Could we possibly have a pinned post showing the dates of the Opens etc I am trying to find an open that I can attend and to see them all in chronological order would be most helpful. (I had almost decided to do Oxford... but it was moved to a date I cant do)

Hi Tommo
Think you may want to change the dates. The 10th May is the National Mixed Pairs in Surrey. The Ladies BIOC has not got a date or venue at the moment so looks as if it could be one of those events that gets lost off the calendar

Thanks Jean,
I have some work to do on it to add the AEBBA events recently notified by Chrissie, so will make the adjustments.
All the more reason we need a ready reckoner / maintained calendar on here !

So, from Chrissie's post it may be concluded that the AEBBA have shuffled the pack slightly, thus: 1. BIOC Ladies.........last year held at Surrey in May, this year being run by Sussex (venue and date to be confirmed). Now arranged for Sunday 26th July at Hurstpierpoint Club.2. AEBBA Mixed Pairs...last year held at Didcot in Oct, this year being run by Surrey (at Salfords Club) on 10th May. 3. National Off-the-Spot Open...last year staged by Kent in July, this year being run by Surrey (venue t.b.a.) on 25th Oct. Venue now confirmed as Salfords Club4. A massive day of bar billiards on 22nd Nov at Didcot: Both Grand Prix - plus both 'Old Gits' - plus the 'young whippersnappers'. NB. Over50's may be brought forward to 25th or 26th July in Sussex (ref. Chrissie Newson)Everything else as/was. [edit] amendments in accordance with changing situation. [further edits 15/2/2015][edit] further edit about over50's 17/6/15[/font]

Dave Ingram is quite right he will be organising the BIOC Ladies.
I did not post until I heard he would kindly run this event in Sussex which Dave Alder had asked for as Secretary. He was in Jersey when I asked on behalf of Dave Alder and he got back to us as soon as he could.
Dave Alder will be liasing here with Dave Ingram.
Dave Ingram will then post a date when he is able and I leave that to him.
Thanks Chris

I used to take it upon myself to maintain the calendar before we changed systems, but, since I stopped, 2014 nearly went past without a single entry. So much trouble could be avoided if people developed the habit of checking and updating the calendar when booking their tables for events. Now that we now how simple it is to maintain the calendar which is there for our assistance - let's use it ! I see that Barbelman has taken the trouble to put all these up on the official Forum Calendar .......Many thanks, brilliant work Tony.

Can this thread be made a 'sticky' please ?
Also, can the title also be modified to include "and AEBBA events" ? - or a separate thread made listing these and also "stickied" ?
Apart from the Kent Classic, there are no events for July showing on the bespoke Forum Calendar. And we have lost the AEBBA website for the present.
I remember reading somewhere that the BIOC Ladies is to be staged in Sussex in July, along with the National Over-50s in the same weekend:
Should we not be thinking about publicising these events NOW - and compiling an entry list ? Or, better, putting an entry form up somewhere ?

Or, better, putting an entry form up somewhere ? I think that we are in danger of duplicating things unless we are careful here, which could mean that people end up not knowing where to look. All the information for the BIOC Ladies is already on a thread in the AEBBA Competitions.... including the date, venue, entry form and a list of the players that have entered the competition so far.

Thanks, Ian. These are the two events which I'm referring to: Maybe the plan has changed, but we ought to be told. I'm not sure why Tommo seems confused about this? The BIOC Ladies was confirmed as being held on Sunday 26th July at Hurst Club 4 months ago and is on the correct thread for AEBBA Competitions.... the AEBBA Over 50's date was also confirmed at the start of February as being held on 22nd November at Didcot Conservative Club.... so, nothing has changed and there is therefore no need for anybody to be told differently. IMHO this thread is simply complicating the whole thing by having yet another place for players to look and showing (apparently) conflicting information.

Firstly, I agree wholeheartedly that there is a duplication of threads on national competitions and it was a constant battle for me whilst a mod to try and keep them tidy. Also, I am always banging on about the calendar not being maintained, this is still not being done despite repeated requests by Tony (Barbelman) for people organising stuff to also put them on the calendar. If I have to hunt around for stuff I'm sure that others do also ! I accept that the loss of the AEBBA website (hopefully temporary) has not helped matters. Bernie (Q) asked for one thread where everything could be seen together, which seemed a reasonable request, hence this thread. My own interest stems from trying to keep up-to-date information on websites for the three leagues 'north of the Downs' in Sussex. So as people who don't use the Forum can see and decide if they want to take part. I myself might well take part in the National Off-the-Spot which hopefully will receive full publicity well in advance of October. Thanks for clarifying what will now take place on the weekend of 25/26 July - I will amend my sites accordingly. I see that you have jettisoned the idea of holding the Over-50s: Dear Ladies The BIOC Ladies will be held at the Hurst Club on the 26th July 2015. We desperately need to know possible entries so we can determine whether the over 50's is played on the same day or the day before. Chris x - too unpopular a change no doubt - and replaced it with a new Sussex Off-the-Spot. Great idea.

Could we possibly have a pinned post showing the dates of the Opens etc PLEASE could everyone enter events onto the calendar when they initially post them? WE would then have a reliable list for everyone to refer to. Tony Once again we are faced with the same old problem of not knowing which thread is best to visit for our calendar information. At the moment we can find all the 2016 dates by visiting "National Table Bookings" in the AEBBA section (thanks to BBW), but this is not the obvious place for the casual enquirer to look, and nothing has been entered for 2016 on the ready-to-view Forum calendar - apart from the East Anglian 4-Pin - until August (Bucks Open). On the one hand, all the information is there if you know where to look but running duplicate threads can lead to problems. On the other hand, the calendar maintenance aspect is easy to overlook and seems a bit of a palaver to transact. Therefore, can we have a universal 'stickied' thread as last year ? Sav announced earlier we will eventually go on to Version 6 of ProBoards. Hopefully the calendar maintenance will not be an 'over-fussy' operation. On Version 4 I seem to recall that there was a line at the foot of the menu page which listed "events coming up this month". This acted as a useful prompt for moderators such as myself (at the time) to put the dates up so that the events appeared........... I reckon we need something like that again. tommo

I'll have a look at the calendar plug-ins as there is one that restores some of the previous version functionality of events without a corresponding thread.
Regarding updating the calendar then I'm afraid if the organisers can't be bothered to put their own events on it why should the mods be lumbered? It's only a question of adding an event and allowing the calendar to create a thread in the designated 'events for calendar' board.
