The main reason the Open is always on a Saturday is to accommodate the Inter Area 7,s on the Sunday. I being County Secretary hire 9 table @ £52 each for the weekend this way the County Association can support the Inter Area who have the tables free of charge next day.Without this help the Inter Area probably couldn't afford to run this event unless they had sponsors which are getting harder to find. Regarding Didcot Con Club...what is the problem.Hire for both days FOC Drinks will be at club prices plenty of parking good food. The only moan last year was the bar prices which is now been sorted. Didcot is closer than Kent,Surrey,Sussex,Bucks etc :)
Can't please everyone but I always try. Pete

It is a shame that it cant be swapped, I only have the option of 2 Opens each year now, Jersey (which has been killed by the closure of Plymouth airport) and Oxford, trouble is that I can NEVER do a Saturday event (Jersey being the ONLY exception) so therefore until I retire my options are somewhat limited, if Oxford was on a Sunday I would probably make the (very long) trip to attend.

why cant the inter area 7 ,s be on the Saturday ? I think all that Sean is asking is why the Oxford Open is run the opposite way around to all of the other opens where a 2 day event is staged with the open being played on the Sunday and other competitions run on the Saturday? The Oxford Open has to my knowledge always been run on the Saturday, but is there any reason that it is run this way round?

I would much rather the open be played on the Sunday as I don't get to play in the inter area 7's, that way I can actually enter the closest open to me which I've never done.

There will be some kind of clash here as I have asked for 7 tables this weekend and the following weekend. We have Sussex inter-league the 2 weekends before Bournemouth(last w/e in Feb and 1st w/e in March). As last year we store the tables and then we deliver them to Bournemouth. Is there any reason why you have the Oxford Open a week later than normal this year. I remember this causing problems before when your date was put a week later due to Valentines day. The problem it causes is obviously the tables and also secondly a lot of regular Sussex players will be absent from one of the events.

There will be big problems if the organisers of these Opens keep on changing the dates, they must realise that the tables are booked for local and national competitions with not many spare weeks in the calendar.

I must admit i was assuming it would be held on the normal weekend being 8th February but if not the 15th February which would have been ok. Just didnt expect the 22nd!.
Suppose we will have to wait to hear from Dave Alder as to who put there booking in first for the tables.
and I still cant do quotes !!!! :'( best wait for version 6 :D

When I booked the tables this was all ok with Dave Alder.
I will contact Dave and Didcot Con Club if the Oxon Open can be changed to the 8th Feb. I will update. Cheers Pete

Thanks for the help. Fingers crossed they can do the 8th. Trying to find 2 consecutive weekends for our inter-league is a nightmare.

I've spoken to Dave Alder on other matters this evening and he is now aware of the conflict.
The problem however is threefold in that Oxford need a weekend, Sussex need two consecutive and there is the home international as well, but Dave has not heard from KT as to what arrangements are progressing.
The situation at present is that Oxford booked first, but Dave will take no action until he hears from Pete re any new date for Oxford.

We should think ourselves lucky to have such a great venue to hold the Open as the Northants Open organisers can't even find a venue suitable to hold their Open. I must be in the minority as I like Saturday tournaments (even though it means no sleep from the night before) because it means not having to get up early for work or pay a fortune to have the day off on the Monday, so perhaps (without trying to upset Sean) I should ask the question "Why are most of the Opens played on a Sunday ?" Leave the Oxon Open/Inter Area 7s W/End as it is as far as I'm concerned. Keith
