Hi All,
I was having a thought the other day about this competition and how much hassle people seem to have had in recent times trying to arrange games during the season.
I was thinking about moving this to a 1-day event after one of the finals nights (tables and venue permitting).
I was thinking about having a round-robin tournament, so this way people get a few games each.
What are people's thoughts on this ?
Sunday May 18th the day after the Witney finals night is what i am thinking......

Sounds like a plan to me, it may generate some more interest from teams and get more involved given a new format!

I was thinking about having a round-robin tournament, so this way people get a few games each. What are people's thoughts on this ? Sunday May 18th the day after the Witney finals night is what i am thinking...... As we have discussed Mark, it's an interesting idea but to play Devils Advocate for a moment... Two of the very few teams who traditionally support this comp. will be involved in our Finals Night and I'm not sure if they will be up for it the day after... We have to work out the logistics of leaving the tables in-situ after play has finished on the Saturday. Catering will be minimal at the Masons although I'm sure Matt will do a pot of chilli or something. It may be a victim of it's own success if too many teams enter...nice problem though! I like the idea though and with four AEBBA tables AND the pub one, one could play a whole match simultaneously in only 20+ minutes but if just six teams enter you will have to play 15 games in a round robin so it's a minimum of 6 hours and probably more.... I am still waiting for feedback from my committee before saying yay or nay though..... Tony

Thanks Phil was brought in on the basis that we are allowed a guest? Is that rule still in circulation? Yes, you are allowed a guest player but they must be a player from the same league. See below an extract of the rule... A team may enter a guest player PROVIDED he only plays for the team he is guesting for (and plays regularly for that league if registered for more than one league).

Right, pub does not open until 12 so it will be a 12.30 start. Please can captains get there for 12ish so you can do the draw and collect schedules etc. Good luck to all teams.

Right you are there Keith ;) we won it by 2 points in the end after finishing the day unbeaten with 2x 3-2 wins, 2x 4-1 and one 5-0, hell of a showing given many (including us) would of written us off!! Was a really enjoyable day and well done Mark presiding over your second competition as secretary!

Curiosity question as non Oxford, but have been following this thread, but was it established that Phil is a legal player for an Oxford side? According to the two quotes above he does not play regularly for that league? and he has been playing inter-area for Wallingford thus I presume he needs to play regularly in Oxford.

Chris, could you lock this thread to stop it getting out of hand before it starts? I have just sent an email to yourself, Dave, & Pete to give the facts and to get a ruling. Once I have this, i can then publish the results from the day. Thanks

Phil has not played Oxford League this season. Phil was put in as a late signing for Didcot CC so he could play for Didcot in the All England???
