Congratulations to Steven Sheard for winning the Kent Classic yesterday in a very good final against Nigel Senior. Many thanks to all involved in organising and running another very enjoyable day, especially Pete Sainsbury who did a great job on the admin desk, Paul Sainsbury, Bryan Stevens and Richard Corbould who gave us some nice tables to play on and Colin Robbins (and Jackie) who kept us all well fed.

am awaiting with interest silents report on his opening match yesterday Not sure we do reports on individual matches at opens and I don't plan to start now, obviously very pleased to beat Dave in our match....but I didn't win another match after that and he didn't lose one Well done to Steven on winning the competition, he certainly looked back to his best making a 10k break in the final. This after Nigel had gone into the second leg with a 12k lead, Steve missed on 4k with his first break and Nigel was unable to get the break back despite managing to move a couple of awkward balls, Steven did and then knocked in his match winning break (there you had a match report but of the final) Well done to Dave on winning the plate and thanks to all those who made the open possible, especially Pete and everyone who is involved in the unenviable task of table lifting and moving

I would like to add my congratulations to Steven for winning yesterday.
I had a good lead going into leg 2 and had a chance when Steven broke down on 4k but couldnt get the balls back and Steven held his nerve well to make a winning break.
Having watched Steven in Bournemouth struggling with his one up, I thought then he would be hard pushed to get to latter stages in any tournament let alone winning one - how wrong was I!
As anyone who plays the game knows once you lose confidence in the one up it really destroys your game, so to come back from that and to play to the level that Steven did yesterday is a remarkable acheivement.
A big thanks to Pete and helpers for another great Kent Classic.

Just like to add my thanks to Pete and all the other helpers for laying on the whole weekend. Some testing tops, but still a great fun. Can't understand why more entries aren't forthcoming. Another great open, well done Steven and bad luck Nigel. It's good to know Steven is back on form!!!!!!! Well done to Dave for the plate win & bad luck Rick. It's never an easy one to win and to have the World Champion stay and recognise the importance of plate events is to be appreciated. A final well done to the Surrey boys (2 semi-finalists), lets hope we can drag more along to future events. I would also like to see silent's match report. I was unlucky to only catch the tale end of the epic comeback. Thanks again.

Well done Son on a tremendous achievement to win your 2nd Kent Open. As has been said above, it's great to see you playing so well after all your one up troubles and I know all about that after my first one up of the day!
Great day, although it was extremely hot inside the venue.

am awaiting with interest silents report on his opening match yesterday I find it that some people seem only to want to use this forum as a way to have a dig at other people. No thanks offered to the organisers.... no congratulations offered to the winners.... just a veiled comment to try to provoke a response about a match that was played in the first round. Perhaps it was intended as "humour", or maybe there was another intention behind it. Strangely, some people seem to enjoy doing things like this.... while they are always among the first to leave once they have lost and they never seem to be the ones that are left behind to help take the tables down and clear away at the end of a competition.... they are happy to leave that to the people who actually do all the work behind the scenes. My thanks certainly goes to those people that do that, I know from my own experience how hard that can be although my "enthusiasm" to continue to do that in the future diminishes considerably when I read posts like this one. My thanks also to Silent for his very dignified response and to getting his priorities right in his report on the day. PS. If anybody really does want a report on the match in question, please feel free to PM me and I will give you all the details of what happened which I am sure will make you ....

I must admit to being rather shocked at the relative lack of feedback and gratitude following the recent Sussex Open (for what was a great day). Hopefully Pete et al feel they have received their fair share of appreciation for this one.

Cmon BBW it was a joke not a dig, sadly you've taken it the wrong way and again I will apologise for it, I will always applaud all those that take the time and trouble to run competitions, but if you're having a dig back at me, I'm quite happy with how I support the opens and don't need to justify myself to you or anyone else.

Ah, it was a "joke".... of course. I am glad that you included the comment that "again I will apologise for it" as it is certainly not the first time that you have enjoyed a "joke" about something like this which is why I decided to reply on this occasion. I am also glad that you always applaud the people that run the competitions (although it seemed to be missing on this occasion) and assume that when you say that you "support the opens" you must be referring to the fact that you play in them regularly (which of course is a good thing) as I haven't noticed you helping to take tables down and pack away at the end of an event.... I remember that you DID make a point of thanking the organisers after the Sussex Open.... Never hurts to reinforce our thanks to those who always put themselves forward to run these events, from the delivery lads to the wives and husbands who become bar billiards widows throughout the year. We should all offer our help a bit more to ease the load from the shoulders of our illustrious few who hold BB leagues together all over the country. .... and I look forward to you putting into practice your offer of help to ease the load on those that organise and run the Sussex Competitions (Individual Comps, Inter League One Day Comps and Sussex Open) next year. Actions always speak louder than words to me....

I know that this once again has strayed but would like to point out that Colin is Vice Chairman of the Sussex County Bar Billiards Association, and would not have been elected thus without having proven past service and support. As such he is deserving of respect.

I know that this once again has strayed but would like to point out that Colin is Vice Chairman of the Sussex County Bar Billiards Association, and would not have been elected thus without having proven past service and support. As such he is deserving of respect. A few years ago, when I was appointed Vice Chairman of SCBBA, the first thing that I decided to do was to offer more assistance to the people that run the competitions in Sussex. Six years later, this is a role that I still carry out as I run the Admin Desk for the Sussex Competitions weekend and two of the One Day Inter League Competitions. This also involves helping to set up (and take down) the tables for those events and also for the Sussex Masters / Open weekend so I am perhaps more aware of who does (and who does not) also give up their time to do these than you are Tommo.... it will be interesting to see who takes on those roles next year?? I would certainly like to thank all those that have been involved with those events in the past, many of them do hold positions within SCBBA while there are some "unsung heroes" (Alan Brackenridge, Stuart Carruthers, Matthew Knight, Rob Hall and Colleen Park among others) who have also given up their time to help. Hopefully more "heroes" will come forward in years to come and they will also then deserve respect.... Apologies to Pete for taking this thread so far off topic.... the Kent Open organisers certainly deserve thanks and respect for the hard work that they put in every year to their events.

Actions always speak louder than words to me.... I'm not too sure as to why you feel the need to make the above comments, but will respond as follows:- para 1 I enjoy a lot of jokes on here and will continue to do so Para 2 I support the opens not by playing but by scoring, if all who played scored 1 game and stayed all day then that's all the scoring taken care of, but this is not the case, (a)some cant afford to spend the whole day at a venue buying drinks and food as well as travelling costs, (b)some have wives or girlfiends (or both) to consider particularly when they are playing in multiple leagues as well, (c) some have bad backs and (d)some are pinching time where they should be doing other things as well, or (e) cant score or(f)just don't want to help. It's their choice and right to contribute or not. So getting back to my point, i tend to score a lot of games, sometimes to the detriment of my own game as i'm sometimes unable to check out the table that i might be playing on due to scoring duties. I won't be staying after i have been knocked out of the plate or the main comp for reasons b, c and d above. Though just out of interest, the last time i did help lift the tables into the Van was at the Limes end of June 2015! Para 3 I have offered to help 3 people this year in Sussex, YOU in Oct 2014, Jean at the last AGM and Nigel more recently, as yet no one has requested assistance. My offers of assistance remain in place whether i get re-elected as vice chairman or not. Para 4 A bit premature i think here. I'm sure that when all this unnecessary posturing is finished and forgotten we can get back to us both progressing the bar billiards cause, after all that's what i'm sure we both want in the long run, even if we don't always get it right all the time.

I think we have had enough of the mutual admiration society now please. If you have any more to say then please do it via PM and not on a thread dedicated to another county's event.
