Anyone looking for a table?? Attachment Deleted
I have very good Jelkes table that is virtually ready to go to a new home.
As is generally known I maintain, restore and refurbish the national competition table set and am known for producing the best set of tables that the national association has had to offer counties for very many years. I keep an eye out for quality tables to replace national tables which have a pretty hard life being dragged from competition to competition. I only buy the later Jelkes mahogany tables which are rarely for sale but are the best available and most durable in my view. This table was bought with that aim in mind.
Having stripped down the slate for recovering I discovered a pair of hairline cracks in the slate. This is not as serious as it would seem as I am known for the method of bracing that I have developed. Problem is the slate will not stand being chucked around in the back of a van, no matter how much bracing I do it will flex. I have thus decided to sell the table on as, stood in a pub, it will play as well as any league table going.
I attach a picture of the table and can supply more if you wish. The table is as I got it, just wiped down to clean it and not flashed up in cheap varnish as many I see. A good polish and it will really shine. It has been recovered in the finest cloth used for our national tournaments. The cushions did not need doing but I have stripped and re-glued them. The clock was giving problems and I have had a clock restorer rebush the main drive wheel socket which was quite worn, I have also fitted a new drive spring and polished the faces of the ticker arm. It has run to completion very many times that I have checked it, whereas it was stopping frequently before. The clock takes £1 coins. I have managed to find a small coin box for it but do not have a key for the lock.
I also have a canopy shade that is surplus to requirements but not chain or ceiling hooks which are easily obtainable.
The only problems that I can see are that the table has a four inch damage section to the beading half way down the left hand rail as can be seen in the picture. The four lane scoreboard has one pointer missing. Only two of the four lanes are normally used, one marker of the third and fourth rail being used as thousand counters in competition breaks. The table comes with skittles and balls but would benefit from a couple more cheap cues.
If you want me to deliver and set it up I will be happy to do so provided my travel costs are paid before I leave home. I do not expect anyone to pay for a table until they have seen it.
You will be getting a far superior table to any of the rubbish I see on Ebay with all the problems I have encountered dealt with over very many hours. Obviously the table is a good fifty years old and I cannot give any guarantee with it.
Thought it would be going to a publican Northants via Colemanator but emails and a phone call have not elicited contact so it will be going on Ebay next weekend, but I am open to offer circa £1k
Sav.

Well done Magic Mikey and welcome. Is there much evidence of bar billiards in your county ? It seems to be taking off across the Pennines in a big way.......

Thanks Tommo, I am not aware of much activity at all in the Manchester area, if I get to be competent it would be great to be able to get involved with a league. If anyone on here does know of anything I would appreciate knowing. The public tables on the map on the website all appear to be in city centre Manchester, it's not ideal for me but I will have a nosey once my table is settled in. It's unlikely that I would find a suitable level of play in Yorkshire, we don't suffer much with sporting competition from over the hills, particularly when it involves round balls. ;)
I play snooker and always fancied having my own table, finances, room and a wife (not necessarily in that order) made that impossible. I used to watch Indoor League with Fred Trueman in the seventies and was always fascinated with bar billiards. My wife and I are going our seperate ways so now seemed the ideal time to take the plunge, it seems a safer mid life crisis than buying a big motorbike.

Hi again Mikey. You won't go far wrong by buying a table from Sav. The one I bought off him had the Horsham League's top break and score (19,730) made on it last season....against me ! (I didn't get a single go.)
What you have there is a top-quality Jelkes (the best make, IMHO) which is worthy of national competition-standard play.
You are however (as I'm sure you will realise) in a bit of a barren area for the game. On the AEBBA map, we have put any venues we have found as "non-league 4-Pin". This has been prompted by a picture from one of the central Manchester bars showing a modern table with mushrooms being used.
This may be a misrepresentation, as there used to be a table rental operator 30 or more years ago based in Accrington. Talking of which, that is where the table manufacturer Riley was based. So really and truly we are completely in the dark over what happened to all this table operator's stock - does some of it still about in northern pubs and social clubs ? Perhaps one day you may be in a position to help us.......
Regards, tommo

Hi Tommo, I am delighted with the table, although my wife and daughter think that I have lost the plot. I am struggling to find anything. I need to find at least one opponent before I can legitimately take my crown as Greater Manchester champion. Championship to take place in October in my dining room. Cheers Mike

I know where that pub is but I've never been in it. I will check it out and report back. May not be for a few weeks yet. I'm sorting out a house move. Thanks for the information. Mike
