4th November 2014 Layabouts 3 Baulkliners 2 played at Ex Service Club, Baulkliners had the opening breaks. Lots of early fireworks and crackers, losing team facing a rocket from Captain Norman Wilkinson 1,220 Andrew Rundle 6,700 I had no answers to Andy's opening 5,000 and did not take advantage of a chance to get the break back. Best player on the night won. Paul Dyer 12,440 Pete Sanders 0 This is the best I have seen from Diddi this season. Despite being distracted by Arsenal playing on tv he took control when Pete missed early on, a very rare occurrence from one of the top players in the league. Diddi broke with 11,900, giving his team encouragement that the impossible was possible. A great shame he is not playing in Jersey this weekend as on this form he could cause a few upsets. Bob Chapple 7,860 Rodney Smith 3,840 Rodney is a hard player to beat against the break and Bob thought he had given the game away after leaving two up when he got back on the break. But fortune favours the brave and Bob's attacking style gave him the break back a second time and he wasn't going to make the same mistake twice. Now its 2-1 to the home team. Mat Ogier 6,240 Ozzy Osbourne 640 Mat has been threatening some big scores recently and has still to hit his true form. He lost some big breaks before finally settling down and defeating a worthy opponent. Terry Girard 460 Trevor Gallienne 15,080 El Tel was drawn the short straw once again and had no chance against a player warming up for Jersey. Trevor broke off with a score of 14,900 only just failing to play the table out. So an impressive 3-2 win for the home team Layabouts against Baulkliners, which puts pressure on the defending Guernsey league champions as they expected to win tonight.

Giants 1 Layabouts 4
Tom Oliver 4190 Bob Chapple 8030 Bob only scored just over 2,000 with his opening break and Tom should have taken advantage of this on his home table. However he missed his only chance and Bob carved out an uncatchable lead, Tom not disgraced with a fine break at the end of the game, but the clock ran out for the Time Lord.
Jon van Katwyk 4320 Terry Girard 1300 a bit of a scrappy game, which could have gone either way. Jon managing to get a decent break together towards the later stages, Terry not having the run of the balls tonight.
Luke Oliver 1890 Norman Wilkinson 5510 After keeping two up on my first break with only 450 on the board. I thought Luke was going to win this one again after his win at Ex Service against me. But I managed to get the pace of the table right eventually and put a few decent breaks together to propel the away team into an 2-1 lead.
Terry Kenny 4590 Mat Ogier 7470 This was always going to be the most competitive match of the evening, Kane with only one loss, and the two players did not disappoint. Both players having their chances early on, it looked like the home player was going to walk it, especially after a sneaky 200 during his break. But persistence paid off for Oggy and he went ahead with a determined break, Terry's impressive loosing score of 4590 certainly not a disgrace.
Bob Le Moingnan 2520 Paul Dyer 3720 No big breaks for Didi tonight and he happily staggered over the finishing line to earn his team Layabouts a 4-1 win, and now they are joint top of the league with Giants, with a game in hand.

Christmas comes early for Fontaine in re arranged match. (Should have been played 16th December 2014) Layabouts 2 Fontaine 3 Shock result as Layabouts lose to bottom team.
Norman Wilkinson 1270 Ian Champion 5890 Champ making a surprise appearance a day after his minor op, it was me that got stitched up. Champy keeping his unbeaten run going with a 2k+ opening break which I struggled to catch, with the balls spinning out of pockets and a couple of pegs that didn't help Result still subject to a late drugs test.
Mat Ogier 3590 Mace 3290 A bit of a dog fight this one, Mace a little unlucky not to win, Oggy's final break after the bar dropped just edging it, leaving Mace with no chance to catch up.
Didi Dyer 11530 Little Legs 50 A game of two halves, Didi winning them both. Davey leaving his opening break short, Didi rose to new heights with his best game of the season, belittling his opponent, Davey more than a little dissapointed only to end up with half a century all game.
Bob Chapple 4240 Nick Ogier 6370 The two former team mates met, with loads of banter, Nick coming out (double) tops with loads of bull like the typical darts player he is. Nicks 4k+ pus break middle innings proved decisive and with Bob failing to get the break back with 6 minutes still to go, winning was going to be a hard task. Bob got the break back with about 2 mins left, but ran out of time, and surrendered the match and his unbeaten record.
Terry Girard 1140 Dave de Jersey 4360 Have seen Jers put in some good performances on this table as he did again tonight. Leading his team to victory with a convincing win.

Having suggested a 'Player short' rule should be brought in immediately to save the Guernsey league from total ridicule, tonight's match went a long way to prove that it is needed, although the G.B.B.A. seem to be totally oblivious to the fact that this rule exists in other leagues in the England leagues without controversy and with great support, as it helps teams fufil fixtures without cancelling games. My suggestion was apparently discussed but ridiculed according to Darren, and I feel that any suggestions that may help our league survive in the future are often shot down in flames without due thought and consideration. Layabouts 2 Breakaways 3 A stunning win for the away team who only had four players on the night. A great shame that the 5th game did not count, and lucky for us as it could have been 4-1 against. A CLEAR EXAMPLE WHERE THE PLAYER SHORT RULE COULD HAVE / SHOULD HAVE BEEN USED. Fair play to the Breakaways for turning up with 4 players instead of 5 and not cancelling the match.
Mat Ogier 2380 Darren Ogier 7150 A cagey and nervous start for Darren who seemed to be struggling. But after a few pacey shots and an amazing clearance, settled into a match winning break, which was impossible to catch.
Paul Dyer 2810 Matt Wilcox 240 This was not as one sided as it looks, and Matt was very unlucky to loose a couple of big breaks. Diddi hung on, but could not repeat his high scoring exploits from the previous week.
Terry Girard 1200 Geoff Ogier 4710 Former Island player and veteran Geoff showed he still has the magic touch, although both players struggled with the slow table at times. Nothing going right for El Tel tonight.
Norman Wilkinson 1930 Roy Le Page 7780 After scoring over 10000 last week, Roy's confidence was high, and he was unlikely to make a mistake as he calmly opened with a 5K + break. I got the break back after a minutes play, but only scored approx 1,500, leaving Roy to take advantage and continue his resurgence to form. He should have a good chance to be in the top six if he continues this rich run.
Bob Chapple won by default.

6th January 2015 Baulkiners 1 Layabouts 4 Away team make full use of opening breaks to beat the reigning champions for the second time this season.
Barry Osborne 1020 Paul Dyer 8280 Trevor's attempt to confuse Didi by putting him on first backfired, as Barry struggled to get any sort of reply after getting back on the table - Good start.
Pete Sanders 3480 Terry Girard 5110 Terry played very well and put one of the best players in the league under pressure with his opening 4,000 + break. Pete had his chances, but Terry hung on and managed to keep far enough in front before the bar dropped. Good win for El Tel back to his old self.
Trevor Gallienne 12480 Norman Wilkinson 1270 Trevor managed to keep his unbeaten record easily, after I did not leave him a big target to beat with my opening break. One point back for the home team.
Rodney Smith 410 Mat Ogier 11340 The leather jacket came off as Rodders stripped for action, but he was left out in the cold and any amount of barracking and shaking the table did not work either as Mat took control with a cool and calculated burst of skill, leaving his veteran opponent stunned.
Andy Rundle 4610 Bob Chapple 10130 Bob started off at a very rapid pace, breaking with the split shot and looking that he could possibly surpass Trevor's record season score of 19010. But after scoring just over 7000 in about 5 minutes he under hit a shot and let Andy in. Andy got the break back, but was not flowing quick enough to make an impression on Bobs score and ended up making a mistake also to let Bob back on the table.
So with half the season gone, Layabouts go back to the top of the league, however Baulkliners have a match in hand so the battle remains close and it is still any teams title to win.

The Season so far.......... Baulkliners were another team possibly wishing the 'Player short rule' was introduced into the Guernsey league, as their 4 man team suffered a shock 1-4 defeat to Fontaine. This was the second consecutive 4-1 defeat the reigning champions have suffered. With half of the season gone, it is very close at the top, with four teams still in the mix to become champions, including Fontaine if they can win their 'in hand' games convincingly.
Layabouts Played 8 Points 24 Giants Played 9 Points 24 Baulkliners Played 8 Points 22 Fontaine played 7 Points 16 Breakaways Played 8 Points 14

27th January 2014 Layabouts 2 Giants 3
Paul Dyer 8140 Bob Le Moignan 890 Becoming more accustomed to playing first, Diddi made full use of the break when he got it back early doors, and made no mistake with a cool and confident match.
Mat Ogier 930 Tom Oliver 2690 Tom broke off first, but under hit his third shot leaving both balls up. Mat started to build a big break and was looking a dead cert to win. But a wrong choice of shot left a ball down on the bottom cushion which was missed with the following shot, and he waved goodbye to his 4300 break. This put Tom back in with a chance and Mat never recovered. Tom relieved to win in the end.
Bob Chapple 9220 Terry Kenny 2250 These two former team mates met for the third time this season. Bob coming out on top once again, but both players seemed to be under performing until Bob got back on the break with approx 5 minutes to go, and put in the highest score of the night. Norman Wilkinson 640 John Van Katwyk 3100 An uneventful game with both players having their chances, but struggling with the table. I could not manage to get the break back and John deserved his win, mastering the table eventually.
Terry Girard 1040 Luke Oliver 4060 Luke playing well and on form, he sealed the win for his team. Terry also struggling with the slow pace of the table as a few others did on the night.

Breakaways v Layabouts was a classic
classice disaster for most players.
Matt Ogier set the tone by missing his opening break and leaving both balls up. After this the whole night, the table was the only winner. Although Roy beat Matt Ogier. It was more luck and trick shots rather than good play as these 2 normally reliable players looked more like beginners.
The second wasn't much better as Ben Wilding followed his dad (Matt) and missed early in his break. Geoff Ogier and Ben then threw blow after blow, as each tried to beat the clock as they played whirl wind billiards with little effect as neither player made any scores. The game settleed slightly before Geoff took a slender lead with some un familar billiards. Ben was still in the game and started a fight back before black pegging and sealing his loss.
Breakaways 2-0 up could Darren Ogier make it 3 against Terry Girard.
No was the simple answer. Terry started slightly better than the rest of his team mates but didn't leave much of a target. Darren (me) played like another beginner struggling with the table and even the break. Both players mucked about on the table for 12 mins before i got the break back and manged to take a small lead before clipping the 50 pocket causing the ball to spin out and white peg to allow Terry back in. It must of been something in the weather though as Terry came down with an awful cough and was barely able to play. It must of been bad as he only manged 5 shots in 2.5 mins. He did enough though to win the game. (I hope he is alright today)
In the same match as the last time the teams met New boy Matt Wilcox played Diddy. Diddy was in great form and with the opening break the writing was on the wall. However when Diddy left both Balls up on his opening shot. Matt must of thought is was Christmas again. Well it might of been as both players were content on letting the other to the table. Giving each other gift after gift. In the end though Diddy sneaked the victory to bring the scores level.
Norman Wilkinson then had thr pressure to try and beat Pete Wilson. With Pete struggling in recent games after a short break from the game and only averaging less that 300 it was all in Norman Favor. However the pressure must of been on as he missed with only 1100 points. Peter played some of his best shots we had ever seen for the next 10mins and closed the gap to just 200. Normans nerves were getting the best of him and could he secure the victory before the gavel dropped. His job was made a little easier after Peter black pegged twice to hand team victory to the Layabouts.

Breakaways record a stunning 5- 0 win against the Fontaine team.
Against the break and lying bottom of league, the odds were stacked against them.
Geoff Ogier opened the evening with a comfortable victory over Dave Richardson 2790 v 1210
Darren Ogier then beat Dave De Jersey in a nail biter, training by 1600 a break of 1900 took him 260 ahead with one ball to play. With Dave knocking over the black with the game already lost. 3600 - 0
Then the highlight of the night saw Pete Wilson win his first ever match against former Island Player Paul Le Gallez. Pete Played some steady billiards with some stunning shots around the 50 pocket. Paul was a cress fallen come the end with no words to comfort him. 1090 - 950
Matt Wilcox then inflicted defeat on Ian Champion for the 1st time this season. Trailing in tight Game matt managed to get the break back and knock in a break of 3500 to play the table out and secure a 5- 0 victory as Paul Mason was unable to play and gave a walk over to Roy Le Page

I would expect Fontaine to field a full team at home this evening against Layabouts.

Fontaine 2 Layabouts 3 - played 10th February 2015. Away team had the breaks. No real shocks in this one, Fontaine back on song after the shock defeat the night previous.
Nick Ogier 1130 Paul Dyer 3850 Didi on first again kept his nose in front on a table that was up to a few tricks, both players struggling with the pace and rolls in certain places. Dave de Jersey 4080 Terry Girard 1620 This was closer than the score suggests. A big break lost by El Tel cost him the frame.
Davey Richardson 740 Mat Ogier 5280 Mat made sure after being off early with under 500 and after a slow start he mastered the table eventually.
Ian Champion 7690 Norman Wilkinson 4020 Champs back on form after his surprise and first defeat last evening. I was off after 1600 which was never going to be enough to scare him. I got the break back towards the end, but Champs had left me no time to catch his score.
Paul Mason 280 Bob Chapple 11090 Mace still to win a game this season, the deciding game was a bit of a no contest, the table seemed to have settled down with less heat in the room, and it suited Bob's style.

sorry i did a full write up and when i hit post it deleted it.
so Giants beat Breakaways on aggregate in the team Knockout from 2-0 down and then 3-1 down the Breakaways at least made it interesting come the end.
Good luck in the final if there is ever one due to the infighting of the fotaine and the Layabouts.

Layabouts 2 Baulkliners 3
Layabouts go top despite loss on a night of high scores and high quality Bar Billiards. Only two points separate the top three teams now, with equal games played. Two 'run outs' by the defending Champions on the same night - unbelievable !
Game 1 - Mat Ogier 5930 Pete Sanders 4570 Pete wanted to 'go on early' as usual, so we let him, and he looked very confident with an opening 4500 break. But that wasn't going to deter an even more determined 'Oggy' who got the break back and began to claw back the deficit. Ending up with 5,500 it gave little time for any recovery and Mat managed to keep his lead after Pete missed an opportunity to narrow the gap.
Game 2 - Bob Chapple 13060 - Ricky Guilmotto 690 Baulkliners reserve Ricky was unfortunate to be drawn against a player on form who wasn't going to show any mercy to a player who has not played regular Bar Billiards for a number of years.
Game 3 - Terry Girard 320 Rodney Smith 8000 Rodders did not leave Terry a lot of table time with two huge breaks and suddenly the home teams 2-0 advantage looked less shocking.
Game 4 - Norman Wilkinson 0 Andrew Rundle 10510 Playing at a measured pace on his former home table, Andy stamped his authority on the evenings proceedings and achieved his first ever play out of a table, leaving his opponent without a chance of a reply. Now 2-2 with Trevor's break to come.
Game 5 - Paul Dyer 0 Trevor Gallienne 14620 It was a safe bet that Trevor was favourite and was odds-on to seal the win for his team and to match the performance he had just witnessed from his team mate. No surprises that he galloped away and eclipsed Andy's score, leaving Diddi firmly in his saddle for the whole match.
A great pity that Andrew and Trevor will not be with the Guernsey Team for the away International.

Breakaways go level with the fontaine team as they inflict a 3-2 defeat at the fontaine.
Its strange that all the talk is to re cover and sort out the Ex service club where from what i heard 2 play outs and 4 players scoring over 10k. Yet the so called good fonatine not 1 person topped 10k.
Game 1
Paul Mason gets his first win of the season against Pete Wilson. Pete was not very well and was unable to repeat his victory against this team from only 8 days 15 days earlier. It was comfortable win in the end although it took some 5 minutes before either player put a score on the board.
Game 2
Could Ian Champion avenge his only defeat of the season to the new and highly improved Matt Wilcox. Matt had the opening break but after leaving one ball very short on his opening break, this threw him a little and was unable to recover. Ian pounced with a good 2.5k break. Matt then rushed his chance and Ian knocked in a good 6k break and seal his revenge.
Game 3
Breakaways were now 2-0 down and were in danger of seeing the game disappear. But the ever reliable Roy Le page helped turn the corner and gave the breakaways their first point of the night. It was a bit nervy to start as Roy mucked up his opening break letting Little legs Davey his chance. Now, much improved and a real threat these days. Especially when sober. However on this occasion it wasn't enough.
Game 4
In typical fashion Geoff Ogier turns up late, no practice and wins again. Not the prettiest of games. The 2 left handers exchanged blows with Geoff edging further ahead with each visit as Gary Naftel fel into the Ogier Trap. As Geoff would score a few then leave the balls in very awkward positions. Gary would try and smash things up leaving Geoff to once again score a few.
Game 5
I was Left to the final game to try and put some pressure on me. with the scores level at 2-2 and some gentle banter from Champs and Gary could they put me off enough to claim victory through Dave De Jersey.
With a very below par 1200 break this did not help with the Nerves. Both player are renowned to get the jips and a sticky elbow when on the break. Who could control their nerves the most. With a small lead and time running out i used the normal tactics i have seen my opponants use against myself in recent weeks. I was as slow as Tom top speed. but not quite the cough delayed Girard that we had seen. However slow and precise enough to edge to victory.

Roy Le Page and Terry Kenny advance in the pairs beating Darren Ogier and Matt Wilcox.
Game 1
Terry kicks off with 6.5k only to peg. We were unable to capatalise and Roy and Terry edged the 1st game 2400 to 1100.
Game 2
I started ok but left and awkward ball and stopped on 1800. Roy then managed to peg back the score and they took a 500 lead. the game was very tight and when Terry left a ball right on the baulk line neither pairing wanted to move it and open up the game. Roy and terry ended up winning by 200 or so.
Game 3
Now 2-0 down could we get back into the game. Roy opened up with a very disappoint 1000 and gave us a chance. Between matt and i we managed to win by 4500. and take the a lead by aggregate but down in games.
Game 4
This was all about who could win. Matt kicked off with just over 4000, before a ball rested on the white peg. Matt was able to keep the score though and the come back was on.
The Match became very tense though as all the balls gravitated to the middle. However with a 3500 lead going into the last 5 mins Terry managed to regain the break and played the time out with 5k to progress.

The Guernsey league builds to an exciting finish with just four weeks of fixtures to go. Despite there being just five teams in the league this year, the race for the title is hotting up, and is being keenly contested. The lead for the title changed hands again last evening following one of the biggest shocks seen in recent years. On a high after beating league leaders Layabouts last week, the defending champions (Baulkliners) must have felt very confident with the opening breaks, away against the Fontaine team. But the Fontaine managed to pull off the seemingly impossible, winning the match 5-0 with the Baulkliners not winning a single point. Trevor Gallienne suffered his first defeat of the season losing to Paul Mason. Fontaine have now put themselves back in the running for a runners up spot and 'on paper' perhaps the title itself. Baulkliners still have a great say in the final outcome as they have four matches still to play. But this recent surprise defeat must have severely dented their title hopes. The other match played last evening resulted in a 4-1 win for Giants against Breakaways. This puts Giants up to top by two points. Roy Le Page (Breakaways) lost against Luke Oliver (Giants), and I can only assume Roy had a 'mishap' as he was ahead on points and breaking well when I left, and I see he ended up with 'zero points'.

Giants 0 Layabouts 5 - played at Fontaine 10th March 2015. Away team Layabouts had the breaks
Tom Oliver 1740 Terry Girard 3450 Jon van Katwyk 4060 Norman Wilkinson 5770 Luke Oliver 1070 Mat Ogier 5160 Terry Kenny 510 Paul Dyer 4870 Bob Le Moignan 1370 Bob Chapple 7140
Layabouts make a big statement, by making full use of the opening breaks and replacing Giants at the top of the league.
