Well done Nigel and Richard, and of course to Dave for his first 20k break, its been a long time coming!
Great weekend, food was lovely, drinks well priced indeed and it was well organised so thanks to Sav, Dave, Chrissie & all others. No drama this year so its nice to reflect positively.
EDIT: I can't say I agree with our room being too hot so must have been a certain area? The BB room was the only thing I found to be hot but obviously there was up to 100 people in there at times!

Fantastic weekend down in Bournemouth..... ;D Firstly, many thanks to all involved with the organisation and running of the competition, especially Sav, Chrissie and Dave Alder who all put so much effort into making sure that we all enjoyed ourselves and the competition ran so smoothly with the tables all playing very well. 8-) Thanks also to the Queens Hotel for their hospitality.... food was excellent this year and service from the staff was both quick and friendly with nothing seeming to be too much trouble. ;D ;D Congratulations to Richard and Nigel for winning the AEBBA Pairs this year, Nigel did most of the hard work in the final itself but both of them had played superbly all weekend and were worthy winners.... their win means that Richard currently holds all 3 of the Open Pairs titles.... :o ....available having won the Guernsey Pairs last year with Nigel and, of course, the World Pairs title with Gareth last November. 8-) Commiserations to Steven Sheard and Pete Phillips who were the beaten finalists this time in a year when there were lots of surprises in the early rounds.... I wonder if anybody would have predicted that last years overall winners, Phil and Leon, would end up winning the Plate Competition this year after beating Paul and Bernie in the Final and last years runners-up Jon and Tony in the semi-finals, think there would have been some good odds on that sort of line up in the Plate! :o :D For me personally it was a memorable weekend.... we won the quiz and Colleen got 2nd prize in the Card Bingo as well.... :D .... oh, and this.... BBW gets his first 20k but loses Crikey ! What a bittersweet situation. Well done to BBW, a Sussex 20k t-shirt beckons ! 8-) .... although my 21.7k was not enough to catch the 24k deficit that I faced in the last leg of the semi-finals after Steven had hit two fantastic back-to-back near table play-outs of his own to overturn the 8k lead that we had taken after the first game.... now I just hope that the t-shirt comes in 2XL sizes! ::) ;D ;D ;D As always, great to see everybody and a wonderful atmosphere at the hotel all weekend.... 8-)

May I add my thanks to all that were involved, especially the two Chris's, Dave Alder, and all of the other organisers for what was a fantastic weekend. Everything about it was great from the food, to the service, to the tables etc. I would put one request in for next year that someone slips something into my drink that makes me play a little bit better. A final thanks to Dave for carrying us through to the semi finals and for all the free ranking points he earnt me! Congrats on the 20k break as well (thief!).

Congrats on the 20k break as well (thief!).XD To briefly explain the last (thief) comment.... H is referring to the "20k Trophy" that is awarded to Sussex Players fo the first time that they get a competitive 20k break and the trophy is usually awarded at the end of season Presentation Night for the League that player normally plays in, the player then keeps the trophy until the next time a Sussex player achieves this milestone.... 8-) The previous winner (Kevin Hall) has had the trophy for nearly 4 years since his 20k break against SirKT at the Sussex Open in June 2009.... :D .... H made his 20k last December but now has to pass it on to me.... ;D ;D .... BEFORE he has officially even been awarded it!! :o I suppose that I might let H keep the trophy for a couple of weeks.... between the Worthing and Brighton Presentation nights anyway.... ::) :P ;D

Reckon the 20k trophy will be presented at Lewes finals night as you both play for that league. You can then fight over who has the trophy for the first 6 months and who has it for the 2nd 6 months. That's if no- one else gets one. And you can keep swapping it every 6 months if no-one else gets a 20k

Shouldn't it be presented at their presentation night? Dave can then chose if he wants his at same time or at Brightons.

Well done Nigel & Richard on your win and unlucky to Steven & Pete.
You both deserved to be in the final after some excellent play over the two days (especially Nigel & Steven), although if Bob A had kept a 3k brk in the Q/F then S & P would not have made it.
Congratulations to Dave on his first 20k and I'm sure there will be more to come as he's been in tremendous form of late.
Regarding the hotel I would have to have a couple of moans. Firstly the room was unbelievably too hot even though we turned the radiator off in the room. We also kept hearing a loud bang at times outside which sounded worse because we had to have the window open due to the heat, that turned out to be the metal ramp outside the main door! Otherwise I would say that the hotel was excellent with the service and food in the restaurant being first class.
Thanks to Sav & Chris for organising the event and to Dave on running the tournament so well.
On a personal note I was very pleased to make the Semis partnering Pauline but we were completely annihilated against Nigel & Richard losing 3-0 and with an agg of about 52,000-1,000 on table 8 (no blame on Pauline as she didn't have her break game)

Now wait for this Keith, as it may be a first :o
I totally agree with you the rooms were far too hot, even with the radiator off and that has been passed back.
I agree the service in terms of meals and the quality was outstanding. Oh no two things we agree on :o
and the noise, which I also heard, glad you cleared up the mystery, so that's three in a row ::)
OMG what next ;D ;D :-*

I also agree that the rooms were far too hot and the rest of the hotel was too warm for me as well. But the food was superb and service throughout the hotel was first class.
I'm also grateful to Keith for clearing up the mystery of the noise: it woke me up at about 1.30am on Sunday morning and sounded like an old fashioned metal dustbin being kicked over.
It was a fantastic tournament, played on great tables. Many thanks to all the organisers and helpers.
BTW Sav, you have deducted 90% of Ron's and my total in the second round. :'(
Congrats to Nigel and Richard, who played consistently well to deserve the win. Congrats also to Dave for his first 20k.

I forgot to add in my post that I thought the presentation was a bit tedious in that only 3 out of 32 players who reached the last 16 were there to pick up their mementos. :o I think the word "Gone" was said more times than I care to remember. So I think for next year trophies/mementos should only be awarded down to the quarter finals, unless we get double the entrants next year!
Just my opinion.

Partly my fault there through inexperience, in that it was never announced that trophies were going to be awarded down to the last sixteen.
Also, with hindsight, the trophies should have been on display on Saturday.
We were probably a bit paranoid about things going missing after last and other years.
