There was more than 30p put onto the price of a pint :o >:( Ooooh - like Kennington then..... ;D I agree with you Tony and as treasurer now, i will get that changed for visiting teams

Post modified to 50p. Sounds a bit more accurate :-X >:( Agree with you. The hall was free to us this year so they had to get the money back somehow... Pete IMHO i think it is quite disgusting! There was a big thing made about how they were doing a good thing by giving us the hall for free, but then they screw every single person attending the weekend by hiking the drinks prices, by about 20% :o

I mean how can you justify £1.55 for a can of coke one side of the bar and then walk in the other room and get it for £1.15! ???

Thanks for the comments Tony. For other tournament organisers, what would be of real benefit to me would be the table frame numbers. That's never going to happen Chris! ;D The point I was making is that the breaks were spread across nearly all the tables and there was only one that appeared 'tricky' and that was more to do with it's situation than it's potential. Tony It needs to happen Tony. As you have commented an awful lot of work has gone into bringing the tables up to the current standard. However problems will develop and I cannot tell which table is causing problems and deal with it unless tournament organisers tell me which table frame number gave them problems. Otherwise we will drift back to complaint after complaint again. Sav

Perhaps some small engraved plates with the table number on the front of the tables would help? As a contribution to the cause, I'll get them done if you give me the numbers. Tony

I was going to suggest a simple white adhesive label slapped on the back of each headboard...... ;D However, Tony's solution is a lot more professional, and in keeping with our trend towards the smart and chic (eg the painted lampshades with decals). 8-) 8-)

Thanks for the offer Tony
It's the nine numbers that are not termed as round legged in the national tables thread, unfortunately I have not listed the tenth which I recovered earlier.
I guess we will have to wait for Bournemouth for that one.
Sav.

Can you blame them in a recession for putting a charge on a pint?? or would you prefer to pay more for entry fees??

Can you blame them in a recession for putting a charge on a pint?? or would you prefer to pay more for entry fees?? I don't have that big a problem with putting a little on the price, but 60+p on a pint and 30p on a coke? That's out of order! In this day and age, people will be begging to have this amount of people at a venue for a whole weekend!

The prices were dreadful, i thought id gone mad when i was being charged the amount i had been! it can be pricey in there but never that much. I should of stuck with the sports bar on the other side of the club.

I (and I assume everyone else on here) don't know what the club's normal practice is with drink prices in the Function Room. I assume it will always be higher - economic reality hits bar billiards - shock horror ;D

Would I be right in thinking the other side of the bar, should have been members only, because we have a few clubs around here who have a general function room anyone can use which is dearer then the members room. That's because you obviously pay affiliation fees to the club. Don't get me wrong I understand what everyone is saying but just emphasising that they were not ripping us off, it happens everywhere. Now mark is treasurer he may be able to change that for next year.

I think that it is a shame that there is more discussion and complaints about the cost of the drinks.... rather than positive feedback about the tremendous tournament with some superb games that I remember being at. ;D
Most Clubs charge more for guests attending a function than they do to their members, surely that is one of the benefits of being a Club Member.... and to be honest the bar prices didn't seem more expensive than most of the pubs that I play in on a regular basis. ::)
My thanks again to the organisers for a great day. ;)

If I book Didcot Con Club next year am I going to be popular?? Pete I think Dave and Stephen may have answered that for you Pete ;D ;D An excellent venue and we'll find out if they did a special bar billiards supplement on the drinks because we got it free or they are their standard Function Room prices. They are very helpful people there.... Tony

BTW Mark is treasurer at another club in Oxford. cheers Tony

I think it is a great venue, the fact it's free is another bonus, if we go somewhere else and have to pay, just to get cheaper drinks, then the fees will have to go up, to make the day beneficial to the association, and we would be paying that anyway! Either way there is a cost involved, these days cost money!
Overall I think I think it was a great day, great tables and some great matches, plus I probably didn't notice the drink prices as I was still feeling rough from the builders night out previous!

Well this was the first time I have entered the Oxford open and thought it was ran extremely well. Also tables were fantastic. Certainly a tough task for all the other opens to follow. What ever the prices I was over the moon with my first semi final appearance. Must make note to myself, 450 start is not enough against Keith :o
