Quick update on all things York-related: With the current season hitting the halfway mark the Ackhorne are the team to beat: yorkbarbilliards.altervista.org/ It's been brilliant to get playing again after all this time, and it feels like there's a real buzz around the York league again. Speaking of which, the table that used to be in the Fulford Arms is going to be installed in Castle Snooker Club this week: castlesnooker.com/ Hopefully the club will get a team together to join the league next season. And we've now agreed a date and venue for the UK-wide challenger cup for players ranked outside the top 250, to follow up the 2019 competition. It'll be on Saturday 20th August, at the Crescent Club in York. Curt and Nigel will be kindly helping us out with the organisation - providing the tables and helping with the set-up and running of the event. We're already recruiting entrants, and hoping to use the proboards to keep a log of entrant names. If someone could advise me on the best place to set up a new thread about this I'll happily get this sorted. It would be great if you guys could also spread the word about the competition further afield. Anyone interested in registering can email us at yorkbarbilliards@gmail.com to sign up. Cheers, Michael I have also posted this on the British Bar Billiards group on Facebook

I forgot to mention there's also been another recent regional addition: Brass Castle Taphouse in Malton now has a table, which I'm told is very nice. The address is 10 Yorkersgate, Malton YO17 7AB. brasscastle.co.uk/taphouse-bar-malton/Hoping to arrange a Yorkies day out there some time over the summer...

Hi folks, quick update from up north - the York league's still going strong, with the 2024 season now well under way, and 9 teams involved this time round: yorkbarbilliards.altervista.org/ We've also managed to get a new team going at Walmgate Ale House, which is currently listed as a non-league venue on the bar billiards map. They're only playing in our team cup this season, but will hopefully re-join the league proper next season. In a surprising turn of events, the Ale House's bar billiards table also recently turned up on the YouTube channel of a Hong Kong-based 'influencer' who has 143k subscribers. Mike the owner teaches her the basics of the game from around 5mins 30secs in: Whether or not this will be remembered as the moment the game broke into a major new market, only time will tell.....
