Firstly I'm soooo happy to have found this forum. I bought my bar billiards table on e-bay a month ago and am over the moon. Have been playing every evening with the next door neighbour and we are totally hooked!
My question relates to the scoreboard that came with it. It does not have a number seven anywhere on it. I'm sure you know what I mean 60 jumps to 80, 600 jumps to 800 and so on. I remember this being the case as well on the pub scoreboard I played on over 20 years ago. Anyone know why?
Cheers Drum

Well, Drum, First of all, good to hear from a new 'convert' to our noble game, and glad that you're pleased with your table.
I can't find any reference anywhere to a "fear of the number 7", so can only presume that the chap who sold it to you suffers from "hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia" - which is the fear of 666, is that close enough ? ;D
Seriously, you can go to most stationery shops and get packets of gold numbering, to repair your scoreboard. My own scoreboard only goes up to 9's so I added gold 10's on to the ends of the thousand sections - purely for my own convenience.
Are there any local pubs in your locality where you can try out your newly-acquired skills ?

Thanks guys. But the bizarre thing is that its not that someone has left a gap where the numbers should be or rubbed them away, they just aren't there. The scoreboard has been made that way as though there is a rule that says you can never have any score with the number 7 in it. We usually put the pointer in the tiny gap between the numbers 60 and 80 but it is weird... Anyone else with an idea? Cheers Drum.

I'm supposed to be the oracle on tables!! Sav. Don't tempt me.......I wish you had worded that better Sav ;D ;D Welcome Drum I too haven't seen a scoreboard without the space for a 7, out of interest does that apply to all the 7's ? (i.e. 70, 700, 7,000), and can only assume that it was done by someone with supersticious nature (or they couldn't count ::)).

Sorry. Been away and only just got back to check my messages.
Yes it is all the 70s, 700s etc missing. I would agree that this is an anomoly were it not for the fact that I distinctly remember this being a feature of the scoreboard at my local about 20 something years ago. My mate who plays with me swears he remembers a similar thing when he first started playing.
Maybe I should go back to my old haunting ground and see if the BB table (and scoreboard) are still there.
Cheers D

Drum
Bet it was dependant on how many drinks you had, 7 drinks means you can't see the sevens ;D which is probably why there are so many BB players who refuse to score because they can't see half the scoreboard most of the time ;D ;D especially in Northants ;D ;D ;D
