As far as this is concerned....... the main thing that I remember is missing the one up after the bar had dropped when just a couple of hundred behind Martin Cole and then watching him play the split and get rid of the red ball. The whippy right hand 50 pocket then came to my rescue as he missed his next shot leaving me 500 down with 4 white balls remaining with 2 of them fairly near that hole. At that stage I thought that it was game over and I had lost.... .... but I then remembered SirKT pulling out a fantastic victory in the county championships a few years ago by potting balls off the side cushion into the 200 hole to beat Pete Sainsbury so I had another look at where the balls were on the table. I managed to flick the ball nearest the 50 hole into the pocket and took the cue ball off the back cushion into the 100 hole. That just meant that I had to get the last 2 into the 200 hole to win.... After moving a bit of furniture around to look at the angles, I decided that if I tried to go off the side cushion and pot the object ball into the 200 hole there was a good chance that the cue ball would go into the 50 hole so the only option was off the side cushion and go in-off with the cue ball.... somehow that worked although I would probably miss it 99 times out of 100 if I tried to repeat it! The last ball nearly missed the 200 hole, just catching the back edge of the pocket and dropping in to give me the win.... Martin & I have always had some very close games and I will certainly remember this one for a long time. Fantastic finish Dave - well done!
