While travelling back from visiting a customer near Hailsham this afternoon, I had the "pleasure" of being caught in the roadworks on the A271 near Horsebridge.... ....while waiting in the ever-increasing queue in the direction that I was heading (with hardly any traffic coming the other way - as usual!) I noticed Gandalf was among the people working at the site, although "working" is perhaps not quite accurate as he (and most of the rest of the workmen) seemed to be stading around chatting while one man was actually doing some work and driving one of the lorries around.... normal roadworks then!! Eventually we started to move and, as I went past I hooted and waved at him.... no response at all came in my direction.... .... however I couldn't help but notice the 4 traffic cones next to him that seemed to have been arranged in a nice diamond shaped formation to protect a hole in the road.... which immediately made me think of format of the game that he seems to enjoy playing so much nowadays! Perhaps all the workmen get some practice in while they are working - that would explain why I always get delayed so long!!

It was me, sadly the site was not ready for us, I've been developing my doing nothing technique for 16 years, will be doing the same Sat AND Sunday at Hailsham together with my bowls club finals day and a kent inter league match in the evening. I'm getting a bit worried for you BBW you're seeing 4 pin everywhere you look, perhaps its time to borrow Tommos nurse to up your current medication regime anyway sorry I missed your toot regs cs

He should give up trying to squeeze two balls round the 50 toadstools, and just knock a ball down to the 10 hole. LOL

Will post an entry form shortly draw and last date for entry will be 24th May regs cs

I've never heard of anyone splitting a one-day competition around multiple venues before: If it were hosted at the Hospital Club as a single venue where all games could be witnessed by all competitors then that would be different. The schedule I worked out for my own mini-Open (which sadly won't now happen) was for 30 players on three five * tables - but all at a single venue ! Regards, tommo * [edited - whoops !]

Hi tommo
We will have 3 tables at the hospital, I didn't think we would have enough time for a round robin , please send me your schedule and I will be pleased to forward it to the league for approval, I'm sure we would all like a single venue event Regs cs

Hi Gandalf, I have just sent you a separate eMail with my draft schedule - which will only have limited usefulness for you !
My plan was to hire 4 tables from Tarratt and charge a £10 entry fee. Prize money would have totalled £100 and the balance of income would have covered the cost of the hire. Our own table would have been used as a fifth table.
My competition would have run from 10am to 7pm (incl. presentations) but also provisioned for a Plate competition. So if you have 3 tables you may be able to have a dabble and re-jig things by excluding the Plate.
But you must do what is best for your own League, and giving patronage to your Eastbourne venues may well be the best way forward.
Rgds, tommo

Thanks for your input Tommo, we were aiming to have a comp which lasts about 5 hours, this is mainly to keep it fun for all players and retaining enough interest in the Eastbourne handicap and finals comps the following day.
The final format of the 4 pin will be agreed depending on the number of entrants, I hope we will see a few from Horsham making the trip, if it's only say 21 (a lot more likely than the target of 30) then I think a single venue with 3 tables can work

we are pleased to have had the ok from the Bull Henfield to have 2 teams playing in the crawley 4 pin summer league this year. let me know if any of you fancy a go, we would love slip a few newbies into the lineup, might give the rest of the teams a chance to catch Eastbourne up and to teach some of you 3 pinners the benefits of 4 pin, might even get Ozzie senior to chance his arm a few times onward and upward Hope an interleague return is on at a crawley venue this year regs cs
