apologies for any distress that our decision caused her. It's a steep learning curve running these competitions as you only get one shot at it each year and sometimes you have to make decisions 'on-the-fly' but please be confident that all such anomalies will be ironed out in the future.... regards Tony

I'm relieved if this one can indeed be put to bed. :)
And I realise that organizing an Open with all the effort involved can sometimes be a thankless task, and Barbelman has oft referenced Abe Lincoln's quote "You can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time." ;)

What a well discussed outcome.
Both Pauline and Coleen are great supporters and champions of Bar Billiards and both are great supporters of us as players.
Both have given me strength to win in times of doubt and both have done this even if it has meant I might play them later.
