No league matches 11th February because of Six a Side KO Final, which will see the first trophy of the season won or lost. Supersubs get a game as sixth man.
Layabouts v Giants at Rangers Club.
Should be a very close one, with three opening breaks each, it could all be decided on aggregate scores if 3-3.

Congratulations to the Giants who are Guernsey six-a-side Knockout champions for 2013/2014 season. As predicted, the match was decided on aggregate scores, the result being 3-3, with Tom's high scoring win over Ben Wilding being a crucial game, however Bob Le Moignan's last ball win (white down the 200) to beat Mat Ogier was also just as important. Also Terry Kenny's come back against El Tel not quite enough, but proved to be a factor in the win. Very fair and competitive game played in good spirits between both teams. Played at The Rangers Club 11/2/14 * indicates opening breaks. Giants players listed first. Terry Kenny 5,320 Terry Girard * 5,810 Tom Oliver * 3,800 Ben Wilding 320 Jon Van Katwyk 3,660 Paul Dyer * 4,460 Bob Le Moignan * 3,160 Mat Ogier 3,140 Luke Oliver 1,750 Larry Bearder * 1,110 Karl Ogier * 4,630 Norman Wilkinson 6,280 Giants 3 Layabouts 3 (22,320) (21,120) Giants edge it by 1,200 points

18/2/14 Giants 1 v Layabouts 4 played at Fontaine, away team had the breaks. A week is a long time in Bar Billiards and the away team made good use of their breaks to secure the win and managed to avenge the aggregate defeat suffered against the Giants in the Knockout Final 7 days previous.
Tom Oliver 3,370 Ben Wilding 2,670 Jon van Katwyk 1,780 Norman Wilkinson 4,570 Luke Oliver 1,880 Mat Ogier 3,350 Terry Kenny 790 Paul Dyer 7,850 Bob Le Moignan 1,780 Terry Girard 5,510

24/2/14 Fontaine 1 Layabouts 4 (re arranged game from before Christmas)
Layabouts got the expected win, but Bob Chapple spoiled the party by beating Diddy in a closely fought game.
Little Legs 1,280 El Tel 4,460 Terry Girard in a comfortable frame of mind easily overcame Davy who is on a weekly abstinence from alcohol campaign (how long will that last ?)
Nick Ogier 1,850 Mat Ogier 5,980 Mat in commanding form left Nick in an unwinable position, although he showed some good touches as usual.
Dave de Jersey 1,750 Peter Lowe 4,520 Layabouts legendary supersub pool of players came into operation once again, with Diddy's uncle and former Island player Pete managing to find his cue in a dusty attic, to prove he has not lost the magic in his first game for over a year.
Bob Chapple 4,460 Paul Dyer 4,040 To be honest this game did not live up to expectations and could have gone either way with both players making multiple uncharacteristic mistakes. Diddy off early on his break, however Bob struggled to take advantage, before getting on the break just before the bar dropped, to produce a game winning comeback to secure a win and avert the whitewash.
Paul Mason 2,060 Norman Wilkinson 4,530 Arriving late due to his swimming training, Mace struggled to keep his head above water in this game.

Baulkliner take all 5 points when playing Breakaways B at the Rangers Club.
Geoff Ogier was unlucky top lose to Trevor Gallienne. coming back from 3500 to lead after a break of 4900. For trevor to get the break back and finish the table. Good though with Trevor having 2 visits as Geoff only had 1 visit. Darren Ogier was Also unlucky to lose on the last ball (in the 200) against Andy Rundle. Getting the break back after being 5000 behind i managed to overtake Andy with just over 5000 break only to miss and Allow Andy back. Matt Wilcox shows some great improvement although losing heavily to Pete Sanders. Pete is playing out of his skin this season and if he was to make a comeback to the Island fold would make a great addition this year. Roy Le Page lost to Barry Osbourne Neither played well but Roy was just not even at the races and for some reason cannot get on with the new table. Pete Wilson lost to Rodney smith it was has to be the most boring game of billiards i have had to endure as marker.

03/03/14 re arranged from 25/02/14 Layabouts 2 Fontaine 3 - Fontaine had the breaks;
Mat Ogier 3,380 Paul Mason 3,020 Bit of a nervy game for both players and could have gone either way. Mace avoiding the swimming training due to suspected flu, however he got plenty of arm action in with the Guinness flowing tonight.
Norman Wilkinson 3,650 Davey Richardson 1,330 A cock up on his opening break let me in early and I kept my 1,800 break when I got it back. Rest of game was rubbish with Terry marking and almost falling asleep. Little Legs said that Mondays don't count with his drinking abstinence, and was sinking a few John Smiths during the game.
Terry Girard 1,900 Dave de Jersey 2,040 Both players struggled and when the bar dropped it was anyone's game. Jers coming good when Tel let him back in when he should have nailed it.
Pete Lowe 1,900 Nick Ogier 4,680 His first game on Ex Service table Pete could not make head nor tail of the break, despite two attempts when he got it back. Nick pulling out a stunning array of shots was in command througout and worthy of his win.
Now 2-2 and the same draw as last week - Didi v Bob C
Paul Dyer 540 Bob Chapple 5,960 Both players struggled on the table at first, Diddi failing to capitalize on an early Chapple miss. However half way through, Bob started to flow, and survived a narrow miss of the white peg to keep his 5,000 break. After that is was all over despite a brief Dyer rally that resulted in a peg.

Breakaways A v Breakaways B
These stablemates fought out a close game with the B team narrowly winning 3-2
Game 1
A team Captain Champ chose to try and catch Mr Le page cold in an attempt to go 1-0 up against the break. And it worked with Roy playing well below par. What Champs didn't predict how poorly the 2 of them would of played. Champ wins 2900 v Roy 2230
Game 2 saw the battle of the newcomers. With both players looking for their first victory who could hold their nerve. Matt Wilcox opens up with 2800 and all the practice has now paid off. Chris Lancaster new the Writing was on the wall. Although he played a few good shots Matt was Brimming with confidence finishing with 4370 while Chris knocked over the Black with the last ball.
In Game 3 the highly experienced Gary Naftel Made light work of Pete Wilson as he easily knocked in a score of 4230 versus Petes 280.
Game 4 was about which Ogier to place under the most pressure and chose to leave Geoff until Last. Darren now playing new boy Niall Bougourd for the 3rd time this season. With the Break on his former table leaving Niall with no chance. Niall Bougourd 50 v Darren Ogier 9390.
Game 5 and with the scores at 2-2 which player could hold their nerve. Geoff with the Opening break would of wanted to start better as he missed both balls on his first shot. After a few shots each Paul managed to get the break back. With a grin from ear to ear he set about putting up a lead that would take the game beyond Geoff. However with some intense banter from his own Team mate Gary, he missed after 400. This Allowed Geoff the gap he needed to take advantage
PaulLe Gallez 590 Geoff Ogier 3100

Breakaways A v Layabouts @ Rangers Football Club.
Breakaways A 1 - 4 Layabouts
P Le Gallez v N Wilkinson A close fought out match with neither player taking full advantage of the break when having it, A bit scrappy with Norman winning with the last ball down the 100 shot, all I can say is lucky the 100 hole was about 10" wide!. Paul 2370 Norman 2530
G Naftel v T Girard This game Tel broke down early on his break and let Gary play his best game this season with over a 6k break, Nothing Tel could do today. Gary 8610 Tel 660
C Lancaster v B Wilding Another touch and go game with Chris our new player this season playing his best game to date, narrowly beaten only due to a bit of shot selection, well done to Ben for holding his nerve and making the last few balls count to snatch the win. Chris 1530 Ben 1840
N Bourgourd v P Dyer Always going to be one result in this match but by how much really, Did not see this played but end result Niall 230 Paul 10,890
I Champion v M Ogier On paper this was classed as bout of the night being on last, Only ever one winner in this match with Matt chasing the P Dyer score coming out winner with a great score. well done matt. Ian 200 Matt 11,270

18th March 2014 - Layabouts 3 v Breakaways B 2 played at Ex Service Club
Breakaways B were desparate for a good performance, following a 5-0 drubbing by the Giants the previous evening, but did not make full use of their opening breaks however came away with two points.
Terry Girard 3630 beat Peter Wilson 370 Terry took command early on and despite improvement, Pete still looking for his first winter league win.
Norman Wilkinson 3610 lost to Roy Le Page 5170 Roy was keen to get back on song after a run of defeats. He opened with around 2000 and I immediately got the break back, replying with 3400 before leaving two balls on the edge of a 50 pocket. But that only proved to be a wake up call to Roy who broke back with a 3000+ to more or less use up the rest of the clock which secured him a much needed win.
Mat Ogier 1880 lost to Darren Ogier 4850 Mat never really got going in this one, despite several opportunities that Darren gave him. A scrappy game by both players, although Darren was a clear winner.
Paul Dyer 7360 beat Geoff Ogier 1370 Vetran Geoff's first league game on this table, he could not get on with the break and very scrappy play by both players until Diddy got the break with 5 mins left to get a decent break and score.
Ben Wilding 2520 beat Matt Wilcox 2050 Last on as usual it was up to Ben to seal the win, and he rose to the occasion by beating the ever improving Matt, although the speed of the shots by both players made it look like a pool match at times. This could have gone either way,and Ben was the one who held his nerve and kept his scores to sneak another win.

1st April 2014 Fontaine v Layabouts A lively evening as usual between the two old rivals who supped a few pints during the course of the evenings entertainment. Dave de Jersey 2770 Paul Dyer 3520 A low scoring game for Dids with quite a few pegs from both players. Unaccustomed to playing so early on, the away player was out of sorts, but still scraped the win. Davey Richardson 720 Terry Girard 5110 Terry fluffed his opening break and was not looking too clever early doors. But he regained his composure, having loads of chances with Davey's poor shot selection. Nick Ogier 2300 Norman Wilkinson 4490 Nick was above me in the rankings before tonight and I knew I had to put in a good opening break to stand a chance. The game went according to plan for me, and we were 3-0 up when the bar dropped. Paul Mason 1700 Mat Ogier 1030 This game do not go according to the script for the away team, with Mat struggling with his opening break and throughout a very scrappy game by both players. Colin de Jersey 4020 Ben Wilding 1320 Drafted in as Supersub, Landlord Colin did not let the team down in only his second game of the season. Playing like the veteran he is, he easily overcame Ben in one sided game, cheered on by his brother and fellow team mates. Still 4 games to play for the Layabouts and some teams have completed their fixtures. Blighted by cancellations and postponements, the Island Team selection Committee have a job on their hands to get it right and to be fair to all players with so many games outstanding.

7th April 2014 LAYABOUTS 4 GIANTS 1 (Away team had the opening break) Norman Wilkinson 5100 beat Luke Oliver 2510 Terry Girard 3980 beat Bob Le Moignan 2350 Phil Keutzer 2200 lost to Terry Kenny 5720 Mat Ogier 1990 beat Tom Oliver 1420 Paul Dyer 6350 beat Karl Ogier 4290 Layabouts had to draw on their pool of reserve players to make a full team with one of the original L'Auberge Divette players Phil Keutzer making a welcome return. Although he lost, he still showed some good skills with the antique and trusted cue. This result secured us second place in the league and we play the champions Baulkliners tomorrow evening, with only pride at stake. Should be a good night v the Boring Fanta Five.

The final Guernsey league games are being played tonight at Rangers Club where Layabouts and Breakaways A play an unusual double header of two five a side matches, one on each of the tables there. Layabouts will have the breaks on the blue table, and have agreed to play against the breaks on the other table, so the outstanding league fixtures can be completed on the same night.

Layabouts beat Rangers A 9-1 on the night Thanks to the Rangers team, especially Champ who got this busy fixture together and Katie the barmaid for looking after us in her usual efficient and understanding way. It was a noisy and intense night with Arsenal v West Ham blasting out on TV just above table 2. Gary and Diddi had their minds on the match rather than Bar Billiards, but it did not seem to affect them, although Naftel dropped two games.
