Well said, Sav, and I agree with the sentiment of your second paragraph.
Last year though we had a special sticky which seemed to appear at the top of all associated threads somehow.
Also, the facility we had before of "events coming up this month" at the foot of the welcome screen was better than the current "view today's birthdays" which no-one bothers with these days.

Don't ask me why but I have a nightmare putting things on the Calendar which is why I gave up!
I just tried to put the Sussex Open on there for the 12th June. When I looked on the calendar it was under Saturday 11th June. Thinking it was me I went to edit it but the to and from date were both showing the 12th.
Everytime I try and use the calendar to add an event something goes wrong!

It is not you Jean, it's the software !
I used to take on myself to put all the dates up, but stopped doing it a couple of years ago when made to look silly as all the Saturday's I'd put up suddenly displayed as Sundays and all the Sundays as Mondays !

Everytime I try and use the calendar to add an event something goes wrong! I have had the same experience as Jean in the past which is why I don't bother to use the calendar any more. There are normally threads started in advance for most competitions and I feel that, in conjunction with the list of dates in the National Tables section, is probably sufficient to enable most people to find out about competitions and dates.

Dave Lillie asked me to add the East Anglian Open as he was worried he'd cock it up. I've never used it before and did not find a problem.
I'll have a look at the plug-in I've found later, but have a bar billiard table leg to replace the screw thread in first!

I feel that, in conjunction with the list of dates in the National Tables section, is probably sufficient to enable most people to find out about competitions and dates. I beg to disagree It's not immediately obvious to the casual viewer where to find the information. Having it under 'Opens' would appear more logical than under the thread 'National Tables'. At the very minimum the thread should be cross-referenced. The sticky we had last year did the job. Having it in the obvious place would settle the matter AFAIC.

I just tried to do it but I could not without creating a thread on the Sussex Board which I now cannot delete.
Is there an idiots guide here???
Thanks Chris

New Version with go-faster stripes installed, you no longer need a thread.
Just click on Calendar and the new Event tab on the right.
This AUTOMATICALLY adds events to the newsreel if within a month
DO NOT enter recurring events for now.
Comments please, look at March 18th, just added.
This should flag up forthcoming dates but may need tuning.

Thx Clive,
Fixed my table leg with a new thread post as well so a productive evening!
There is a limit on the number of events the calendar bolt-on can hold (currently 40% full) so I will need to set up a purge of events as they expire (may be possible to pay for additional storage if someone wants to pay!)

I have now amended my original list and included all known dates and I have highighted the County Opens and AEBBA Competitions to make them easier to identify. A number of players have told me they find it very useful to have a full list of local and national competitions in one place so please can we leave the list here in full? Thanks, Dave To whom it may concern:
For a list of all the dates for Opens and National Competitions for 2016 you can visit the following sticky thread:
