congratulations to Ian and Curt in their finals yesterday. Another great weekend of billiards in Guernsey. Big thanks to Curt and Martin for the case and cue, Young Harry has been up practicing since 7.30 this morning and still going.
Hopeful he can eclipse his dad and go on to win a final one day.

Congrats to Ian Lelliott on winning this year's competition beating Chris Saville in the final Congratulations to Ian for winning the Guernsey Open, beating Chris in an interesting final. Both players had many chances but also struggled to cope with a very fast table which made it very different to many finals that we see in national competitions. Ian had beaten Terry Kenny in the semi-final and Kevin Tunstall in the quarter-final while Chris had beaten Nigel Senior and Colin Southouse at the same stages with Roy Le Page and Mat Ogier the other losing quarter-finalists. Nigel Senior made the highest break of the day (16,640) in a superb game against defending champion Bob Chapple who had made the second highest break of the day (15,880) in the same game. All of the results and scores for the competition are now on the Guernsey website - www.guernseybarbilliards.org.uk/open/2015/singles/mainCurt Driver won the Plate Competition in a very good final against Darren Ogier, Curt had opened with just under 10k and Darren then finished off the first game with 3k. Darren then opened with 2.5k, Curt replying with 3k and then Darren started the chase breaking down on around 5k when he just about had time to catch Curt leaving Curt to make sure of the match. Curt had beaten Tony Willis in the semi-final and Luke Oliver in the quarter-final while Darren had beaten Chris Oakley and Andy Rundle at the same stages with Stuart Penney and Tony Webster the other losing quarter-finalists. All of the scores and results for the Plate Competition are also on the Guernsey website - www.guernseybarbilliards.org.uk/open/2015/singles/plateCongratulations to Curt Driver and Gerry Fitzjohn for winning the Guernsey Pairs beating Derek Latham and Craig Carlson in a low scoring final. Curt & Gerry had beaten Mark Trafford & Chris Tupper in the semi-final and Colleen Park & Dave Ingram in the quarter-final while Derek & Craig had beaten Bob Chapple & Andy Rundle and Jean & Alan Brackenridge at the same stages with Trevor Gallienne & Barry Osborne and Paul Dyer and Mat Ogier the other losing quarter-finalists. All of the scores are on the Guernsey website - www.guernseybarbilliards.org.uk/open/2015/pairs/mainJames Jeanne & Sammi Baden won the Pairs Plate Competition beating Chrissie & Chris Newson in the final having defeated Tony Webster & Dave Rowley in the semi-final and Paul Mason & Davey Richardson in the quarter-finals while Chrissie & Chris had beaten Kevin Tunstall & Martin Cole and Roy Le Page & Terry Kenny at the same stages with Tom & Luke Oliver and Martin Friend & Allen Walker the other losing quarter-finalists. All the Pairs Plate results are on the Guernsey website - www.guernseybarbilliards.org.uk/open/2015/pairs/plateMany thanks to all involved in the running and organisation of the weekend, especially Luke Oliver who also got all the information on to the Guernsey website so quickly. As always the welcome from the Guernsey players was fantastic and it remains our favorite weekend of the year.

One final point that I would like to make to the GBBA Committee concerning the Les Rocquettes Hotel as a venue. The hotel is very nice, however there appears to be a perception held by many of the players that come over from the mainland that the hotel does not really want our business and that they simply see it as an opportunity to make money from the players that enter. I have heard that only 11 of the 72 players actually stayed at the venue this year, a clear statistic that would support this belief. I don't know if the hotel was full with other guests or if they had empty rooms? Although I understand that the Guernsey Open is held on a Bank Holiday weekend, surely they should be able to offer a better deal that would make the players want to stay there rather than going to other hotels around the island? I am sure that the hotel makes a lot of money from the drinks and food bought by the players over the course of the weekend.... but I am equally sure that they could have made more if players had been staying there rather than leaving earlier in the evenings to go back to their other hotels. It was great to see that the number of entries were up this year for the competition and hopefully that will continue in the future, although obviously the room where the competition is held is fairly restricted for space and viewing for spectators and players can be awkward on occasions, sadly as was clearly demonstrated at one time during the competition. We certainly intend on entering next year and would always prefer to stay at the actual venue.... but we won't pay through the nose for that when there are alternative hotels near that provide large savings for minimal inconvenience. These comments are NOT intended to be any criticism of GBBA and I hope that will be received as constructive comments that can be passed on to the management of Les Rocquettes to explain perhaps why so many players stayed elsewhere this time. I don't mind paying more if I believe that I am getting good value.... but 3 nights at Rocquettes would have cost us £348.00 this year and that seems poor value for money when compared to £280.00 for the 4 nights that we have just booked at the Merton in Jersey later this year.

Wholly agree with Dave in his post above. Except we had Bed, Breakfast and Evening meal at £296 for 4 nights for two at the Merton, through a really early booking.
Guernsey do a WOW job in running the comp thank you all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please, please, please let us know early the date and venue for next year, as deals come out all year.

Just to add Margo's and my thanks to the Guernsey organisers for yet another wonderful weekend of bar billiards. We've only missed one out of the eight staged so far and in that time have stayed at six different hotel with our repeat this year at the Hogue du Pommier being our only double up. Congratulations to Ian for his triumph and to Sav who rolled back the years to make it to a (Main) final of an Open. Also to all the other honours winners from the weekend, notably the Guernsey International team on their first-ever really convincing win over Jersey. * * all added to the Timeline:docs.google.com/document/d/1aufdTzNPNh2XQK4ddWBDw8SlD3g2Ind6vKS7oZHGo7s/pubThe only downer for us was that the weather was dull for once but that's only a minor consideration. This was going to be our last trip, but the impression I get now is that Margo will be up for it again next year.

Had a long talk with Ian after the match and we are both very complimentary about the weekend as a whole and the efforts of the Guernsey committee. I post this as Ian is not a computer user. The only real problem was the heat in the venue.
Pleased with my own form but did not get going in the final until it was almost too late and missed a pressure recovery shot chasing the clock when within 2k. To beat both Nige and Traffs was especially pleasing.
A great weekend with the warmest welcome going in Bar Billiards!
Thanks to all.
Sav

I have frozen this thread pending moderation. This is not the place for such discussions as it is a matter for the AEBBA it appears.

I have deleted four posts and the causative paragraph as the matter is now in the hands of the AEBBA.
Please continue to make suitable comments about the Guernsey Open if you wish to do so.
thank you Tony

Had a great time in Guernsey and managed to see some of the island as well this year (after being ill last year).
Always a friendly welcome from the Guernsey lads.
From a personal point of view there was a couple of hiccups, but that said a great weekend I was really pleased to win the ladies high break in my first game against Ben as I had a bit of a nightmare in the doubles the day before (thank god I had a partner) Thought I would mention this as Mr. I's lovely detailed report .................. Bacardi time coming on
Definitely my favourite open of the year

Pairs runners-up Craig Carlson and Derek Latham.
Sorry but was not back from the bar when the pairs winners were presented and didn't think to take one in the hail of alcohol that followed.
