HI Mark, sorry about this mate but I'm not able to attend due to work, I've had to cancel my week off which is infuriating!! I will still come down on Saturday to help set up and will come down Sunday evening to help clear up.

Thanks Craig,
Is that the Abbey Sports end where it bends please? It looks on the map that Green Furlong is split into two unconnected halves.

Congrats to the organiser he wanted the tournament to go ahead so he even managed to win it we'll done mark Well done indeed to Traffs. That's what I call a worthy case. And a good warm-up for the defence of his World Championship title. And congrats also to our 'local hero' Dave for yet another feather in his cap.

Congratulations to Mark Trafford for winning the Berks Open yesterday beating me in a close final in which we both had chances, also to Pauline Withey who beat Jenny Florey to win the Plate Competition in another good game. The quarter-final line up was as follows.... Tony Martin v Gerry Fitzjohn Jon Bamsey v Mark Trafford Bill Kerr v Geoff Mace Mark Brewster v Dave Ingram Dawn Jordan won the Ladies High Break Award and I won the Men's High Break, the tables offered many different challenges to the players on the day which kept everybody thinking. Thanks to Mark and everyone else involved in organising and running the day at very short notice, the venue was very welcoming, it was nice to go somewhere new and visit a new part of "Berkshire"!

Well done to Mark on winning this years Berks open, seems only fitting that the guy who got it organised at the last minute should take the title. Commiserations to Dave who came runner up. Well done Pauline and Jenny too. I'd like to say well done to my old mate and teammate Geoff Mace on hitting form finally in getting to the semis. We are going to need that this year in the league! I'm gutted I couldn't attend the open at my home venue but was glad I had a part in it by helping set up on the Saturday evening. Apologies to Mark that I couldn't make it yesterday evening to clear up though! Berinsfield for future tournaments maybe? %

Well that was quite an exhausting weekend! Thanks to everyone for the congratulations, i am to have won the tournament after being runner-up last year! Never an easy task when trying to run the tournament as well as play! A special thanks to Dawn Jordan who volunteered to help me during the day, much appreciated Also thanks to Ian Lelliott for helping with the presentation. Plus all the helpers with the setting up/taking down of the tables. Little disappointing that there were only 4 of us to take down the tables and one of them was not a bar billiard player! As some have commented, there were couple of "dodgy" tables but i think they were all playable if you worked at them! Although i didn't play table 5 which received the worst criticism! My only defence is that it played lovely at 9.30 !! Dave will know as people were complaining about table 8 before he then knocked in 18,700 !!! Thank you also for the kind comments about me running the competition, both on here and on the day. When you hear comments like that it makes all the hard work worthwhile! All i was trying to do was to keep the competition running and i am glad i did now Let's hope that the Berkshire committee can find a suitable venue next year so the competition can return home. Thanks again and see you all soon

My only defence is that it played lovely at 9.30 !! Dave will know as people were complaining about table 8 before he then knocked in 18,700 !!! Looking at the AEBBA website I'd noticed that Table 5 had very low scores, so what was the problem with it ? In 28 legs played there was a total of 56,950 scored making an average of just 2,030 per leg!!. There were only three scores over 3,000 made on the day and they were Pauline Withey 5,240, Curt Driver 4,810 & Tony Willis 4,690, although these same three players also had leg scores of 760, 1,360 & 1,090 respectively on that table. Milko (just curious)

Fair comment Keith, but unless someone can identify which AEBBA table number was table five then I have absolutely nothing to go on in my repairs day on Friday at Bournemouth.
There has not been a single comment on any of the individual tables under their threads since March last year, so all in the garden is rosy and I get the day off!!

I had the pleasure of playing table 5 against Curt. The problem was it was downhill so playing a split shot you nearly missed the red going up and the white would then bend back left after it hit the red. That is if you got that far.
I think it was just the setup on the day.....one of those things. But the worst table I have played at an open.

As Nigel has said, it was just the way the table settled in during the day. In my defence, it played lovely at 9am when i got there and tested all of them before the start of the day!
