Well the Norwich Singles Final was an incredible success (Eventually) With 41 entrants it came down to the last 3 on the night of the final, with the last Semi to be played, followed by the Final. Dave Edwards playing Lee Palmer in the Semi final was epic. Best out of 5 games being the winner to go through.
With Dave E playing a great first 2 games, the first being very close in the end with 2400 points with the highest break of 1060. Lee Palmer coming so close with 2210 points, Dave potting both balls at the end, being no rebound shot
1-0 The second game, another close battle, Dave E with yet another high break of 1080 and high score of 2440, Lee P coming up very close behind but right at the wire, knocking the black peg over, there was no way back. 60 Points he finished with.
2-0 3rd Game, Either it was Lee Palmer resolving himself to defeat and relaxing or changing his choice of drink from the mass of Real Ales that the Landlord of the Kings Head, Jon Smith had on, something had to have done it because Lee P suddenly had to come back with Venom, and Venom it was!!!
2-0 Down, Lee sped up his game, which seemed to do the trick. Winning score 3310 with a highest break of 1010, was enough to up-end Daves 1750 with the highest break of the night of 1430
2-1 4th Frame another close one, with Lee winning 2100 to Daves 1320, highest break of the game goes to Dave with 1090 points.
2-2 Its deadlock!! Next Game wins and theyre both shaking at the knees, the beers ordered cigarette breaks done. Its anyones game. No real high breaks to report but close all the way through. Pins were flying everywhere, nerves were beaten down. Scores very nearly even when the bar drops, more pins knocked into next week, it finally comes to the rebound shot. Lee hits straight and true and in it goes. Coming back from 2-0 down everyone was on the edge of their seats, a mass of applause rings out, Lee sweating from every pour. Takes Dave to 3rd Place. A great game a great Semi Final.
So onto the Final
Lee plays myself an hour later after a well earned rest and refreshment. 1700 points for me, Lee unfortunately knocking a few pins giving him 570. Unfortunately no-one recording the highest breaks in the final (I think it was due to the Ale) But never the less (they weren't that high anyway!)
1-0 I take the 2nd Frame 1660 to Lees 850 both of us again thinking it was more like 10 pin bowling that 4-Pin Bar Billiards!
2-0 Always keeping in mind of Lees superb comeback in the Semi Final earlier, Im thinking... Here he goes again!! Pulling off a 2190 to my 710, I'm a stranger to the table, he hardly came off it. A great frame and really well conducted win.
2-1 More beer required I thought, hoping that'd do the trick! Again, nerves obliterated, pins doing somersaults, I eventually seemed to have made friends to the table again. Taking the game to an end with 1930 to Lees 650.
