We are looking for some feedback regarding our Open.
We are thinking of changing the venue to one of our more local community centres (Cressex Community Club). We have never held it there before, but it offers:-
1. A lot bigger venue, so possibly could have more tables (depending on entries) to make the day shorter. 2. Beer/alcohol is considerably cheaper as it is a club, which will appeal to some I am sure. 3. Not quite as far for some to travel as it is only about 2 miles from the town centre. 4. A wider variety of food, and at a much more reasonable price (roast dinner approx £5).
Would some of you not enter because it's not at the Golf Club, or would more enter because the venue is much bigger? Does it make a difference where it's held, because it's really about the Bar Billiards?
Your comments would be appreciated before we make our final decision.
Thanks, Dawn.

I would be very surprised if anyone did not enter because it was not at the Golf Club. Although the venue was very pleasant it was a bit cramped.
First consideration to you is the cost implication of hall hire.

Dawn,
I would alway support the Bucks Open wherever it is held.
I always thought the Golf Club too cramped as a venue, and of course in the summer it can get hot in the small room, even though it is a nice setting.
So as Sav says I would be surprised if entries would drop because of moving it away from the golf club.

I would seriously consider the new option if there is more room. Cheaper drink and food a bonus. As long as you don't have to pay a bigger hall hire.

I don't enter many Opens but always enter the Bucks (probably) because of the very pleasant venue. Spending the day in a 1960s community centre is no comparison....it's not ALL about the bar billiards Dawn! Is it the old Searle Club? I seem to remember that was on the Cressex estate somewhere. Tony

Have you checked with the cressex club Dawn?, I know we looked into having it there some years ago and there was some worry over the spring in the flooring.

Thanks for all your feedback - really helpful.
Tony - no its not the old Searle Club. That used to be on the Sands Industrial Estate about a mile down the road - I used to love that place - where I first met Ernie all those years ago!!
Merv - have been to the club twice now to check it out, but will double check with them about the floor. Would like it if you didn't mention to the golf club about the possible change of venue as no decisions have been made yet :)

It's really about the Bar Billiards and the people. I agree with Sav that the golf club was pleasant, but cramped - it was difficult to watch matches and there was nowhere to put a drink while playing. The proposed new venue is not only further South by 7.5 miles, but it is closer to the M40. This would be a bonus for those of us making the long trip from Sussex. A few extra miles probably wouldn't worry anyone making the shorter trip from Oxford, who would also have a more straightforward journey if using the motorway. The possibilty of more tables to make a shorter day and less hanging around can only be good.

As there are still some people that want to enter, but can't get entry forms off (holidays etc.) we are going to extend the closing date to Friday 24th July. The draw will be done on Tuesday 28th July and sent to Nigel, who is kindly going to sort the tables/times for me.

In advance thanks too Dawn and her helpers for organising this Open, hope the new venue works, I liked the Golf Club for its surroundings, but the room is very limited for viewing, well done Dawn.

Phil McFarland has had to pull out tomorrow. I have no reserves, so just in case, is there anyone else who would like to enter?
Dawn :)
