Milko sent me a fascinating cutting from the Oxford Mail of 2003 but relating to the outstanding Oxfordshire Ladies team of 1982. Some very familiar faces there and some, sadly, no longer with us.... Attachments:

Another great picture in the Mail today featuring Roger Godfrey my old fishing buddy and bindery workmate for many years. This was taken in 1977 the year that I met my wife Lin and won my first ever singles title (Bill Deadman Cup, Summer league) against that well known player and nice guy who helps run this forum ?

Haha...not too shy Keith, I just couldn't remember although I ought to as I didn't get to many singles Finals! Some fascinating characters in that photo - Jock Rosie who I couldn't understand when he was sober let alone after a few pints of cider. Some may remember the early years of Jersey! Graham Micklewright, who ALWAYS seemed to get some strange malady (migraine/bad back/flu) as soon as it looked as though he was going to lose. Ivan Roberts who was one of the most pleasant people you could wish meet and his uncle Hughie who I remember playing a whole game at the Napier with blood pouring out of hand when he caught it on a big splinter on the ball return - he wouldn't stop though! The Reform Club was a great place to play but I remember when the table was in the 'men-only' bar, we did our bit for women's rights by insisting that our landlady Bette Thomson was allowed in to play her game for the team. We didn't normally play her but perhaps we were being a little obstreperous at the time Not long after the table was moved into the lounge bar and/or the Victorian men-only rule was changed! Happy days Tony

Pete, is this your highest ever break & score ? ...and who's that fool that lost an 8k brk Those were the days champ when we used to practice all the time...the smash and grab era .I'm not quite sure if i played out the table or i missed the last ball in the 100 pocket. Yes this was my highest score and break.....take notice everyone I'm going to start practising again . I lost twice with a score of over 19000 against two players (A) in Committee Cup and (B) Bill Moore House Cup. Do you know who they were?. Pete

I found this picture in my cuttings, so as it's nearly Christmas I thought I'd put a picture of our great friend Ray winning the Mens Individual.

Firstly it wasn't me....
I have today spoken to the sports editor and have gave me his apologies. They have now deleted this picture from their achives and promises me this won't happen again. Tookey must be famous as this has happened before lol.
Cheers Pete
