I have been asked by Dave Alder, the AEBBA Secretary, to publish the following statement on behalf of Phil Hawkins, the AEBBA Chairman. Please post any comments under the AEBBA section.
======================================================================
Greetings to all Bar Billiards players from your All England Chairman.
Hope you are all well!
As those of you who attended the All England Bar Billiards Association Open Doubles tournament will know, we had a disaster before play even got started, all because some people decided to steal the pegs from the tables which were set out in the playing arena.
Disaster was only remedied because Dave Alder, our Secretary, managed to make up a few sets from pegs that were in the bar billiard van and a few others that were found. Other people kindly helped with arranging replacements and our thanks goes to them.
We suffered a whole lot of aggro that most of us could have done without.
Unfortunately for the perpetrators film was made available from the hotel’s CCTV cameras and we have just received it.
The CCTV pictures show Michelle Baden from Jersey and Chris Oakley from Sussex going into the hall at 5.30am, touring the tables and leaving ten minutes later carrying what appears to be the pegs.
I await the comments of our members on the consequences for the offenders.
AEBBA Chairman PHIL HAWKINS 27 March 2012
Note: The original lost pegs were discovered by Dennis Atkins in the disused snooker room late on Saturday.
