I for one had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.
Firstly, a big thanks to Chris and Chris for all their hard work in organising the whole thing!
Thank you to all the staff at the Queens for looking after us so well.
A big well done to Colleen on doing so brilliantly with the raffle.
Thank you to everyone else who was involved in any way and helped out, but a special mention to Dave Ingram for stepping in at short notice to run the desk and for such a fantastic job in keeping everything up to date as we went along (most notably, the Jersey-esque live updates on the forum).
Finally a big congratulations to Leon and Phil who were on fire from start to finish, and to Colin and Phil for their brilliant plate win!

I echo henry and chrises comments, a handful of heros made the whole event enjoyable, speaking as a first timer who had never entered due to disagreeing with the must be resident policy. I have to advise everyone yet to have a go, that I found the weekend package at the queens second to none. I strongly recommend that others shouldgive it a try next time, there was a quiz on night 1 and horse racing on night 2 laid on by the hotel, which is also a spa so there was a pool , jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and other treatments available which were sampled by the missus while I was "wasting time" playing bbs. There's also lots on in town if you fancied an alternative option in the evening. So all in all very satisfied and am looking forward to next year already. PS had plenty of practice on savs dover and deal top in reception, before and after chocies cue tip replacement post 1st game. Didn't stop me leaving it behind , thanks to bbw for looking after it untill we rondez vous at the fish tomorrow Regs cs

Congratulations top the winners and well done Dave and Colleen stepping in at the hour of need and running a very good and smooth weekend, the hotel once again excellent. Thanks to those unsung heroes who transported the tables set them up and prepared everything for the weekend and to those who spend a lot of time organising the whole package.

The weekend went well and I hope all enjoyed themselves. There were a couple of problems over rooming requirements which showed improved entry forms will be needed next year. Unfortunately the resulting room swaps the hotel made were not as directed by me and resulted in knock-on problems for which I apologise. The hotel is looking much better as they work through a major refurbishment and the staff were excellent.
Tables played well after a very long setting up process. Thanks to Dennis Atkins and Mike Callanan in particular and the others who helped. Table seven (AEBBA 2) was difficult, as always, on Saturday but I managed to draw its teeth by lifting the front right corner and there were big breaks including a 20k on Sunday on it. The problem lies in a convex slate at the front right and I will ask Dave Alder not to use this as one of the front eight. Four tables have cloth damage through what appear to be coin toss nicks, all in the front left quadrant of the table. Please make sure coins are not tossed onto the playing surface. Thanks to those who helped take them down this year.
Obviously thanks are due to Dave and Colleen for stepping in after Dave Alder's boss was taken ill.
The schedule was rewritten by me to remove the problem that always occurs in the plate when players qualify for the plate in the second round after an unexpected bye and find themselves on the same table. It also allowed table allocations up to and including the quarter finals, a round further than normal. Two extra rounds were needed with the additional entries and there was AEBBA discussion over Nigel's decision to play one on Saturday and one (last 16) on Sunday. That will be discussed more before next year.
Practice table was well used with 77 games on it. We will look at the same next year.
Van drives well though it must be carpeted to prevent damage to the tables. Problems that need to be dealt with include windscreen wiper blades, rear door lock and broken passenger mirror.
A couple of non residents who made last minute bookings elsewhere in the final few days, as we could not accommodate them, were allowed to substitute for missing players by the AEBBA committee. Rooms were still available when entries closed so no players who wished to stay at the hotel were turned away during the registration period. This was an emergency decision made within the framework of the rules so that others' weekends were not spoiled by not having opponents or partners. The same will apply next year in that residency will be compulsory whilst accommodation is available at the hotel, If the hotel is full before the closing date then residency elsewhere will be allowed. Our first responsibility must be to support the hotel that provides the sponsorship.
The good news is that the hotel have agreed on a price freeze for a third year, so get your bookings in early next year as we expect to be close on full.
Thank you to all who made it such a tremendous weekend.
Chris Saville.

Confused?! When did this rule get changed? I was under the impression that the rule that got passed at the AE AGM was that you could only play in the competition if you stayed at the Queens hotel? If this rule has been changed, could someone like to enlighten me as to when as i was at both AGM's and never heard of this stipulation being in place? If i would have known about this, then i may have entered the competition, along with some other people.....

Hi Mark, Here is the full wording of the rule that covers this:- 18) Playing in the National Pairs (currently in Bournemouth) will be conditional upon residency at the hotel where the competition is being held, provided that rooms are available. Compulsory residency to commence from 2015. The 3 players that were allowed to take the place of the people that had dropped out in the last few days were either already staying at Queens Hotel or had tried to book via AEBBA (after the closing date) when there were no available rooms left at the hotel. As the rule clearly covers this possibility, after a brief discussion, the AEBBA Committee agreed that they should be allowed to play in the competition.
