Hi Pete, please can we have the start times ? Already up there, Milko. ;D Pete had put them up on a separate thread, but it threw me too to begin with, so I've transferred it to this one for convenience.tommo

Looks like it falls to me to report early dispatches, and hope that others will fill in more informed details.
Without knowing how they finished I can tell you that the Main event final was being fought out between old mates Sir K.T and Paul Sainsbury. The Plate final was contested by Tony Martin and Martin Leach.
Qr finals (main): KT (20k) beat Steven Sheard; Richard Wooton bt Mark James; Jim Greensted bt Ian Gordon; Paul Sainsbury (19k) bt Mark Trafford. (plate): Martin Leach bt Tony Webster; Tony Jenner bt Phil Osbourne; Geoff Jukes bt Ian Lelliott; Tony Martin bt Colleen Park. Semi-finals (main): KT (15k) bt Richard Wooton (12k); Paul Sainsbury (20k) bt Jim Greensted. (plate): Martin Leach bt Tony Jenner; Tony Martin bt Geoff Jukes.
Worthy of mention is the Jim Greensted v Ian Gordon match where Ian made a complete table playout for 14k in the first leg. Most of us had written off Jim's chances as he only opened with 3k on his break game. But a second chance materialised and this time there was no mistake with a further 12k being racked up. Ian was left 600 to make up with the bar - and red ball - gone, putting a first Open Semi-Final just beyond his reach. Another player who must be pleased with his own performance must be Colin Martin, who recorded a Personal Best break of 14k+.
Many thanks to Pete Sainsbury and his team of helpers (including the excellent kitchen) for laying on this enjoyable event. The quality of the tables was as good as we have come to expect with the Kent Classic and there were several scores of around the 20k mark. And a first outing for the new table lampshades resplendent with the AEBBA logo. Excellent job there by Sav (mechanics) and anyone else involved with the painting, de-cals, etc.
A great day. 8-)

The main competition was one by Paul Sainsbury in a very close contest with Kevin Tunstall, from what I saw Paul went in with 15K in the first and Kevin ended the game with 1300. Kevin then went in with just over 15K in the second only to come off and Paul mopped up with 2000 to win the trophy for I believe the 3rd time?
Tony Martin beat Martin Leach in the final of the plate. Steven Sheard won the highest break of the day with a 21K run out against Nigel.
An excellent venue, the tables were superb, the most consistent I have seen at an open.

and Paul mopped up with 2000 to win the trophy for I believe the 3rd time? Correct, Paul was winner in 1997 and 2009 and now 2012. KT won in 1999,2006,2008 and 2010. An excellent venue, the tables were superb, the most consistent I have seen at an open. Consistently good all day. There was a 19970 break from Paul S and a 20110 break from Mark Brewster earlier in the day, and further 20ks in the later rounds of the competition. The semi-final table on which Paul made a 20k was I believe the one recently acquired by Dave Alder on behalf of the AEBBA.

Well done to Paul on winning the main, and Tony on winning the plate. Excellent day, with all tables good, well run and thanks to all those who put in the effort to make this so, including those working in the kitchen to keep us fed.

Hello all,
Just to let you know I have completed the result sheet and will send it to Nigel. An interesting fact that emerged was the number of breaks over 10k – 44 which comprised of 42 in the main competition and 2 in the plate but I am sure that a couple may have been missed. The breakdown is
5 – 20k 2 – 19k 5 – 18k 3 – 17k 3 – 16k 11 – 15k 5 – 14k 2 – 13k 1 – 12k 4 – 11k 3 – 10k
The team of people who set the tables up for me should be congratulated on such a good job.

The team of people who set the tables up for me should be congratulated on such a good job. Indeed Pete, Another statistic would be 29 breaks of 15k or more. I would be very surprised to hear of another Open when that many have been made. tommo

The tables were indeed superb, as they were the year before too. 8-)
Undoubtedly there were quite a few more breaks over 10k - I know that I counted several when I was scoring, but as it was widely known that the current high break was already much higher, I did not record these.

Ros
That is a shame as at opens we like to record all breaks over 10k. Next year I shall ensure that I make this clear.

Are there extra ranking points for breaks over 10K?

Are there extra ranking points for breaks over 10K? I think the reason for the requirement is to keep a standard format in the display after the event, as recorded within the AEBBA website. The ranking bonus is for score rather than break, and you get 0.1RP for making 5,000 in a leg, 0.2RP for 8,000, 0.3RP for 11,000 etc. tommo
