I notice we no longer have the ability to choose whether we see most recent posts below Sub-Board headings within each Board area. This was a useful function to me, switched ON, so wondered if it is possible to reinstate it ? although not urgent :) Where was that choice made please Graham? Used to have the choice in our (combined) Profile, and would expect it now to be in /edit profile/settings

Have to say that I am not a fan of the new format so far.... it seems much slower than the old one and harder to find things as some of the old features appear to be missing.

I would be interested to know what these features are Dave, as Im certain they can be put back. There are also a whole load of new features designed specifically to make it easier to find things. Also bear in mind, the layout so to speak can be tweeked or changed after user feedback over time. As for the speed, I have noticed it working much faster, so I find that interesting. One thing I noticed on the test forum is that it does work slower with old browsers. So I would make sure you are using the most current version of whatever browser you are using.

Just a thought for anyone reading with regards to the speed of the site. There seems to be a fair am ount of Jarvacript being used now (most notably the next page bar at the top of the screen) so it's always worth making sure thats up to date.

Is there any way to reduce the on screen size everything seems to be extra large so only see a couple of posts so am scrolling a lot more than before. Is there a setting in the profile I'm missing or is just the way that V5 is now ?

Interesting,
I believe standard font size can be reduced, and cell padding etc can also be reduced. There are a ton of settings for forum administrators to play around with so keep the faith.

I may have missed the point but try using Control & - (minus) together to make smaller
and Control & + (plus) together to make larger
ie Hold Control then push the + or - buttons

I'm away on a biking long weekend this weekend and will have time to take a closer look at problems next week.

There is no toolbar at the bottom of a page of posts on a thread to tell you that there is another page: I find myself having to scroll back up to the top of the page to check if there is another one. I'm sure we had toolbars top and bottom on the earlier version.

Tommo it's still there. It's a little overlay at the top of the screen, it should appear no matter where you are on the string of posts.

The Font size is fine it's the amount of wasted space on each post that makes it seem extra large & only displays a couple of posts on screen = more scrolling. Ctrl minus only makes the text smaller and harder to read.

Tommo if you click the setting wheel on the right hand side next to the thumb you will get post options select "back to top" no need to scroll

Funny how the subconscious works - I had spotted that earlier put put it down as a 'nuisance' addition as it goes up to about 30 for 'recent posts' - so had trained my mind not to look at it again !

Not sure if anyone has noticed yet but avatars can now be 150 x 150 pixels (as opposed to the 100 x 100 on V.4)

Don't quote me on it though as I'm iom wrong I'll get a slap from the mods lol

All of that is controllable with a central style-sheet, but I am very rusty in that area and will need to get back up to speed so bear with me.
I am going to start a temporary sub-board to deal with version five problems as this thread is impossibly jumbled.
Please post in new threads there rather than continue this thread

Okay Sav, I see you've created the sub-board and I've done the spadework to enable the exercise to get under way......
The following threads have been opened on the new sub-board:
1. Avatars. 2. Background (skin). 3. Adding a Table. 4. Search facility - resolved. 5. Inserting a picture - resolved. 6. Navigation buttons - resolved. 7. Speed in loading. 8. Loss of rapid links and members' locations. 9. Page size/font size/cell padding.
Every message on this thread has been allocated to one of the above by means of a quote. Some issues have already been resolved and will not require further comment.
This will enable you to lock this thread and address the problems per se. Hope this meets with your approval.
Regards, tommo

Added a SpellChecker module, but the only one available is American English.
May be of some use.

[edit] First use requires allowing a popup for the checker, make sure you copy your text before doing this as my window got wiped.

Removed the Legend Bar which was irrelevant on this forum.
Removed the conversion problems board as conversion is as close to what we had as is possible, just search exclusion of non topic boards to be added.

Have excluded the Test Board & Quizzes Board from both recent posts and recent threads.
That concludes the final cog of the conversion process.
