I will post this one here although it really belongs to Series 1, as our scheduled one, home to Horsham on 18/19 February, has been called off by Horsham.
(played at the Old Oak, Meadvale on Sunday 11th Feb)
Redhill A 2, Brighton A 5
Geoff Jukes 12,070, Chris Tupper 1310
Jason Wadsworth 2160, Gareth Lloyd 10,340
Gary Powell BP, Glen Chubb 3970
Colin Robbins 3790, Steve Mariner 7370
Dave Constable 280, Nigel Senior 13,750
Laurie Roberts 8920, Richard Wooton 4940
Paul Reece 0, Chris Reeves 8190
As is often the case, the scores do not give the full picture, so here's how the drama unfolded.
Game 1. Jukesey with home break kicked off with a safe 9k which gave Tupps no chance;
Game 2. Lloydy did the same back to Jason Wadsworth.
Game 3. Often an indication of which way the match is going to go. Chubbster had 6k going when his ball whipped the 100 hole unusually on to the left hand peg. Gary had two unsuccessful attempts to get them back, and on his third visit Chubbster ran up a quickfire 3970. Gary almost achieved the impossible as he was within 600 when the bar dropped, to the background of wholesale watch checking and tapping from the Brighton contingency: it had seemed to overrun by a minute compared to the previous game. Gary soldiered on, and had a shot at the 200 to win but heartbreakingly felled the black peg.
Game 4. Robbo hung in well for a 3k opening break, despite going out of position several times. But once Mario got the break back he didn't look like missing - and in fact didn't. 3-1 to Brighton
Game 5. Nigel, no doubt smarting after a singles defeat in Worthing earlier in the evening, had saved it all up for this game and made the match safe with a chanceless 13k. 4-1 to Brighton.
Game 6. Nothing to play for, really, but Richard only went away with 1200 and Laurie's reply was 8920. Richard managed a quickfire 3740 in the three minutes left.
Game 7. In different circumstances this could have been the showpiece of the evening: Paul Reece with the break had just reached 7k when he suffered exactly the same fate as Chubbster in his opening break, whipping on to the left hand peg. It is likely that one more k may have done it, as FeedtheGoat got the balls back straight away and didn't hang about in replying with a held break of 8k.
The Oak table is high-scoring, but requires a certain amount of care. Brighton proved they were better able to cope with these conditions, so well done to them.
