We've bombed badly several times over the course of the season, but never more so than tonight - undoing all the good we did last week which had hoisted us into second place. Tommo is in disgrace after losing on the last ball and having two shots at it first. :-[
Plough 4, Handcross Z 1.
Geoff Parsons 8120, Johnny Haigh 400 Mark Webber 2500, MrMike007 3490 Des Gasson 3530, tommo 3390 Keith Potter 8270, Barry Timson 940 Steve Whyte 3550, Alan Downs 2690
Both Geoff and Keith laid on an exhibition of 50-hole play. Steve Whyte looked dead and buried in the last game but held his nerve to take it in one big winning break.
As usual at the Plough we were treated to some excellent food afterwards, which helped to soften the pain of defeat : A succulent cheese and bacon meatloaf, doorstep sandwiches and a choice of pickled onions graded "fierce" and "blow your head off".
Team Cup next week, followed by the last six games in the League programme, then the final two in the Charity Cup. Quite an eventful season so far.....

Brewers 2 Greyhound 3
All games going with the break on a Brewers table playing pretty well. Neil played well for the Greyhound with a 5000 score in the decider, with Andy and Jock both impressive with a big six and seven respectivley. Congratulations to Jock going off with a very impressive 6820 opening break - shame it was against me!

from Roy.... again ('bout time he posted himself??) Droops entertained Greyhound at home this week and the visiting skipper, Peter Burchell, won the first to put the league leaders in front, A swift riposte was delivered by the home captain, Andy Farmer-Wright, with a big hit to level the score. Chris Watson put Greyhound ahead again but the best score of the evening from Richard Jeffrey made it two all. All games so far had gone with the break and so it was to continue as the vastly improved Neil Burchell hit big to take the last leg and the match. Plough had won their game in hand against Kleiners earlier in the week and followed it up with a masterful display at home against the Zeds. Geoff Parsons took the first for Plough with a first class 8K+ score. Mick Holmwood replied for Zeds in the second to make it one apiece. Des Gasson regained the lead by winning a close third leg before another first rate performance from Keith Potter took the fourth with a second 8K+ and the match. They finished the evening by winning the last leg and have pushed themselves into second place. Watermill went to Hancross with just four players and came away with a hatful of points. Chris Nikolaj took the first for Watermill and John Lear replied in the second for the A Team. The visitors’ lead was restored by John Willis in the third and the winning leg by Norman Cragg in the fourth. What might they have achieved with the fifth man. They stay in fourth place in division 1 whilst their hosts slip down a place in the premier. Saints had a wish to improve on the slender lead they held in second place in division 1 and that wish was fulfilled with a sound display away to Hurst. Chris Little’s first leg win was cancelled out by Rob Hall in the second. The next three legs all went to the visitors with wins for Mick Joplin, Shaun Morris and a big hit for Matt Geal. This gives Saints a 6.1/2 point cushion and just 1.1/2 points away from the leaders. After their weekend defeat, Kleiners were looking for a good performance at home against White Horse. And they got it. Peter Edwards led from the front to put the home side ahead and was followed by a big hitting Dilly Williamson in the next. Derek Taylor made sure of the win bonus when taking the third and best score of the evening by Ted Stringer made a whitewash a good bet. Not to be however, as Ian Turner took the visiting side’s only point from the match. Bottom of the premier, Windmill, went to bottom of the league Victory, this week and came away with some much needed points. Andre Layzell took a close first game against an improving Pam Peacock followed by Janie White taking the second, Vees stooped the slide when Trevor Appleby won the third but the Windmill took the remaining legs thanks to Mike White and Steve Smith.
