The Zeds got their juggernaut rolling again with a solid team performance in the Team Cup quarterfinal at the Greyhound.
Handcross 'Z' 5, Clayton & Keymer RBL 0
Johnny Haigh 3300, Dilly Williamson 2800 Graham Daniels 8700, David Page 2270 Barry Timson 5500, Ted Stringer 2030 MrMike007 8690, Derek Taylor 2210 tommo 4480, Peter Edwards 3410
The match wasn't without incident: players 1 3 and 5 for Zeds were all heavily under the cosh before pulling their games round. Graham 'Superstar' Daniels, filling in for the night, played what can only be described as a 'John Turner' shot, miscuing wildly and the ball coming back off the far cush to touch a ball gently and hold a 3000 break. :o :o 8-) MrMike007, who has struggled to make his mark in the first half of the season, seemed perfectly at home and was doing 50/100 cuts as if he was still at home on the old Windmill Crawley table.
A pleasant evening, and thanks to the Greyhound landlady who provided food which is rare but most welcome for a Team Cup match.
So come on Q, how did your boys do ? ;)

Wow, beat the St Francis, Ian, and you won the vital game - against Shaun ! Well done. Not sure what a good draw would be now. An all-Handcross final would be a hoot. :D

Report from Roy Wells:
Last week saw the second round Cup matches played on neutral tables. The Zeds were drawn to play Kleiners at the Greyhound and their team was in great form, so much so they won the match five nil with two scores over 8K. Jonny Haigh took a close first leg before Graham Daniels put in the best score of the round (8700) to make it two nil. Barry Timson hit big in the third to claim the tie before Mick Holmwood almost matched the Daniels score (8690). Zeds skipper Clive Thompson than ran out the winner in a captains’ match in the fifth.
The A team played Saints at the Hurst Club. Paul Jobbins hit big in the first leg and was followed by Chris Kirkham to put the A team two up. Matt Geal hit the best score of the match (6780) to keep Saints in the game but the tie went Handcross’s way with a win for Ian Giffen. Despite the match being won, the last leg looked a good [edit by Q: for 'good' substitute 'interesting'] one as Chris Little (6120) ran out the winner against Bernie Lawrance (5000)
The two Handcross sides go into the semi’s draw with the Hurst Club and Greyhound who had byes.
The first Plate match was between The Watermill and The Brewers Droops played at The Windmill. The Droops proved to be too strong on the night, taking the first three legs and the match with wins for Adam Bateup, Alan Humphrey and Richard Jeffrey. A very close consolation leg went to Watermill’s Adey White before Colin Humphrey wrapped it up for the Brewers team
The horse is meant to pull the plough but it ran them over in the second match between White Horse and The Plough at The Victory. Plough took the first three legs and the match with wins for Geoff Parsons, Steve Whyte and Keith Potter. White Horse captain, Brian Coleman, got his team’s only point in the fourth before Des Gasson took the last to see his team through to the semi’s where they’ll go into the draw with The Droops, The Victory and The Windmill,
