Congratulations to Brighton B on their victory in the B Team competition at Hurst Club today, winning by just 1 point ahead of Worthing B in an exciting finish with the results of the very last games of the day proving decisive. Redhill B finished third with Worthing C just behind them, Brighton C finishing in 5th just ahead of Mid-Sussex B. Matthew "Silent" Knight topped the individual averages winning all 5 of his games with an average of 7,918, just ahead of Bill Kerr, Mal Spier, Pete Hickman and Anita Blackman who were also undefeated on the day. Alan Brackenridge had the highest score of the day with 14,650 and Pete Hickman hit the highest recorded break of 10,120. Many thanks to the Hurst Club for their hospitality, Dave Alder for bringing down the AEBBA Tables for us to use, Kevin Hall for his excellent work selling the raffle tickets and also to Kevin (again), Jean Brackenridge, Tony Jenner, and Colleen for their help in arranging and setting up the tables for the weekend. The results, scores and averages for the day are now on the Sussex website:- www.sussexbarbilliards.com/Sussex/1%20day%20cups/B%20Teams%202014.htmBack again tomorrow for Division 2.

Congratulations to Horsham on their victory in the Division 2 One Day B Team competition at Hurst Club today, finishing 6 points ahead of Litlehampton after a 5-2 win over their rivals in the final series of matches. West Sussex were third just ahead of Lewes who finished above Billingshurst after winning one more game with Eastbourne finishing in last place. Declan Dynes (Littlehampton) topped the individual averages winning all 5 of his games with an average of 6,392, just ahead of Lee Cable, Stuart Carruthers (both Horsham) and Mick Johnson (Billingshurst) who were also undefeated on the day. Steve Beach (Littlehampton) hit the highest score of the day with 10,210. Many thanks to the Hurst Club for their hospitality again, Bill Kerr and Colin Southouse who both did a great job of selling raffle tickets, Zoe Stoner for her help on the Admin Desk and doing the raffle draw and all involved with helping to organise the day and setting up the for the weekend. The results, scores and averages for the day are now on the Sussex website:- www.sussexbarbilliards.com/Sussex/1%20day%20cups/Division%202%202014.htmA really good day, great to see everybody enjoying playing so much and a great atmosphere in the Club today. A final thank you to Zoe and Lana Stoner who both kindly turned out as reserves for Billingshurst after one of their players pulled out at the last minute, apparently Mum had to bring them both as they were both so keen to play.... it was really good to see so much enthusiasm among young players!

Congratulations to Brighton A on their victory in the Ladies One Day competition at Hurst Club today, the 5th Consecutive year that they have won this competition and 16th overall title. Brighton A finished on 38 points, just 2 points ahead of Redhill A who were runners-up for the 4th time in 5 years. Redhill B finished 3rd on 27 points just ahead of Horsham on 25 points with Mid-Sussex in 5th with 19 points and the new Brighton B team finishing last on this occasion. Bella Stoner (Brighton A) topped the individual averages winning all 10 legs of her matches with Denise Wills (Redhill A), Jean Brackenridge (Brighton A) and Genette Nicholls (Redhill A) all winning 9 out of 10 legs. Denise hit the highest individual score of the day with 11,380 and Jean hit the highest break with 9,220. Many thanks to the Hurst Club for their hospitality again, Alan and Jean Brackenridge and Colleen Park for their help in preparing the tables, Colin Robbins for his usual great selection of food and Jean who prepared the schedules to allow double legs on the day.... with a bit of help from Nigel. A final thank you must also go to Bill Kerr for selling the raffle tickets.... sadly I forgot to thank him at the end of the day in the Club itself, but without his help and the generosity of all of the players we wouldn't be able to run these day! Full results should be on the Sussex Website tomorrow, 14 hours today mean that I need my bed now!

A very enjoyable day in the company of the laydees. Some of the usual competitors missing this year but some new faces too. Thanks to Dave for running the day as competently as usual and to all others who had a hand in the organisation thereof. And to Colin Robbins for his usual tasty fare. A personal "well done" to the Horsham team on breaking even (25 pts for and 25 away) in its second year - and especially to my Tuesday team mate Vicky with 7 wins out of ten.

Yes a BIG thanks to Dave for running these events, sometimes a thankless task and you cannot please all the people all the time.
To those that have helped over the two weekends, and to Colin and helpers for catering, Hurst Club for letting us use this great and friendly venue.
Dave again for his tireless work getting all the facts on the web site so promptly.
Well done to Brighton ladies yesterday, looking through the details on the web site some great individual performances and good to see some new faces. Unfortunately Liz has been unwell this weekend so have been unble to get to Hurst Club so will miss some great bar billiards.

A very exciting finale to the Division 1 competition at Hurst Club today with 3 teams level at the top going into the last series of matches on 17 points.... and only 2 points separating the bottom 3 teams as well. Redhill had a slight advantage having won all 4 of their games up til then, Brighton had lost one game and Worthing had lost two games.... however after the first set of matches Redhill found themselves 2-1 down to Tunbridge Wells while Brighton were 1-1 against Mid-Sussex and Worthing were also 1-1 against Hastings. Brighton then won both of their 2 games in the next set of matches while Redhill could only share the spoils and Worthing lost 2-1 in their matches.... nervous moments in the last games saw the title pass between all 3 teams at least once.... Worthing and Redhill convincingly won both of their last 2 games while Brighton were up in one game but behind in the other two games, but a late break by Gareth Lloyd sealed the win for Brighton and also relegated Mid-Sussex who had finished joint bottom on 13 points with Hastings having both won one match, but the Hastings win was 4-3 against Mid-Sussex and the head-to-head result decided it. Ian Lelliott (Worthing) topped the individual averages winning all 5 of his games with an average of 9,570 while Gary Powell (Redhill) and Jim Millward (Brighton) were also unbeaten on the day. Gerry Fitzjohn (Worthing) hit the highest score (14,070) of the day with scores generally higher this year than in previous years with 26 scores above 10k recorded this year in comparison to 15 in 2013 and 14 in 2012.... so a big thank you to all those involved over both weekends in setting up the tables as they clearly were good. The results are now all on the Sussex Website.... www.sussexbarbilliards.com/Sussex/1%20day%20cups/Division%201%202014.htmJean did a great job on the Admin Desk and also did a lot of work behind the scenes over both weekends to make sure that the competitions ran smoothly and my thanks also go to the Hurst Club for hosting the event, Colin for the great food as always, Bill for selling the raffle tickets and Chris Saville who kindly picked the tables up from the Club at the end of the day. All in all it was a brilliant end to the One Day Competitions this year.... almost enough to erase a few bad memories after a couple of the other days.

I would like to say the tables yesterday were challenging but this is why this was a great competition and the tables were perfect of you thought about them. So thank you to everyone involved and looking forward to next year
