After a very and i mean very lucky win at the four horseshoes tonight it has come to the attention of our team and probably many others why the hell should a section 1 team give away 4 breaks in a cup match on a neutral i'm not saying this because we almost lost tonight because we where very lucky but i fail to see how premier section teams can go to a neutral venue and play lower league teams in a cup giving 4 breaks away. fair enough in the league understandable but in a cup no it should remain both teams get 2 break with the last game being equal timed regardless of the teams playing its utter rubbish i'm not trophy grabbing but the top teams want to assert themselves it needs to be changed for the knockout cups.

very true craig as a member of your team i totally agree and just think why the hell should i give up a night where i could be doing something to go and play a game on a table thats not the best and watch people that are capable of getting a very good score without getting a chance to win. not that i give a damn on whether you win or lose it would be just nice to at least be given that chance

Even as a lower league player i thimk a level playing field for a neutral table would be more reasonable, i think its more justifiable particularly when a weaker team goes to the horseshoes, but not when its a neutral table and a dodgy one (potemntially) at that.

I do not play in this league - although i may have had a team this year, but didn't see any forms, but that is another issue! Craig - did you go to the AGM to put a point across on this point? No good disagreeing if you don't go to the AGM?
Phil - to be fair, whatever the format, this could always happen, could it not ?

On reflection gents i can see both sides, i can completely understand that why theres an argument against the rule in the cup, if you are stuck on a dodgy table against the masons thats anyones game for a good chunk of teams, i think though this rule is their to prorect teams that are substantially weaker (not that there are any) against teams with some huge names in there! I dont think maybe it should be as black and white as you get so many breaks because you are such and such, because i believe we had this issue with the portcullis last year. And an eexception was made. Maybe we need to have a small rethink next year. Im sitting on the fence here ;D

to be fair mark up until a few weeks before the season started i might not even have played in the league and when we turned up and knew this was the format then i was quite happy to get beat 3-0 and then we could go home. maybe my attitudes wrong but bar billiards isn't the only thing in my life at the moment

I am going to remain calm on this thread unlike some of the previous comments!
There has not been a rule change the knock out cup was run the same way last year. As always comments are appreciated and recommendations welcomed but as far as I am concerned if people do not turn up at the AGM how can they expect to get their point across and raise issues that they have, the only people who attended the last AGM where those members of the committee.
The simple fact is that people continue to moan about this and that and never actually turn up at the appropriate time to voice their opinions or try to make a difference it is far easier to just moan about it.
To be honest I have just about had enough of this most thankless of tasks and if someone else wants to take their turn then by all means come along to the next committee meeting. I am quite happy to resign as secretary and then they can take over with immediate effect or with a handover during September and October if they would rather.
The next meeting was due to be on 3/10 but given the late withdrawl of the Horse and Harrow team and the prospect of the remaining players joining the Didcot Con Club A I have been trying to rearrange this meeting for next Thursday 27/9 but unfortunately as this clashes with the oxford league this now seems unlikely (it doesn't seem to matter arranging games for Mondays on a Wallingford League night) but hey ho!
The simple fact is everyone moans about something but no-one wants to do anything so here is your chance if you want it replace me at the next meeting I will publish the date of the meeting on here as soon as I have a suitable date from Dave Tooke.

Well you played in the league last year, you knew the rules. Why didn't you propose it at the AGM?

It is the same playing format as last year ,and 2 section 1 teams made the final If you take away the 4 breaks from a section 2 team in the final that would give the advantage to the better players from section 1 The 4 break rule is there to help the weaker section 2 player in both cup and league but in most cases the section 1 teams still manage to win .

There are 2 matches to be played this evening in the knock out cup:
The 4 Horseshoes v The Didcot Con Club A @ The Pack Saddle The Marlborough Club v The Pack Saddle @ the Gladiators
None of the teams will benefit from the 4 break rule tonight with the order of breaks to be decided by a toss of a coin with the 5th game a timed break game if required.
Good Luck
