Please come along and support the League on our finals night there will be some competitive Finals and the standard of play on Sunday at the Masters was excellent. Please remember we need Raffle prizes as this helps with the costs of running the evening. See you there. Ian.

Well, that was all good: team plate final won 3-2 (just), ladies highest score and best table. Venue excellent as usual, lots of catering including the all-important BB.

To add my thanks to all who helped to make it such a memorable night, most have been listed by Stuart who I would also like to include for his very competent first year in the Competition Secretary's job ! The number of high breaks made on the night must constitute the highest standard for us in living memory, with Lloydy, Ricky, Foxy and Jock almost literally scorching the cloth ! So well done to Graham for his diligent and excellent table preparation to make this possible. The whole thing went swimmingly - and in front of some illustrious company (World Champ Dave, Colleen, Guernsey Open Champ Ian, Sir KT and Hayley coming up from the coast - 6 Word Tiles between them ( =in joke)). And we were all homeward bound before midnight. Thanks to Ian Giffen for his tireless organisation, to Hoppo for coming forward to help Margo with the Raffle, which raised £140 and to Kingy for the boring but important job on the door. I would also like to mention the generosity of those who donated prizes for the raffle and the four kind table sponsors who came forward (Jim Greensted, John Miller, Barry of the Stout House and Terry on behalf of Roffey Club) A special well done to Mick and Ding for landing our Mixed Doubles in the same year that they were runners-up in Billingshurst. And to Sam Short who was one last ball shot away from doing the same in the Ladies Singles. The night however belonged to Ricky in capturing the Mens Singles title to add to the Special Performance award - was there ever a prouder dad ?

Some extra stats for you ...
It was Roffey Y's 8th Championship title (including under their previous guise as the YMCA). This beats Five Oaks A's record which stood for 40 years. It is also the 8th time they've lifted the Team Cup (Five Oaks A won it 5 times).
Mick Fairs won the Div.1 Best Performance Cup for the 5th time, equalling the achievement of Peter Gibbs, Gareth Lloyd and Tony Franks.
Gareth Lloyd won his 4th Masters (surprisingly his first since 1997/98, almost a 20 year gap) and needs one more to equal John Slee.
Ricky Dewdney won his 2nd Mens Singles (the first being in 2006/07) thus matching his dad: but it took him 9 years to do it ! Lloyd and Slee jointly hold this record, with 5 wins each.
Lorraine Hall won her 6th Horsham Ladies Singles title, equalling the late Sue Loughran.
Mick and Ding Johnson won their 4th Mixed Doubles. Lorraine has won this event 5 times, twice with son Kevin and three times with Silver Fox. But there are still a few years to go before they can match Tony and Pip Franks's 7 titles.

A great Finals Night with some very high standard of play, we had a good turnout and went pretty much to schedule. Congratulations to the winners & Runners up.
We have some new names on the trophies which is good & some thrilling Finals especially the Men's & Ladies Singles. I want to add my thanks to all involved in organising both events which bring our season to an end and to BBW ( WC ) for kindly presenting the Trophies. Stuart has done a great job in his first year as comp sec. It's good to read Tommo's summary reminding us of the talent we have in our League.

Dick the Dude has sent me through a cluster of photos taken from Finals Night, which will shortly be appearing on the Horsham website. Meanwhile, here are the Mens Champion (Sec Ian G is on left), Ladies Champion and a rather doleful looking Masters Champion (yes Gareth, scoring 33k in two games does make you a worthy winner !

More you say ? Okay, go on then, here's three more but for the rest you'll have to visit the website ! Here we have Lower Div Singles winner Stu Carruthers, Mens Pairs Champions Jock and Andy, and the prolific Silver Fox (Singles R/U, Seniors Champ, Mens Pairs R-u and winner of a League and Cup Double). Did the Fox remember to bring a Box ? LOL
