This was the line-up for the last eight of the main competition as known, tommo having to make a dash for the bus.....
Lee Radford v Barry Radford Stephen Coleman v Steven Sheard Tony Cross v Dave Reeves Leon Beer v Dave Ingram.
Some highlights: Auntie Pauline in Last 16. Local player Steve Eely in Last 16. Magnificent 19820 break by BB Warrior in last 16 round.
And as I left, FastTrackPhil and Nigel were back to back and going great guns in the Plate !
Good to spectate.

Congratulations to Stephen Coleman who won the Sussex Open today, beating Tony Cross in the final. Lee Radford and Dave Ingram were the losing semi-finalist, with me winning the high break award for the break shown above and Pauline Withey winning the Ladies High Break with a 7k plus break. 8-) Nigel Senior won the Plate Competition, running the table out in the final for just over 20k which proved enough to beat Phil Collins. ;) A huge vote of thanks to Jean and Alan for all their hard work organising and running the competition, also to all of the people involved in setting the tables up and also to Mark and Ian for delivering them. ;D

Great to see two talented youngsters (Stephen and Lee) do so well - great careers ahead for both. Crossey makes Surrey's best showing since Terry Oakley won Jersey. And me old mate the Warrior comes close yet again - only a matter of time now. 8-) Congratulations to all !

Thanks everyone, still a bit shocked to be honest! Great to see Northants starting to perform on the national scene, there has been a Northants player in one final in each open this year so far (plate or main) which is great! I was having a discussion with my dad saying I will have to get it engraved as St Coleman just incase he wins it!

A great days Bar Billiards all round, excellent venue, superbly run day by Jean and Alan, great food from Colin, very pleasant bar staff and excellent tables make this a must attend event on the calendar!
Its great to see such a thoroughly nice young unassuming player win his first Open, I am sure it won't be his last, he shows great maturity for his age and a lack of nerves. Another in the mould of Steven Sheard I believe, whom he beat on the way to this title. :)
Excellent victory for Stephen in the main and Nigel in the plate, some small consolation that I was beaten by both winners on the day! :) :)
It gives us all hope and belief that we can all attain the same level of achievement, if only we can stop making stupid mistakes which seem to occur every now and then ::)
This is a question for Nigel, Is Stephen the lowest ranked winner of an Open? He was telling me before he beat me in the first round that we were ranked the same at 84? He won't be that low now!

A big well done to Stephen. I somewhat feel like I've been leapfrogged - been trying to win an open for a long time and failed spectacularly to even come close yesterday. Nonetheless it's reassuring to see an even younger newer player do the business. I raise my glass to you, well done! Also a big Thankyou to jean and Alan and everyone involved for yet another exemplary Sussex weekend.

This is a question for Nigel, Is Stephen the lowest ranked winner of an Open? He was telling me before he beat me in the first round that we were ranked the same at 84? He won't be that low now! I will do my beat to answer this question Colin .... Stephen was ranked 86 before the open yesterday and as it is his first attempt at Sussex I believe he now is the only player with a 100% win rate at the Sussex Open and he should be just inside the top 50 when the next rankings are published - and I would also like to add my congratulations to him! In fact his opponent Tony Cross was ranked only 139 before yesterday! Your dad may be considered as the most recent low ranked winner but he was ranked 27 when he won the Oxon Open 2009. Jersey winners can be low ranked if they are Jersey players, and I found Graeme Le Monnier was ranked 78 when he won in 2005, Peter Noel was 40 in 1999, and Terry Oakley was ranked 43 in 1996. There are other low ranked winners however and I found 4 that were outside the top 100 when they won. Brian Daniels won the 2006 alternatvie rules ranked 138. The Kent and and Oxon opens have thrown up the other lower ranked winners. The 1995 Kent Open was won by Andy Harcourt who was only ranked 132, but Mick Nichol who won the 1993 Kent Open was only ranked 243 with 0.5 ranking points to his name at that point but perhaps the anomaly is that the ranking only started in 1991 and it was yet to complete a 3 year cycle . Ian Moquet was only ranked 217 when he won the 2000 Oxon open against Mark Sawyer - a win that moved him up to 61st. Not sure if there are any other winners that would be worth checking, if anyone can think of any let me know....

Not sure if there are any other winners that would be worth checking, if anyone can think of any let me know.... Tony Woolvin of Hants was a recent one, ranked I think 54th at the time of winning the 2011 Kent Classic - against the completely unranked Lorin Clough ! :D

Now that I’m back from my hol’s I would also like to congratulate young Stephen on his tremendous achievement of winning what I consider the best Open and hardest to win....well done Stephen 8-).
As usual I thoroughly enjoyed the whole W/E watching the Masters and International on the Saturday and playing in this Open on the Sunday.
Well done also to Jean and Alan who again ran the show brilliantly and thank you for inviting me to present the prizes at the end 8-).
Keith
(Note to self, check the scores when the bar goes because it can be closer than you think :o) As I lost to Leon by a small 90 after coming back with a 3,000 brk but didn’t bother checking because I thought I was further behind than it actually was!..... :-[
