Ok guys, bit of an odd question, but ive been asked by the landlords of the pubs who are doing the bar. They are mostly Real Ale pubs and the majority of the beer will be that and Cider, but how many that are coming are Ale drinkers? Obviously dont want to bring too much but then certainly dont want to bring not enough! As a gauge, what has been the norm at other tournaments? Ale? Lager? Wine? Shorts? There will be teas and coffees etc there aswell but just want to know how many will be drinking? I mean when we play, our guys are big drinkers but obviously not unruley, just good fun. Any advice would be very grateful. Thanks I can only speak on behalf of the Surrey contingent (of two), but we are cider drinkers and probably won't overdo the drinking on the day as one of us is driving. We did however like the idea of the discount vouchers in the programme and will probably be using these in a mini-crawl of your four league venues on the Sunday night. 8-)

Looks like the draw has worked out well with not too many players from the same league playing each other.
I've found an old bottle of pernod that I'll bring along as a raffle prize although I thought pernod was sposed to be a yellow colour, this is more a dark brown, but it is about 15 years old :P

Hi CARL
Looks like i've got 1 of the 2% to play and really looking forward to it... have to say a great WELL DONE to you for coming up with the 4 pin comp idea and seeing it through to the current position, (hope you've thought about asteroid collision insurance 8-)) Also have to say WELL DONE to the proboards which has enabled contact and discussions conference style to help you on your way....with the added help of some positive thinking contributors.

A big thumbs up from us too, and 10 pages on this thread testifies to the amount of work needed to get this off the ground.
Well done, Carl, we're really looking forward to it. All that's needed now is for you to arrange for some nice sunshine later this month. ;) 8-) 8-)

bye the way I dont drink that gassy lager stuff, real ale for me and I dont mean IPA ;p
do you have a guesstimate of a finish time? as I have rethunked my plans and I wont be on callout on the saturday but looks like i may be working on the sunday so it may be easier to come up by train for the day, the price of a return ticket is less than the cost in fuel plus I can have a drink or three or more :D
I imagine I will be knocked out in the first round but it would be nice to stay and see the finish but it looks like I need to catch a 19-05 train from Norwich to get me back into Sudbury in time for a last pint.
Does anyone have a cue I can borrow?

But as we're doing the plate aswell, we're apparently looking at a 10.30pm finish providing things run relatively smoothly. But if anyone has any better experience then please speak up :-)

Oh and we "should" have a couple of spare cues to use, not sure if the tables come with any?

But if anyone has any better experience then please speak up :-) Not sure where you have heard that from Carl.... would suggest that this is probably more likely:- Assuming you are starting at 11am and using 8 tables, with each match in the Main and Plate Competitions being played over 2 legs with each player having the break in one of the games.... Main Competition of 64 players, players losing in First Round to go into Plate Competition. Main Competition - Round 1 (64 players) 11.00 Series 1 (8 matches, 16 players) 11.45 Series 2 (8 matches, 16 players) 12.30 Series 3 (8 matches, 16 players) 13.15 Series 4 (8 matches, 16 players) Main Competition - Round 2 (32 winners from Round 1) 14.00 Series 5 (8 Matches, 16 players) 14.45 Series 6 (8 Matches, 16 players) Plate Competition - Round 1 (32 losers from Round 1 of Main Competition) 15.30 Plate Series 1 (8 Matches, 16 players) 16.15 Plate Series 2 (8 Matches, 16 players) Main Competition - Round 3 (16 winners from Round 2) 17.00 Series 7 (8 Matches, 16 players) Plate Competition - Round 2 (16 winners from Plate Round 1) 17.45 Plate Series 3 (8 matches, 16 players) Quarter-Finals - Main & Plate Competitions 18.30 Main Series 8 (4 matches, 8 players) & Plate Series 4 (4 matches, 8 players) Semi-Finals - Main & Plate Competitions 19.15 Main Series 9 (2 matches, 4 players) & Plate Series 5 (2 matches, 4 players) Finals - Main & Plate Competition 20.00 Main & Plate Finals (2 matches, 4 players) By allowing 45 minutes for each series of game you should find it reasonably easy to stick to the schedule, providing you can find scorers promptly for each match. These timing normally allow you to get slightly ahead of schedule and have time to hold a raffle, which is useful while the organisers work out the tables to be used for the semi-finals and final as it is always best to play these on a table that neither of the players have played during the course of the day so it is truly "neutral" for both players. ;) If you need any help with a table schedule, let me know and I will happily send you something as I have formats for most types of competitions already. ;D

Myself and Stevie A had our first 4 pin game, on our three pin table (only had 3 pins so had to use a lump of chalk as forth pin)
Stevie A had a 300 lead with final ball remaining.... I sank it in the 200 hole to take the win :)

Nice thought Tommo but I think BB Warrior is thinking more along the right lines.
grrr by taking the last train it means I have to wait at the Marks tey station for over half an hour and all there is there is a poxy platform, I dont there is even a waiting room and to make things worse its only a 20 min drive back to my house :(

It takes around 20-25 mins to briskly walk from the venue to the train station (5 minute taxi which is about a fiver(ish))

Tournament schedule has been very kindly done! Thank you so much for that Nigel, lifesaver!! :) I have attached it to this message so hope everyone can read it. Just a quick note as I'm rushing to write this, things to do regarding beer today!! ;D Everyone that is scheduled to play at 11.00am (First game of the tournament) Please could you be there and ready to play asap (10.45am). This is because (as ive said before) the Weightwatchers group have the hall booked until 11.00am so its going to have to be a very quick turn around for us, we don't want to get behind schedule too much. So to get the games started as close to 11.00 as possible but not to rush anyone at the same time, is going to be a bit of a task. Also could I ask everyone not playing the first game to try and come to the venue a little later on, just so we can have time to get things sorted, don't really want to have massive rush of people at the start, trying to get in whilst the other group are coming out, we'll be stocking the kitchen, getting the bar sorted, setting up the tables etc for greeting people etc. Id be most grateful for a steady flow of people coming in. Many Thanks for your co-operation, again, the only reason this is so close to the other groups booking is because the Silver Rooms have been put up for sale and this was a last minute booking for the hall so I can only apologise on behalf of the lovely LOVELY!!!!! County Council.... ;D I'm sure it'll be alright on the night... Thank you all again SO SO much for everyones help with all of this, I cant thank you enough Kindest Regards Carl Attachments:

All being well I'll try to be there by 11 with my white gloves. I've got more physio tonight so fingers crossed Are you doing the raffle to help fund the open or to raise money for charity? Just don't wanna donate my dodgy pernod to charity so might have to buy something else instead, I'll look in the 99p shop later

Hahaha! Yes mate, if you google map "Magdalene Street, Norwich" that street is full of them. And just happens to be on the same street as The Kings Head, one of our Bar Billiard venues. Theyre all good but The Spice Lounge, Ali Tandori, Passage to India are recommended. We're having a mild chilli at the venue which is cheap enough though!! :-D

Well, less than a week now and it's upon us. Carl has everything under control, but I have a couple of final points for consideration - by way of crossing the eyes and dotting the tees if you like. ;D 1. Public address system. If you have one, great - makes life easy for the Controller. If not, no worries, apart from how you ensure all competitors are at their table and ready to start - all together - at the allotted time. Best idea is to make the requirement that all players check in with you at the Admin Desk 15 minutes before they are due to start, so that you 'have them on standby'.2. Appoint a "Runner". You will find it useful to appoint a diligent person to run round and get the scores/results after each set of matches is played. The system which seems to work at all opens is for simple result slips to be given out (by your Runner) as the games start. Something like this: Player 1 | Game 1 | Game 2 | Total | Player 2 | Game 1 | Game 2 | Total |
It is then up to the scorer at each table to fill in the slips, and up to the Runner to collect and return them to the Admin Desk. Sorry if I did not need to make any mention of this, but "belt and braces" and all that! ;D ;D tommo

Post by daveuk1 on Mar 17, 2013 15:33:47 GMT
lol we will all (or at least I will) need more than belt and braces if I'm gonna be a runner, trust me that the sight of me doing a Penguins walk with my trousers around my ankles is not a nice sight and they fall down if i start running.
Did anyone ever decide how a drawn match would be decided?
